Adan and Yassamin Scandals

The Adan and Yassamin Scandals have spanned years, ever since Lord Adan divorced his then wife, Lady Arika, for another noblewoman, Lady Yassamin.

The Persona Dramatis

Lord Adan Ista Barun (nee Istabannos)
Lord Adan along with his brother, Rikon, returned to Anarinuell after many years in captivity. He was acknowledged by Prince Sadin Elianik as his son but when he disagreed with Sadin, he was once more unacknowledged. He married Lady Arika N'Gato and joined the Hydran clan and the N'Gato family. There were two children produced.

Lady Yassamin Ista Barun
While traveling on business near Agadin, Lord Adan rescued Lady Yassamin from the Ista Barun. Although he was married, he was very smitten by the young innocent noblewoman and divorced his wife to marry the Ista Barun. He was then given the nickname 'The Defiler' by his brother in law.

Brother to Lady Arika, Lord Rodiste is the oldest brother of the N'Gato family and a proxy of the Hydra Clan.

The First Scandal

As the marriage was a very political one, the divorcing Lady Arika was a blow to the N'Gato family. In the monotheistic beliefs, divorce is not an option. So when Lord Adan left the marriage for another woman, the N'Gatos were furious. Lord Rodiste challenged Lord Adan to a duel in the amphitheater despite the fact duels are illegal in the Hydran clan. Lord Rodiste won thus 'defending' Lady Arika's honor. The fact the Cockatrice paid 20 million stenis for the upkeep of Lady Arika and her children who would remain Hydran citizens did not hurt matters. In the end, Clan Leader Amenik divorced the two and made it illegal for the 'Defiler' to be spoken of within the Hydran clan.

The Second Scandal

After Adan won the 50/50 Pentathlon and chose Lady Yassamin with his marriage prize at the Spring Festival in 42 A.U., there was talk of another divorce. Supposedly, the lova match was over and Lady Yassamin wished to divorce Lord Adan. It was announced by the Eeshan temple that they were divorced. Then, following a pox which claimed the life of many children in the city, it was announced by a member of the Eeshan Temple that the divorce was not 'fully performed' and they were still husband and wife. This was further complicated as Lord Adan had been chosen as a marriage prize by Lady Lucia Tanelish and the two had been married with Lady Yassamin officiating! It was determined that the original divorce was not legal and Lord Adan and Lady Yassamin were still legally wed. The marriage of Lord Adan and Lady Lucia was declared invalid, as it could not have happened if he was never truly divorced.

The Third Scandal

With no warning, on Jul 25, 46 A.U. Lord Rodiste made the following speech:

Rodiste stands at the True Temple with Yassamin. He holds her hand.

"I have just received word that the Defiler has been killed. My sources in the Cockatrice Clan leadership say sources point to the same people that burnt down that pagan priestess Chelona's dwelling several months ago. No bother! People have been wondering as to my choice with the wedding prize and I have given it to Lady Yassamin. She has chosen to marry me and thus I invite you all down to the True Temple right now! Zutiv Bless!"

And with that Rodiste turns back to Kael at the altar.

There was no proof that Lord Adan was dead but yet, in short order, Lady Yassamin was defrocked by Her Honor High Priestess of the Realm Fidelia. The Cockatrice have sworn they will get to the bottom of this. The Eeshan temple spoke out against the marriage prize being used in such a mockery of a marriage. Where it stands? Who knows.

Resolution Day 1

Emits

• It is just about two months to the big summer push in Ellish. The Firans have suffered large casualties both in freeing the city and with the recent scuffle over democracy. They cannot afford many more losses and maintain the city.
• The Republic is startled when the quiet preparations for war are shattered by an announcement from Lord Rodiste N'Gato that he has been informed that Lord Adan is dead. Rumors abound that he produced his marriage prize and gave it to Lady Yassamin. According to Rodiste, she chose to marry back to the N'Gatos!
• The Republic is not sure where to stand on Lady Yassamin. She and Lord Rodiste have not been seen in several days. On one hand, this could have all been a clever ruse by Lord Proxy Rodiste N'Gato to lure Lady Yassamin into a pit and leave her there to die. This would be pretty popular with the Hydra Clan. On the other hand, the fact that both seem to have disappeared and gone into hiding feels like an admission of guilt to the Republic. The only certainty is that Firan culture is not forgiving to running and hiding. Even with the worse scandal, mobs are always more relaxed in being able to address the issue. Pitchforks and torches are ready. If they find out who is hiding the abominations of marriage law, they are certain to get rowdy.
• After a few days, it becomes clear that Lord Adan Ista Barun is missing. There does appear to be an investigation which contradicts Lord Rodiste's speech that Lord Adan had been revealed to be dead by Cockatrice leadership. So far, there is no word from the missing nobleman.
• The Hydra Clan remarks rather firmly that they are /not/ calling her Lady Yassamin N'Gato. Harumph and fie on that idea!
• Rumblings have begun in the military that there are infantry men and women who will not follow Lord Rodiste into battle. This has to put a kink in plans for the upcoming Ellish tours. The people wonder what new talent will step up to fill this gap? Will they be able to maintain Ellish?
• A few Cockatrice Guards were halted at the Hydra District and have since returned home. They were just trying to do their jobs but now they've seen this return to the Cockatrice Clan as a good short vacation to get laid and drink before they're thrown into active duty.
• A couple Hydra Guards have up and quit their jobs. Some have gone to the True Temple to pray while a few others jump into the unemployment line to be bodyguards or other sort of manly guard like jobs.
• The stage has been set for Anarinuell. Currently, there is much confusion about what happened between Lord Rodiste and Lady Yassamin as well as questions about their whereabouts. Lord Adan remains missing and investigators are actively searching for his location. The move towards Ellish has ramped up with supply gathering at an all time high. (This marks the end of Resolution Day - we were able to resolve missing items. The next resolution day will be June 22, 2009 with resolution day requests due June 21, 2009 at 11:59 PM EST.)

Social Adjustments

• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Rodiste (-2,000,000) – The people are baffled by Lord Rodiste's announcement on numerous accounts. For one, they are sure that Lord Proxy Rikon would have announced something so delicate as his own brother's death and would not have left the task up to a family who hates him with the fire of a thousand suns. Second, everyone in the Republic balks at the claim of death and then immediate marriage. Even atheists are having a pretty hard time resolving the mourning period involved in this situation. Third, the Hydrans are pretty outraged that the whore who ruined Lady Arika somehow thinks she is going to end up in the True Temple. True Temple of the White Dove, maybe. The Hydrans don't believe in whores so the best suggested outcome they offer is death.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Kael (-1,000,000) – The Hydrans would have cheered the fact that Lord Kael N'Gato had been given the Order of the Warrior Priests. However, they now believe that he pushed this order as a clever ruse to get made priest so he could undermine the True Temple of Zutiv. Rumor is he was seen at their own True Temple and married Lord Rodiste and Lady Yassamin. The Hydrans don't believe they should have to point out that Yassamin was the woman that Adan /left/ Kael's sister Arika over...that his sister was scandalized by the affair. And while the Hydrans do not believe in Eesha, they certainly believe that Zutiv could not be offering his blessing to this ritual.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Arika (-200,000) – Poor Lady Arika, her husband runs off to marry a Cockatrice and her family gets all inflamed and it's a huge public embarrassment. Now, her brother has gone and married this very same woman who helped scandalize her. It would be much more of an embarrassment for her, but, people have grown sympathetic to her plight.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Aeryk (500,000) – The Cockatrice Clan has had a lot of incidents in the past year so they are glad that Lord Aeryk IstaNydiam has come forward to announce an investigation has started. Indeed, people have seen investigators bustling about so they are convinced that a full scale report is coming any day now.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Rodiste (-1,000,000) – Lord Aeryk provides evidence in his speech that the Cockatrice Clan leadership did not seem to inform him the Defiler was killed at all. One hopes that he didn't try to get married on a misunderstood messenger of some sort!
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Rodiste (-1,000,000) – The Hydrans do not welcome Lady Yassamin to the Hydra Clan at all. And since nobody has formally done so, they have dropped the proxy from Lord Rodiste's title and refuse to follow this inane and immoral judgment. They look to the clan leadership to do something...anything.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Alastor (-200,000) – The people are inclined to believe the highly influential Lord Erato Ista Barun over a Ticanee in regards to Lady Yassamin.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Yassamin (-200,000) – Some random guy named Alastor makes a speech claiming Lady Yassamin was raised in Shamibel. He's not all that well-known to start out with so it doesn't get much credence. Also, Lord Erato Ista Barun verifies from Caldera City that Lady Yassamin is his daughter and he thinks he would know such a thing. Due to his influence, the people are inclined to believe he knows what he is talking about. At this time, he was unavailable for further comment. He's a very busy, important man in Caldera City you see.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Rodiste (-1,000,000) – On the Eve of war, Lord Rodiste is suspended from duty and replaced with Lord Cortik Junik and Dame Captain Sarina Whitefeather. The people are amiable with the abilities of both Lord Cortik and Dame Captain Sarina. Still, the reason Lord Rodiste was such a good Infantryman was he did spontaneous things just like this during battle and took risks. The Lord Rodiste they know would never just hide when war is on the line!
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Cortik & Sarina (500,000) – The people are convinced that the new infantry commanders will do fine. However, it's a 500,000 SP up front and another 500,000 SP later when they don't mess up. No pressure or anything. The people only expect that you will be the best infantry commanders ever!
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Yassamin (-1,000,000) – Lady Yassamin is not only defrocked by Fidelia herself, but in his damning speech Unot's High Priest Sir Parosh casts her out of Unot's temple entirely and proclaims her unwelcome even for worship. Lady Yassamin is all but excommunicated by Firan standards. Every funeral, wedding, divorce, or other religious ceremony which Lady Yassamin performed in her time as a priestess is now suspect. Couples that were married by her ask to have their vows renewed by a real priest.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Chelona (100,000) – Chelona's speech calling Rodiste and Yassamin's marriage a mockery is met with approval by a number of Firans. No one, not even atheists, finds it seemly that someone could marry when her husband has not yet had a funeral, and there's not even been word of his body being brought to the Resting Chamber of the Temple of Unot yet. Even those who didn't care for Adan are appalled at this behavior, and understand the outrage of the Eeshans that the sacred marriage prize was used to try and justify this abrupt marriage. Chelona is preaching to the choir, as everyone is already fairly outraged about this marriage.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Chelona (-75,000) – Chelona's message suffers somewhat, however, due to the messenger. Some Firans point out that Chelona used her own marriage prize to marry off two royals without consulting with or even informing their families, and was supposedly unrepentant at the trouble caused. Who is she to judge how others use their marriage prize? Hypocrisy!

Resolution Day 2

Emits

• At dawn, there are those who say they saw a woman leaving the N'Gato Manor as they were preparing for an early breakfast or to start their daily farming. She had very little possessions on her. One last look was given to the mansion, then, she walked away into the sunrise. Thus far, her whereabouts are unknown.
• Hydra Citizens have grown less than patient with this whole situation. It has become increasingly clear that Lord Rodiste and Lady Yassamin have been holed up in their district this whole time. They start gathering outside the N'Gato Manor and begin to clamor for Zutivian brand justice.
• Later that day, Chimeran citizens who were going through their morning routine would remark that they swear they saw Lady Yassamin pass through district. Oddly, it would not be until much later as she seemed to have done so without being recognized or stopped. A lot of old biddies in the clan note that kids these days listen to awful music and they probably saw what they wanted to see. Lady Yassamin Indeed. She definitely had lighter hair than that and no crows feet and oh my but she definitely did not walk with a limp or a hunch.
• The Hydrans are not like polytheistic clans and they are definitely not like Gold Dragons. There is no fire as they gather outside the N'Gato Manor. However, they are a very patient people. They are modest and hard working and can stand outside even on a hot day for incredible amounts of time. In fact, the punishing light of Zutiv's rays is a pleasant reminder of humility and modesty for them. And in Hydra fashion, women have brought food. They are now eating a buffet lunch outside the N'Gato Manor while they wait for a response. Quietly and while getting a decent sun burn.
• As the afternoon rolls on, Yassamin sightings and gossip go up all over the city. At this point, it's difficult to pinpoint where she actually was because people have jumped on board the story and the rumor.
• Mid-Afternoon in the Hydra District, the True Temple priests have shown up. Nobody expects the Hydran Inquisition, but, they probably should have. They are waiting outside with the others expecting that someone, anyone will be turned over to answer to Zutiv for this trespass on the ritual of marriage. Names are being thrown out in regards to 'Lady Yassamin' and 'Lord Rodiste' and 'Lord Kael'.
• As the day comes to an end, the Hydra Mob remains patient and steady minded outside the N'Gato Mansion waiting for justice to be done. The Religious Council has said its peace and the people are content with their quick action and firm ruling. Lady Yassamin Ista Barun and Lord Rodiste N'Gato remain missing, though, the assumption has come to pass that they are hiding in the N'Gato Manor. With the count down to war on the horizon, there is few precious days left to settle the city. (OOC: War is 7 days away my friends. As such, Resolution Day will occur early with everything due Wednesday, June 24th at 11:59 PM for Thursday)
• The guards in the Hydra District spend a day thoroughly investigating the entire Hydra District. They find no evidence that Lady Yassamin is still in the house or the district of the Hydra Clan.

Social Adjustments

• Disses: Rodiste (-214,914) – You bring dishonor upon the Ista Barun Family Name!
• Disses: Yassamin (-76,508) – Whore!
• Praises: Firistan (43,054) – A true leader among men. While his brother may ape the manners of the notorious Pavan, Firistan remains on the path of the true warrior!
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Rodiste (-2,000,000) – Lord Rodiste is stripped of his title. This would be awkward enough having it done by a fellow proxy, however, that proxy is his own brother. It is an awkward and shameful moment for the N'Gato family.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Firistan (500,000) – The Hydra Clan does feel some sort of sympathy for Lord Proxy Firistan having to remove his own brother's title. They feel it was the right move even if it caused a political fuss. Also, the Hydra Clan is very deep into believing in Zutiv's own justice so they feel that religion will handle the rest.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Rodiste (-1,000,000) – The marriage of Lady Yassamin and Lord Rodiste is considered null and void according to the Hydra Clan. More than that, it is revealed that he threatened and coerced his own brother Lord Kael N'Gato to perform a marriage ritual. He also backs up politically future judgments by other ruling councils.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Yassasmin (-2,000,000) – The Hydra Clan and even some from other clans agree, Lady Yassamin definitely is a jezebel! They would have fallen on their sword or called out for help before they let themselves be drug around by Lord Rodiste N'Gato!
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Rodiste & Yassasmin (-2,000,000) – The people agree with the Religious Council that the marriage prize should not be used in a fashion that involves the supposed ashes of one's spouse still cooling. This decision mirrors and backs up the political judgments of Lord Firistan. This could, in fact, be the first time the Hydra Clan and the Religious Council agreed in recent history.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Fidelia & Firistan (500,000) – The Religious Council and the Hydra Clan have agreed right before a war season campaign. This has to be some sort of good omen right? (If you know someone on the RC, please consider spending your praises on them! THIS IS BIG NEWS!)
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Rodiste & Yassasmin (-1,000,000) – Lord Rodiste and Lady Yassamin are not directly accused by Lord Aeryk of killing Lord Adan Ista Barun, however, Lord Aeryk's speech is enough that the people gasp in shock! They had only been baffled and accusatory up until this point, but, with this speech the reality has sunk in. Lord Adan is dead. While he was not necessarily liked by every clan, the murder story has woven a tale of love, murder and mystery that has grabbed the attention of the people.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Rodiste (-1,000,000) – Lord Rodiste has been placed on the Rock of Redemption by his own brother. The Hydrans are quietly disapproving of his actions, more so, it is an example of the simple justice that the clan is comfortable with. Whether or not Rodiste will survive his grueling two days, remains to be seen.
• SOCIAL/ADJUST: Adan (2,000,000) – While Lord Adan had his ups and downs, his death has created a story of love, intrigue and mystery in the minds of the people. The Cockatrice Clan, especially, has jumped on board this story of Lord Adan who loved a woman enough to leave his current wife. Their beloved Adan returned to the Cockatrice Clan over the love of a woman. A woman who did not return his love and had him killed by a N'Gato. More so, in death, Adan has achieved the sort of revenge that very few other dead men have accomplished. Both Lady Yassamin and Lord Rodiste, the accused, have gone through all sorts of trials and ruin. The Cockatrice Clan clamors for a memorial funeral despite the lack of body.

Aftermath

• In the early morning hours today, Hydra Clan guards and several True Temple priests move through the patient Hydra mob outside of the N'Gato Mansion. They are very solemn, indeed, nobody is enjoying what is about to occur. The crowd lets them pass with bowed heads as the guards disappear into the house.
• Sometime later, the guards march Rodiste through the patient mob and to the Rock of Redemption. He is shackled to it per his brother's judgment to spend two days there under Zutiv's watchful eyes. The mob has dispersed at the N'Gato Household probably to go the Rock of Redemption or to do chores.
