A fireside chat with Dianora and Nydiam
From FiranMUX
Anarinuell: The Diplomat Inn, Palace District
Dianora walks in from the Market Place, the door closing silently behind
her.
Dianora has arrived.
Dianora skitters in, shivering.
Nydiam shoots a glance to the door.
Nydiam's eyes go slight at the sight of Dianora.
Dianora stands a moment, dropping the hood of her byrrus onto her shoulders s she looks around the room for a free table, smiling to herself.
Nydiam is seated at a table with a glass of wine in hand.
Dianora finally spots a table and makes her way over to it, walking past he few people still at the inn at this hour.
Dianora looks at her menu.
Dianora wrinkles her nose as she looks over the menu, murmuring, "So pricey.. still." A young waiter brings Dianora her red wine.
A young waiter takes Nydiam's order.
A handsome waiter brings Nydiam his raspberry wine.
You pick up the raspberry wine.
Dianora notices the movement of the waiter and smiles to herself as she sees the patron's order. red wine has left.
Nydiam watches Dianora and then swirls the raspberry wine in his glass.
Dianora laughs suddenly, and raises her glass. "It appears we have similiar ideas on this cold night, doesn't it?"
Nydiam smirks slightly and raises his glass. He pauses as if to say something, and then motions to Oktar.
A young waiter takes Nydiam's order.
A young waiter brings Nydiam his raspberry wine.
You pick up the raspberry wine.
Dianora drinks 1 red wine.
Nydiam stands from his table and saunters over to Dianora's, "I think that this will please your senses more than the house red, for this blustery winter night."
Dianora's eyes twinkle, but she doesn't pursue things, instead watching with some amusement.
Dianora says, "Ah, that is too generous of you. I must decline." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam stands before Dianora's table. He looks down to the floor then back up to her, "Nonsense. You must accept. I am not quite sure what to do with two glasses..." He smirks.
Dianora laughs then, a soft musical laugh. "That is a difficult dilemma to solve, indeed! So perhaps I should help you after all. Please sit."
Nydiam inclines his head, "My saviour!" He says grandly. He places both glasses of raspberry wine on the table and slips into a chair deftly.
Nydiam introduces himself, "I am Lord Nydiam of the Eagle Clan." and hands over the glass to Dianora.
Dianora giggles, watching you. "A pleasure, I'm sure. I am Dianora."
Dianora takes the glass, a thoughtful look on her face.
Nydiam says, "A pleasure, indeed." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora raises her glass in a toast. "To warmth on a cold night, and generous folk." She smiles, taking a sip.
Nydiam raises his glass likewise, "To warmth..." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora runs a fingertip idly along the rim of the glass. "What brings you here at this hour, Lord Nydiam?" {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam takes a long sip, "Tell me, what brings you out on a night like this?" and gestures to the door with a hand.
Dianora wrinkles her nose. "Sustenance. I have yet to find myself a place of my own, and must depend on the market place.. or inns, and taverns. The marketplace is nearly empty, and this was closest." {Firan}
Nydiam blinks a moment and then laughs lightly, "I guess we had similar questions on our minds...Me? I always enjoy the comfort of a warm fire and pleasant company to pass the night away." and pauses for a sip, "What type of home do you seek?" {Excellent Firan}
Dianora laughs, also. "Like minds, yet so different, I suspect.. simply a humble room. My needs are small at the present." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam inclines his head, "That really is not too much to ask. What is your profession, Dianora?" He smiles. {Excellent Firan}
Dianora shakes her head before she takes another sip. "I have been fortunate to find work with Mes Karison, doing tailoring." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam gestures to Dianora's stola, "I was taking note of the tasteful stola that you are wearing. Mes Karison is an excellent tailor. You will do well by her. That you will." and indicates his own clothing, "These are her beautiful creations, as the fact of the matter would have it." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora smiles, her eyes studying the embroidery. "I had wondered.. she does have quite the talent with a needle. I'm curious, though.. why sharks?" {Firan}
Nydiam says, "Ah, yes, the sharks. They are in remembrance of my father, Zarid. Perhaps you have heard of him..." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam smirks.
Dianora looks surprised. "I have heard tales, yes. Some say he is the son of Zin." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam says, "Well, I am not sure that I would go that far..." {Firan}
Nydiam chuckles, "Though, I have heard some stories..." {Firan}
Dianora laughs, settling back in her chair. "If you have the time, then this would be a good night for stories, yes?" {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam says, "Aye, it is...Any particular flavor, Dianora?" {Excellent Firan}
Dianora's eyes twinkle as she steeples her fingers. "Oh, let's see.. plain? Perhaps too dull for such company. Rich? That might actually make one ill. How about.. simply filling?"
Nydiam smirks and finishes glass of wine.
Nydiam says, "A simply filling story, yes..." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam laughs lightly.
Dianora smiles, studying you as she waits.
Nydiam thinks a moment while recalling, "Hmm..."
Nydiam starts reciting, "When the winter winds are piercing chill, %r Anthrough the hawthorn blows the gales, %r With solemn feet I tread the hill, %r That overbrows the lonely vale." {Firan} Dianora listens quietly, her eyes on your face.
Nydiam says, "O'er the bare upland, and away through the long reach of desert woods, the embracing sunbeams chastely play, and gladden these deep solitudes." {Firan}
Nydiam smiles and focuses on a distant spot on the wall.
Nydiam says, "Where, twisted round the barren oak, the summer wine in beauty clung, and summer winds the stillness broke, the crystal icicle is hung." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora searches your face, as if looking for something.
Nydiam lifts his voice in bravado, "Where, from their frozen urns, mute springs pour out the river's gradual tide, shrilly the soldier's armor rings, and voices fill the woodland side." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam says, "Alas! how changed from the fair scene, when birds sang out their mellow lay, and winds were soft, and woods were green, and the song ceased not with the day." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora frowns slightly to herself, but remains quiet, listening.
Nydiam dramatically pauses, "But still wild music is abroad, Pale, desert woods! within your crowd; and gathering winds, in hoarse accord, amind the vocal reeds pipe loud." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam closes with, "Chill airs and wintry winds! my ear has grown familiar with your song; I hear it in the opening year,-- I listen, and it cheers me along." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora regards you thoughtfully. "An excellent song.. but it makes me wonder." {Firan}
Nydiam looks back to Dianora curiously.
Nydiam says, "What does it make you wonder, my dear?" {Excellent Firan}
Dianora says, "It makes me wonder.. do you prefer the solitude of the wilds, then?" {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam shrugs, "Not particularly, but the frosty solitude seemed suitable this evening...that is until, I found suitable company to share such a story and a fire-side over a glass of wine. Speaking of which, would you like another?" {Firan}
Dianora's mouth twitches into a smile, although her eyes still look thoughtful. "Indeed, I would. Please do."
Nydiam motions to Oktar, "Two more, Mer." {Firan}
A handsome waiter takes Nydiam's order. A beautiful maiden brings Nydiam his raspberry wine. You pick up the raspberry wine.
A lovely waitress takes Nydiam's order. Given. A beautiful maiden brings Nydiam his raspberry wine. raspberry wine You pick up the raspberry wine.
Dianora takes the wine, but she doesn't drink it. "You've a very good voice. Does it come to you naturally, or did you receive training?"
Nydiam says, "My mother, Clan Leader Eve, formalized my education through various teachers and tutors, but I have always been gifted with words." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam smiles and takes a light sip from his glasses. He runs his finger around the rim and then looks at Dianora, "Your turn..." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora says, "Ah, yes.. Lady Eve. I have heard of her. You are fortunate, then, for one of the gods' greatest gifts is the gift of song." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam says, "I thank you for the compliment." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora smiles. "You wish a song? From me? But, dear Lord Nydiam.. for all you know, I may croak like a frog!"
Nydiam says, "I am willing to risk that, but someone who is as lovely as you are must also have a voice of pure silk that would make the gods weep." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam smirks roguishly.
Dianora laughs! "Oh, my.. you have a tongue of pure silk, I would say!" {Firan}
Nydiam sighs and looks heavenwards, "I am so misunderstood..." He feigns an exhaustive look. {Excellent Firan}
Dianora settles back in her chair once again, growing quiet until a small smile is on her face. Her eyes grow distant. "There is one my mother used to sing..." she begins, softly:
I will give you time, my friend, All the time that you could ask for, Time to heal all open sores, Time to reach the other shore, Time as my love lies waiting quietly for you.
Dianora pauses, then continues:
A quiet voice, an outstretched hand A willingness to share your load, An endless love, a burning brand, A warmth to permeate the cold.
Dianora smiles, singing as if to someone now: I will be here when you need me, I will hold your hand, I will let go when the need be, But I will always be here again.
Nydiam sits there for a sober moment, quiet in thought.
Dianora finishes, a faraway look on her face, the last note sounding just a little wistful.
Nydiam says, "That was beautiful. Your mother must love you very much." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora murmurs absently, "Yes.. our family was.. is close-knit. I rather miss them."
Nydiam says, "Where are they now?" {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam asks quietly.
Dianora shakes herself out of her reverie. "Most likely somewhere around the eastern shore, where it is a little warmer." {Firan}
Nydiam says, "Ah, I see. The family is a very important thing. Sometimes, I have wished to have actually met my father. I am sure that he and Zin have had their chuckles with some of my short-comings..." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam laughs lightly.
Dianora laughs. "And what do you think your short-comings are?" {Firan}
Nydiam shrugs, "Oh, I am not sure, but according the rumors that I have heard...they suggest that I am something of a knave." {Firan}
Dianora says, "A knave? And what would that be, kind sir?" {Excellent Firan}
Dianora gives you a teasing look.
Nydiam looks about and feigns innocence, "I am cursed." He says. {Firan}
Dianora scoffs lightly. "Cursed? I believe people make their own luck, dear sir."
Nydiam says, "I am cursed with incredibly good luck." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam smirks.
"Oh, how sad for you! How do you bear the suffering?" she continues to tease.
Nydiam looks down at the table sadly, "I am quite strong, you know. I fear that I may not be able to bear the burden if..."
Dianora hides her amusement with a mock concerned look. "Yes? If?"
Nydiam drains his glass of wine, "...if I do not have another glass of wine." He laughs.
Dianora laughs! "Well, that is good, I suppose.. I had rather expected you to say, "If I was not in the bosom of some woman!"
Nydiam looks slyly at Dianora, "Why? Are you offering?" {Firan}
Nydiam motions to Oktar.
A serving girl takes Nydiam's order. A beautiful maiden brings Nydiam his raspberry wine.
Dianora smiles. "Not at all. I suspect you can do better than I."
Nydiam takes the glass of wine and looks to Dianora. He sighs, "Alas, I am indeed cursed." He holds a straight face and then laughs, "You are a rare treat, Dianora."
Dianora chuckles. "That is quite a compliment, and I thank you. But surely that isn't a slight on the rest of the women in Anarinuell?" {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam says, "Some women are more laudable than others. Some are waspish prigs and others are tawdry harlots...you certainly do not fall into either one of those categories, my fair, raven-haired beauty." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora smiles. "Silken-tongued you are, indeed, Lord Nydiam. But I have no complaints." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam places a hand upon his chest, "Me? I am but a simple and straightforward man..." and then laughs, "With a curse of good luck." he adds after a moment.
Dianora shakes her head. "There you go again.. an oxymoron. Why do you call it a curse?" {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam says, "Well, it just does not seem fair to all the other nobles, now does it?" {Firan}
Nydiam sips his wine casually.
Dianora smiles. "Why would you care what the other nobles think?" {Firan}
Nydiam says, "Well, when I become Ranivor I would hope to have at least a few of their favors." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam says outlandishly.
Dianora says, "Ah.. yes, very reasonable and well-thought out, that. But I see one flaw." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam looks to Dianora, "Yes? What would that be?"
Dianora's mouth quirks in a suppressed smile. "I hardly think the princes would appreciate being dead."
Nydiam says, "Oh, that...yes, of course. Well, I guess now I do not have to worry about the other nobles, then. This has been an enlighten conversation; although, I am going to have to stew a little bit about this whole not becoming Ranivor bit." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam smirks.
Dianora hmms. "Is that worse than not becoming a clan leader?" {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam frowns slightly on that, "How do you mean?" {Firan}
Dianora asks gently, "Would you give up the position of Clan Leader, in order to be Ranivor?" {Firan}
Nydiam says, "That is an interesting question. It is one that I have never really considered. I merely jest when I speak of being Ranivor; however, I will most likely become a clan leader. I welcome that destiny with open arms." {Firan}
Dianora smiles once more. "And preparing yourself for when that time comes, I see." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam says, "As much as one can assume for leading others. Of what clan are you akin?" {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam takes another sip of wine.
Dianora says, "Ah, I am of the Gold Dragon Clan." {Firan}
Nydiam says, "Ah, the Gold Dragon...Yes, I like Clan Leader Judano. He has a way with words not unlike myself." {Firan}
Dianora toys idly with her glass. "I confess I have not been among my clan for too many years. I wonder if their customs would be strange to me now?" {Excellent Firan}
Dianora smiles at what appears to have been your fourth glass of wine. "Is that an especially good vintage, Lord Nydiam, or are you attempting to put yourself to sleep?"
Nydiam stifles a yawn at the mentioning of sleep, "It is a rather good vintage..." and then has a far away look, "O fear not in a world like this, and thou shalt know ere long, know how sublime a thing it is, to suffer and be strong."
Dianora gets to her feet and smiles gently. "Yes, 'tis true. It is sublime.. amongst some."
Nydiam sighs, "Or something to that affect..." he looks to Dianora, "Well, my radiant onyx jewel, I fear that I should go as well." He stands with her.
Dianora chuckles lightly. "It was a charming evening, sir. I thank you for both the wine and the companionship." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam bows flourishingly and with a slight brogue, "Twas a pleasure indeed." he says.
Nydiam says, "Do you need an escort to your quarters?" {Firan}
Dianora says, "Perhaps I should .. I do not know how safe it is in the city at night." {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam proffers an arm, "Lately, it has not been. Let all of your fears be calmed for those who can feel my presence tremble with every footfall." He says merrily.
Dianora giggles slightly and slips her arm through yours. "Lead on, then, my champion!"
Nydiam says, "Of course..." {Firan}
Dianora starts following you.
Nydiam falters a moment, "Where exactly am I going?"
Dianora laughs suddenly. "Oh, dear. My bad. Mes Karison's shop, north of the marketplace."
Nydiam nods, "Ah, I know exactly where that is."
You pull open one of the double doors, the door opening easily on its hinges. You walk out, the door closing silently behind you.
Asala walks in among the few people who are out this early and looks around to see which stall may be opening soon.
Dianora heads for home after a long night, escorted by Nydiam.
Nydiam takes note of Garillian and Asala as he and Dianora stroll through the marketplace.
Garillian doesn't move from his wall. "Evenin' folks." {Firan}
Dianora glances over towards the voice, and smiles. "Good evening." {Excellent Firan}
Asala nods to Nydiam and Dianora with a slight smile, pulling her hood down as she waits.
Nydiam inclines his head to Garillian, "Good evening..." and continues walking northwards.
You head north.
Anarinuell: Center Boulevard North Market Place
You are followed by Dianora. Dianora has arrived.
Nydiam says, "Well, you see...you are safe and sound." {Excellent Firan}
Dianora drops a small cursty. "I am very grateful, Lord Nydiam."
The glow of Zutiv's light starts to warm the dark skies.
Dianora stops following you.
Nydiam bows again, "Perhaps, we can share a glass of wine again sometime." He turns his gaze to the rising sun, "Oh my, it is rather late..."
Dianora shakes her head in amazement. "Is it nearing day already? The time flew!" {Excellent Firan}
Nydiam replies modestly, "I have that effect sometimes." {Firan}
Dianora laughs. "I had better scamper in, then, and get a little bit of sleep before Mes Karison finds me. Again, thank you, and rest well, sir."
Dianora smiles and curtsies again, then slips into the shop.
Dianora passes through the wooden door swathed in fabric and steps into the clothing store.
Dianora has left.
Nydiam sighs and leaves.
