Official Statement
My name is Akiva Ista--my name is Akiva Samiroon. I was in the stocks all night, so I know nothing about the death of either Governor Hralib or his slave, Throgana. But I was once a student of Firan law, and I can tell you that when someone was murdered, our guards tried to find out who had the most to gain by the victim's death. For example, someone like Governor Hralib's son, Hashi, stands to inherit everything he owns now that he's dead. Just for example.
Background
Akiva used to think that the worst night of her life was when Gadiste cut up her face. Later, she thought it might be the night Gemella died. Then she was sure the worst night of her life was the night Anarinuell fell to the goats, and she found herself enslaved. But she was wrong.
Last night, watching the Shamibelians sacrifice her beloved Aunt Fidelia, the High Priestess of the Firan Realms, draining her blood into a cauldron--that was the worst night of her life. She begged Hralib and Tatomir, on her hands and knees, not to sacrifice her Aunt, but that only ended up getting her stocked and whipped.
Akiva is not proud of it, but she prayed to Unot to just let her freeze to death and be done with it out there in the stocks during the unseasonably cold night air. But, instead, her stupid, brave, Prince of a husband came to free her from the stocks later that night, and was caught by their master. Lainath was enraged at them both, and put out Lucas' eye.
So here they are now, the two of them. Lucas bleeding from his eye, bloodied and bandaged. Akiva bleeding from her back, and in great pain. And the only good news to be had is that Hralib is dead.
Relationships
- Aylina -- Though Akiva was a princess and her noble blood is far better than Aylina's, things like that have largely ceased to matter in occupied Anarinuell. The two of them have become very good friends, and confide in one another often.
- Lucas -- Akiva and Lucas were lucky enough to be kept together after the invasion, and though the Shamibelians don't honor their marriage, Lainath lets them stay together as man and wife. The two of them have recently been estranged because he has been keeping secrets and possibly having an affair, but now that he lost an eye protecting her, she's softened towards him.
- Lainath -- Akiva's master. He's an evil, short-tempered, asshole with an inferiority complex. Sadly, he's still one of the best masters that Akiva could hope for in Ellish because he's fairly easy going until provoked.
- Savanna -- Akiva thinks that this Eagle whore might actually be having an affair with her husband. If Savanna had been a whore before the occupation, that'd be one thing. But she was supposedly a noblewoman. So Akiva hates her.
- Aldrin -- Akiva's cousin Aldrin was nearly unhinged at having to watch his mother be sacrificed to Obala. Akiva is worried about him, and what he may have done.
- Osirus -- Osirus is another one of Lainath's slaves; they live together. He used to be a Hydran.
- Ladonna -- Ladonna is another one of Lainath's slaves; they live together. She was born an Eagle but became a Chimeran after marrying. Either way she's a slave now.

Akiva Round One
Round One Reveal
When Akiva pled on her knees with Hralib not to let Tatomir sacrifice her aunt Fidelia at the Night of Obala's Pride, Hralib told her that Fidelia was old and useless to him as a slave. So as far as Akiva is concerned, Hralib deserved to die.
Still, everyone knows that Akiva was stocked the night of the murders, so how could she have killed Hralib or Throgana?
They say murder is often a family affair. You know, Hashi recently asked Akiva to show him her penmanship and to mimic his father Hralib's signature. Now, what would he need a forged signature for?
Akiva's friend, Aylina, once told her that her mistress, Fissia, can't stand Hashi. Vitara Fissia apparently thinks Hashi is a worthless husband, and doesn't deserve to inherit anything from his father. Maybe she killed Hralib, knowing that his slaves would be blamed and executed before her worthless husband could inherit them.
Remember too that Hashi's dog Spike is devoted only to Fissia and she's trained it to kill on command. It could have left the scratch mark on Hralib's body and bitten off his finger.
Besides, everyone knows that Hashi's wife, Vitara Fissia, threatens slaves by telling them that if they don't obey, she'll cut off their fingers and feed them to Spike. Maybe she and Hashi decided to treat Hralib the same way.
Everyone knows that Savanna works with a forge, day in and day out making armor. If anyone were going to shove ashes into Hralib's mouth, it'd have been her.
Round One Conceal
Akiva pled with Governor Hralib to spare Fidelia from the slaughter, and when he refused, she swore to herself that if Unot willed it, she'd see him dead somehow.
Akiva was actually released from the stocks, by Lucas, at 12:30AM on the Night of Obala's Pride--she had ample opportunity to kill Hralib.
In some ways, Lainath is an abomination in the Shamibelian world. Due to a strange set of circumstances in which his mother, a haffie slave, was given land by her master's wife, she and her son were freed. Lainath is one quarter Firan and far less orange skinned than the rest of the warriors. His horns are also not as prominent--something he's been teased about all his life. So he has to overcompensate.
Akiva is a permit forger, and one of the best in Anarinuell. In Hralib's presence, she always made sure to write in a distinctive fashion, so, there's no way that he was on to her.
Akiva doesn't worry too much about getting caught for forging permits. After all, if Lainath found out, Akiva would be in trouble, but he probably wouldn't tell anybody else, because it would be an embarrassment to him. Yet another example of how he's not strict enough with his slaves.
Akiva is worried about Aldrin. A few days ago, he came to her and asked her to forge some documents that made it look as if Tatomir had it out for Hralib. He told her not to ask any questions, and she agreed. But now she wishes she had.
Aldrin considered himself not just Fidelia's political heir, but her religious heir, and that he considers himself 'High Priest of the Firan Realms' now that she is gone. Akiva would not be surprised if he killed Hralib in some ritualistic way.
Akiva comes from a very religious family--she's always curious about religious laws, and whether or not it's really desecration if you dismember the bodies of Shamibelians . . .
It's true that Akiva is keenly interested in acquiring Shamibelian fire bombs. After all, she is from a very religious family, and couldn't such firebombs be used to burn a lot of bodies at once for proper funeral rites?
In fact, Akiva is very interested in firebombing the catacombs even though they used to be the palace.
Round One Props
- An Ace Bandage Wrapped Around Her Ribs and Back
- Child Object
- Permits for Akiva to Forge and Give Out
- pen and paper
Akiva Round Two
Round Two Reveal
Akiva knows that before Lucas came to free her from the stocks, he visited the Great Library to see if he could save some historical scrolls from the fires that continually burned there, and he emerged covered in ash.
Moreover, Lucas was wet and shivering when he let Akiva out of the stocks, and seems to be suffering from hypothermia even now. She'll be ever so proud of Lucas if he actually killed Hralib.
Empyrean asked Akiva to make him some forged travel permits so that he could follow Hralib around. He was hoping to catch Governor Hralib at a time that his eye was not on his prized 'Skull of Taleo' goblet. And Akiva hates to admit it, but Empyrean was positively stalking Hralib the Night of Obala's Pride.
Akiva forged permits for Zaridos, Savaren, Jalil, Lucas and Torianos so they could all sneak away from the "festivities" to meet at the Temple of Zin to discuss the resistance. If Hralib caught them there, they'd have surely drowned him. And bully for them if they did!
People pick on Orsatos too much. Orsatos has always been loyal to the Princes, having tutored them for many years at the palace. Other slaves may think he's a collaborator, but he was just pretending to be a good slave so as to avoid suspicion.
Hralib forbid Lainath from marrying any of his step-daughters, because he is a quarterbreed. This infuriated Lainath and he's particularly violent against those who discriminate against him. It wouldn't surprise Akiva one bit to learn that her master killed Hralib and is letting his slaves take the blame.
After all, Hralib was always picking on Akiva's master. When Akiva begged for Fidelia's life before she was sacrificed on the Night of Obala's Pride, Hralib mocked Lainath for having no control over his slaves. This enraged Lainath, who took it out on Akiva by whipping and stocking her for the night. But that might not have been enough to satisfy his rage.
Lainath hates looking soft on his slaves, and is especially touchy when it comes to humiliation, because he has a self-confidence problem about not being fully Shamibelian. He's touchy enough to kill someone, like Hralib, if he thought it would spare him humiliation.
Akiva believes that Savanna and Lucas are having an affair--they've been meeting secretly. If Hralib came upon them, and learned that the slave he wanted to buy was an adulterous whore, she might have killed him to shut him up.
Round Two Conceal
Akiva is worried about her friend Aylina. She knows that Aylina has a taste for killing Hralib's family members. In fact, Aylina murdered Hashi's brother, Hralib's favorite son, and cut him up into chunks so that no one would ever find him.
Akiva doesn't blame Aylina for killing Hralib's son, but worries that Unot is not going to take kindly to her desecration of the body--she turned him into stew meat.
Akiva knows there was a special ingredient in the stew that Aylina served to Hralib the Night of Obala's pride, but it wasn't poison--it was cut up chunks of his missing son's dead body.
Although Akiva and Aylina are friends, they have been fighting lately. Akiva wants Aylina to stop using dead body parts and feeding them to the Shamibelians because she fears it's a curse to the gods.
Akiva knows that there was something about the armor Savanna made for Hralib that upset Aylina very much. She isn't sure what, but the fact that Hralib is dead and his armor is missing, makes her worry that Aylina had something to do with it.
Ladonna is the Mata Hari of the resistance movement, delivering the permits that Akiva forges and carrying messages between the Firans in coded songs. If she's willing to take those risks, wouldn't she take the risk of assassinating the Shamibelian Governor?
Round Two Props
- Ladonna's cipher
Round Two Additional Goals
- Make Sure Aylina had nothing to do with the murders
- Dig up dirt on Savanna
- Find a way to pin the murder on Savanna if you can't figure out who the real killer is. If someone has to die, better her than all of Hralib's slaves.
Akiva Round Three
Round Three Reveal
Akiva doubts that Lainath really killed Hralib, because it sounds like about the time Hralib died, Lainath was busy putting out Lucas' eye in revenge for freeing her from the stocks.
Akiva thinks it's unlikely that Dyanna killed Hralib, because she spent much of the night beating her with a whip while she was in the stocks.
Akiva had sincerely hoped that Lucas had murdered Hralib, but he told her that when he was at the Great Library, Hralib came in with Throgana and started having sex at midnight, so he snuck out with the few scrolls he had rescued. Akiva was with Lucas for the rest of the night, so if that's true, he couldn't have killed Hralib.
Round Three Conceal
Akiva is worried that Aylina might have killed Hralib after she heard his finger was missing, or worse went and saw his body and cut the finger off post mortem.
Round Three Props
Round Three Additional Goals
- Akiva is hunting for Hralib's missing finger, she's worried about Aylina's soul and her own too.
