Overview

AGADIN: Place of the Mountain

Before the Great War, Agadin was a great tourist settlement which had grown up at the feet of the Zhenti Mountains and which supported the population of Uffian Oracles atop the mountain and the many religious pilgrims that travelled there to consult with them. It was a thriving city before the Great War.

Though the Firans were able to drive the Shamibelians out of Agadin, its proximity to Ellish across the river leaves it a war-torn, dangerous area where Shamibelian griffon raids are common and the citizenry is never safe. Most of the populace has moved away, leaving only adventurers and soldiers in their wake.

Atmosphere

Agadin. A thriving military city if ever there was one. Actual people live here too, of course. Most of them married to soldiers. Most of them Cockatrice Citizens. But there's a guardedness here. Far more so than in Anarinuell. There are near daily air raids in Agadin, a constant game of chicken between the two sides in their epic war struggle. There are barrels of sand and water everywhere. Guards at every street corner. Particularly watcheful of the south and east gates, to venture past which generally involves grave danger. There's a number of pubs, even more whorehouses, and a certain grit about Agadin. Many many inns too, for the travelers who come on the way to the Oracle. The people here are serious, and tend not to meet your eyes when you pass them. It's not considered polite.

Local Personalities

  • Commander Wittar Hillock
    • Commander of the Watch stationed in Agadin.
    • A Cockatrice citizen.
    • Grew up in Agadin, father was some official or other there and is independently wealthy.
    • While he's got all the affctations of a neo noble or upper-middle class social-climber, he bleeds Republic Green and is straight-down-the line, tough talking Military man with little time for those who play at being soldiers.
    • A typical exchange from Commander Wittar to a visiting noble: The watch commander looks a bit amused, but in that Jack Nicholson kind of contemptuous way from A Few Good Men. "My Lord... this is Agadin. We're the last bastion against tyranny in the Free World. We don't have offices here. We've got barracks. We've got armories. We've got watch stations. If I want to talk to my soldiers, I damned well make them stand out in the cold and listen to what I have to say and if I want to talk privately, I tell them to go the feck away."
    • Had an encounter with Lord Adan N'Gato in 41 A.U. and is still pissed about it.
