The Firan Air Force
The Firan Air Force was developed to counter the threat posed by the Shamibelian air forces. Whilst there are two mounts available (griffons and Giant Eagles pilots are almost exclusively mounted upon griffons.
With the relative youth of the Air Force compared to the Shamibelians' air forces -- and the fact that the Firans have far fewer griffons and pilots than their enemies -- casualties in the Air Force are higher than those of other units, although service in the Republic Air Force is looked upon as an honor and a privilege. Many pilots are said to have an air of bravado and joie-de-vivre because of the combined danger and prestige of their profession.
Air Force Organisation
The Firan Air Force is currently commanded by Commander Tagda Leafchaser. It is broken down into two groups, the pilots and the archers. Lord Captain Marsalos is currently the XO of the Air Force, with the other Captains, Centurions, and Sentries stationed under him.
The Air Force usually organizes itself around sub-groups called "Wings", which consist of four pilots plus a wing leader. These wings are gathered under the command of a Captain. These wings tend to further be segregated by specialty with the majority of the pilots acting as air support.
Griffon pilots are also unique in their peacetime duties, providing aerial patrols in assistance of the Guard.

- MedEvac brings healers to embattled, cut-off units on the battlefield and evacuates the seriously wounded from dangerous positions.
- Air Support provides aerial archery support and forms the primary defense against enemy griffon riders.
History
When the Shamibelians invaded the Firan Republic in 0 A.U their armies were supported by an air force of griffon-mounted pilots. The aerial superiority afforded by griffon-mounted shamibelian archers induced the Clan Council to offer a reward or pardon to anyone who could capture one and bring it back to them. Garen, the assassin of Kenirikas, promptly delivered a griffon to the Council, securing a pardon for his murder of the Clan Leader without a trial. Shortly after the formation of the air force the republic cavalry forces were disbanded; partly because horses are extremely nervous when griffons are about. Cavalry units have since been reintroduced to the First Division.

Standing Orders
S2-1 --Donos added: All pilots are hereby ordered to always ride with one archer present except with express permission to fly alone. No pilots should ever fly without another archer. If they are caught doing so, there will be immediate consequences. Also, pilots should take caution and not fly without another griffon and pilot with them, as it creates a dangerous situation if they happen upon any raiders. They should fly in pairs, leaving one pair to head back and get reinforcements if needed.
Pilots are hereby orders to pilot griffons by order of rank. This means that in battle situations, Captains and Centurions will grab griffons first, then they will find an archer. If all available archers are taken, Sentry pilots MUST act as an archer for pilots in need. Sentry pilots are NOT to fly a mount unless all Captains and Centurions have an archer to fly out with first.
