Overview

Akiva is a diplomat of the Bear clan, born into the royal house of that clan, the Ista Aldrik family. She has made her reputation primarily as Clan Leader Fidelia's proxy and problem solver. Clan duties that fall into the "dangerous" or "requiring absolute trust" categories were often given to the young Ista Aldrik. She has served in the Republic Military from a young age as a diplomat and supplies officer, something she refers to as 'logistics'.

She is most famous for having been abducted as a child by Gadiste during his attempt to take control of the Hydra clan. Trying to force Akiva's compliance in acknowledging him as a legal authority while she was held hostage, she refused to submit to him and the Hydran lord cut her cheeks in retaliation. She bears the scars to these days, and is sometimes referred to as "the Scarred Princess". Rarely to her face. People seem to find her mildly intimidating.

Ranks & Offices

Akiva's full proper title is Princess Commander Akiva Elianik, Proxy of the Bear Clan.

  • Bear Clan Proxy
  • Royal Princess (by marriage)
  • Commander, Republic Military 5th Division
  • Bear Clan Minister of Business

Family Life

Akiva is the firstborn child and daughter of Gellina Ista Aldrik and Gavin Rissik. According to the marriage agreement she has been a Bear and an Ista Aldrik since birth. In her early childhood her family lived with the Rissik family in the Chimera district, but her parents divorced and she, her mother, and her brother returned to the Ista Aldrik Estate. Those who know the family say that Akiva was as much raised by her 'aunt' Fidelia as by her own mother, who was known to be a bit on the flighty side. She is fiercely loyal and protective of Fidelia and has a habit of overreacting when she believes her aunt may be overtaxed or in distress.

Akiva has one child, an infant daughter named Catelyn who is a princess and an Elianik by virtue of her father.

Siblings

Sirio: Akiva has one brother, Sirio Ista Aldrik, a young soldier who lives at the Ista Aldrik estate. They are quite close, and often spend time with one another, plotting this and that. Sirio is known to be very protective of his older sister.

Marriage

Lucas: Prince Lucas Elianik, the son of Prince Sadin and Lady Lucretia, married Akiva in November of 34 A.U. Their courtship was tumultuous, primarily due to Prince Lucas being chosen as a marriage prize by then-Lady Diamia IstaNydiam. Diamia changed her mind, however, and the two were thusly married later that fall.

Accomplishments

Nelabam: Akiva was the chosen arbiter of the tense situation in the Bear-controlled city of Nelabam. Instigators of a particularly violent opposition to Bear rule had threatened the city, murdering Lady Pamella and Lord Anaxotran Shadina. The Bear clan elite guards completed a surprise resolution to the city when Lady Akiva visited, drawing the attention of the rebels and provoking an attack upon herself. Little did the rebels realize that they had been thoroughly infiltrated by Bear agents, and they were to a man executed.

Nekaht: Along with Melani Oshta, Akiva was designated as a primary diplomatic contact for the visiting Nekaht.

Meliha: Akiva sat in judgement over the trial of Mes Meliha, a murderous twin who claimed authority from the god Unot to cause riots and cover her guilt in the murder of her own twin sister.

Bear-Chimera Conflict: During Zeysani's War, the Bear and Chimera clans nearly came to full-on war near the Hydra border. Akiva was sent as Bear proxy to try and keep the peace, and managed to do so -- after having been shot down over Hydra territory and crawling with a badly broken leg across the border to where the Bear forces were encamped. (Despite this, she still rather enjoys flying. Masochist that she is.) She was 15 years old at the time.

Enemies

  • Shadowy enemies who lurk unseen in corners!
  • The Hydran populace
  • Lucretia. Her mother in law may (or may not!) have had a dead horse's head delivered to Akiva's house upon announcement of her betrothal to Lucas.
  • Formerly Diamia, but the two have since reconciled. The Cockatrice clan in general is not terribly warm towards Akiva, though.

It is perhaps worth noting that the Ista Aldriks do not historically have many enemies. This is mostly because they end up dead, sooner or later, or exiled, stripped of their titles, and otherwise made unavailable. Those who notably remain enemies of the family should be admired for their dextrous survival and generally respected.

Allies

  • Her fellow Ista Aldriks -- except for the wicked ones, one assumes.
  • Her 'cousins' -- legion, blood-related, and for the most part friendly. They all get along relatively well when agendas don't overly clash.
  • Anyone else who shares a similar agenda to herself. She does not advertise the identities of these people.

Scandals

She's a scarred member of a much-feared and frequently-disliked family, both pitied and disliked for her very identity, regardless of her actual behavior; in the past she was tasked with dangerous and potentially controversial decisions involving cutting throats and brokering cease fires. What some might call scandal (namely her marriage) others politely applaud as political acumen; she is not prone to drunken behavior in public, cat fights, hair pulling, or being seen without her hairpins. Some might find her continued service in the 5th division as beneath someone of her rank, but others might equally nod approvingly at her duty to the Republic. What is controversial about Akiva is less her actions than her identity as an Ista Aldrik and her complete refusal to pretend to be other than she is: outspoken, serious, and uninterested in triviality and frivolity.

Miscellany

Of all the princesses, Akiva is perhaps one of the more elusive. Unlike the very popular Laytania, Akiva does not often play hostess for festive events. She rarely attends parties or balls, preferring to spend her time in contemplation or in the practice of her duties. Her social tastes run more towards family dinners, political discussions, meetings or other non-dancing gatherings.

Habits

Akiva has a habit of wearing her hair somewhat loose in the pins, letting a few strands of it fall across her cheeks. When her ire is up she is bitingly sarcastic and wields her tongue like a sword, perhaps unjudiciously.

Likes

Horseback riding, archery, a good jest, poetry, fables, legends, Unot, silver, broccoli potato bakes, ink, her brother, sarcasm, gallantry, and good sense.

Dislikes

Traitors, troublemakers, idiots, frivolous people, childbirth, tomatoes, blood, histrionics, war, drunkards, spiders, her father, and overzealous monotheists.
