Overview
Born in 20 A.U., Ania was born a princess, daughter of Prince Solgarik and Clan Leader Zeysani of the Eagle clan. The younger of two children, and no twin, she was sheltered from a young age from the public eye by a very concerned mother who apparently was terrified of her daughter being kidnapped like her older son Lianos. As a result, Ania has had a very luxurious but sheltered life and with an overwhelming idea of her own importance. Of course, being born a princess and now a clan leader... odds are the majority of Firans will agree with her.
But in spite of her privileged upbringing, Zeysani saw to it that her daughter was raised to become a clan leader, starting Ania's education from a very young age. This proved to be a smart decision when in 33 A.U. Zeysani found her death in the Hydra-Eagle war. Wise as ever however, the Eagle clan leader had not left until she had seen her daughter an adult and made it clear in her will that Ania was to be her successor, and that a regent was to be appointed for the Eagle clan until she had reached the age of 16.
For the next three years the Eagle clan was ruled by Ania's stepfather, Lord Donos Ista Aldrik, and later by the ever-popular Lady Regent High Priestess Nalia Iberik. Ania was appointed a clan proxy, allowing her to get a taste of what leading the clan was really like. By the time she turned 16 she was still as popular as ever and the Eagle clan threw a large party to celebrate her taking the Eagle clan medallion. A distant and cool leader, many compare her to her mother and it is said that Ania herself often tries to think of what Zeysani would have done before making a decision.
Family Life
Parents
Ania hardly knew her father, Prince Solgarik Elianik of the fabled Triumvirate. By the time she was old enough to remember things he had fallen into his long, long sleep from which he never woke up again, dying in 26 A.U. when Ania was but 6 years old.
As the daughter of a clan leader, Ania didn't see her mother nearly as often as she would have liked but Zeysani made sure to see her daughter as often as her duties would allow and saw to it that Ania was given the best possible care and education. To this day, Ania considers her mother her role model and strives to live up to Zeysani's heritage.
Siblings
Zaridos was the sibling she grew up with and the one and only person she had any regular contact with as a child. Although much wilder than the Ania, he served as one of Ania's proxies for several years, though ups and downs. Ania loved her brother fiercely, and when he dueled and killed Argin, when he was on the run she often messaged to beg him to turn himself over. People would be appeased if they had him, but he didn't, and their family paid the price for it. Mobs came and killed almost all of his children, save for Cersei who was in hiding elsewhere. Ania often says her brother had a good heart, and he did what he did because he believed it was for the best -- but that neither of the twin brothers had any kind of ability to envision the consequences of their actions BEFORE they caused chaos.
Lianos is Zaridos's twin who had been presumed kidnapped years ago, back when he was an infant. He turned up in Anarinuell as an adult, saying that Zeysani had spirited him away herself in order to keep him safe. That he had lived quietly far from the city. When her medallion was missing and Ania was sick, Lianos took it upon himself to have a faux medallion forged, and then later he claimed it was the real medallion and had chose him to lead. There was a civil war. It was the beginning of the end. And though Ania knows that he did this because he thought that he was protecting the clan, protecting her, he too was the victim of his own inability to envision consequences of his actions. He was imprisoned during the Democratic riots that followed and became ill. Though he was removed from jail to the family home, he never recovered and died months later. Ania blames herself. He did not have the same raising in the politics of the city that she and Zaridos had been afforded, he didn't understand what he did. She should have taught him better when he arrived. She should have taken the time.
Daranos is Ania's younger half-brother, Zeysani's children with Donos, who went to reside with the Ista Aldriks when Donos married into the family, though remained Istaneysani family. Daranos refuses to use the last name, preferring to be nameless like their mother, and Ania does not fuss at him over it. When he was a child, he was more like her own children to her... the age difference was so great. But now, especially in the wake of the tragedies, he's her rock. She relies on Daranos's help, when she gets overwhelmed and smothered beneath the weight of the world, Daranos's steadfast support helps lift the load. There is not much she would not do to protect her last living brother.
Nazina is Ania's youngest sibling. Technically a half-sister, youngest daughter of Zeysani and Donos. She too stayed with the Ista Aldriks while her father lived and was married to Lady Pia, but has since returned home as well. She was just a baby when Zeysani died, and when Ania took the reins of the clan, they came with a baby to raise. Ania views Nazina more as a daughter and less as a sister, and is very protective of Nazina as well. She wants the girl to have what Ania couldn't. She wants her to have happiness and adventure, she wants her to have friends outside the demands of politics. And she hopes this does not come back to bite them.
Ex-Husband
Ania and Rislan Elianik were married for several years. Their marriage was severed around he same time that he chose to become a Ticanee. Ania is rather open about the fact that he left her. He believed Thaddia's claims that Ania was having an affair with Banian, and divorced her because of it. She was inconsolable for months, and but now seems to have filled her heart with hate for him.
Children
Ania has had five children so far, four of whom she named after her mother. Her son Zeylan was born in June 38 A.U. Her daughter Zeynasi was born a year later, in June 39 A.U. A second daughter, Zeythri was born in May 41 A.U. Third daughter Zeyphora was born September 43 A.U. and shortly thereafter kidnapped, and remains missing. And a second son, Zanios, was born in January 48 A.U.
Accomplishments
First ever Elected Clan Leader
When the Eagle clan turned fully to Democracy in the wake of the Kinslayer riots, Ania made a speech saying that the Clan Leader position would be elected, and that if someone other than she won it, she would step down. She ran against Nestra and won the election, retaining her position and marking herself as the first clan leader to ever be selected by the will of the people.
Eagle Constitution
Formed a committee to draft a constitution, and saw the first Eagle Constitution ratified in May 07, 49 A.U.
The Istaneysani Family
On May 30, in the year 37 A.U., Ania declared that from that day forth, the royal Eagle family would take the name Istaneysani in honour of her late mother. The royal Eagles were the last of the royal families to take a family name, something Zeysani had always refused to do.
Allies
The Eagle Clan. Ania is a very popular clan leader who holds the respect and good will of her clansmen.
Clan Leader Banian IstaNydiam -- Her cousin, and an unpredictable spark of a man. He's handsome, but he's a rake. He's charming, and he's dangerous. He's flippant, but observant. And he put the Cockatrice navy to defend Lurashar during the many times the Hydran's threatened invasion via Arinzi. It's probably no wonder people believe they have had an affair, Ania did throw herself to the lions politically and socially to support his coup for Clan Leader.
Lord Proxy Aeryk IstaNydiam -- Her cousin, and a stalwart and dependable man. Ania would totally have tried to marry him if Sabiana had not beat her to it. Rawr.
Lord Olivander Ista Aldrik -- Ania is fond of the Lord, and may have shared a rather public kiss with the Lord in recent months. Who instigated the kiss is a matter of contention, depending upon who you ask.
Sien -- Steward for the Royal Eagle Family. He is dependable, he gets done what he says he will, and he is unfailingly loyal. Plus, he used to be a hunky bathboy and still remembers how to massage away the weight of the world from a woman's shoulders. At least temporarily.
Clan Leader Ojitar Firgalik -- Ania gets on remarkably well with Ojitar, even when she sometimes would like to punch Cortik in that empty eye socket when he starts being especially Cortiky.
Enemies
Hydrans. Amenik. The N'Gatos. All of them. --
- On the stabbing scale: Ania would not be sad if someone stabbed them, all of them, repeatedly, with something of only passable pointiness.
Clan Leader Torianos. He's exceedingly close to the Hydrans, and Ania neither trusts him nor cares for him.
- On the stabbing scale: Ania wouldn't be sad if someone stabbed Torianos with something somewhat pointy.
Ania has a strong dislike for Lady Teonia Elikista and openly describes the woman as a raving egomaniac. And there was that whole poisoning thing, which Ania still lays squarely at Teonia's feet. Though now that Teonia has married into the Elikista and is not in a position of authority in Ania's family or in any kind of control over the future of Ania's niece Cersei, Ania does not really care much about Teonia.
- On the stabbing scale: While Ania wouldn't really be sad if someone stabbed Teonia, or if someone gave Teonia a tasty pastry, she'd probably lean more toward the stabbing for the sake of symmetry if nothing else.
Rislan. The 'Ticanee Prince of Cheese' or 'Lord Stinky Weaselteets' when she's feeling particularly threatened or raw enough to throw up immature defense walls. Everyday she tells herself that he got what he deserved, that she is better off free of the man who slaughtered so many of her citizens and hated being with her. Everyday she tells herself she doesn't have to worry, he's crawled into a Ticanee Barn and no longer a concern. Some days she even believes it.
- On the stabbing scale: Ania would be happy if someone stabbed Rislan repeatedly with something of passable pointiness. Or at least that's what she'd tell everyone, and then hope someone stabbed them if they believed otherwise.
Uncertain
Thaddia is a very sore spot for Ania. They grew up together, and as adults had begun rebuilding a relationship that had fallen away somewhat as adult lives lead them in different directions. When Thaddia made the speech that led to the end of Ania's marriage, Ania was angry. She felt betrayed. In some respects, Ania counts Thaddia as her sorest loss during the Kinslayer wars. She misses her. She hurts when she thinks of Thaddia. But there is no resolution to be had. Her cousin, her friend... won't speak to her. Ania mourns for Thaddia.
Ellish
During the war season of 42 A.U., known by many as the Liberation of Ellish, Ania and Lucretia were kidnapped from Anarinuell, as part of a many-pronged attack by the Shamibelians. Luna, Tia, Selene, and Teonia were also targets, but they (and their guards) managed to fend off the Shamibelians. Lucretia was rescued by her son, Argin, and several weeks later, Lucas brought Ania back to Anarinuell. She spent quite a long time recuperating at the Eagle Mansion, though she did make appearances at two state funerals: that of her stepfather, First General Lord High Priest Donos Ista Aldrik, and also her uncle, former Clan Leader, Lord Nydiam IstaNydiam.
Scandals
The short-betrothal to Banian
Shortly after her mother's death, Ania's uncle Clan Leader Nydiam of the Cockatrice announced her betrothal to his son Banian, claiming it was what Zeysani would have wanted. Lord Viceroy Taleo immediately denied that any such betrothal had ever taken place or would ever happen and even made a few allusions to the Regime and the troubled history of the royal Cockatrice family, of which Ania is indeed a descendant.
Did she, or didn't she Diddle?
During the Kinslayer Wars, Thaddia accused her of having an affair with Banian, and claimed that her youngest child Zanios was Banian's son. Ania hotly contested it and called Thaddia to duel her over it, Thaddia did not answer and the people generally assume she was lying and looking for weapons to get her son Nydias back from Banian, from whom she had recently separated.
Supporting Banian against Drikkists
Ania is stymied how this could be viewed as a bad thing. She supported an 'opportunist' against a Drikkist Clan Leader, but people hold it against her so it must be a scandal of some sort. Perhaps it is that they did not believe the claims against Diamia. Ania is really clueless here.
Refusing Daliana
Lady Daliana N'Gato chose her brother Daranos with a marriage prize, and with the history of N'Gato and Hydran aggression against her family and clan, Ania has reacted strongly to the unwanted marriage. Daliana currently still resides with the N'Gato.
Losing the Medallion
During the final march on Ellish under Lord Donos's command, she and Lady Lucretia were kidnapped by Shamibelian spies in Anarinuell. Although she was rescued, the Eagle medallion was lost during this affair. While she is not necessarily to blame for this loss, some from the other clans see her as the one to lose the medallion. This is also one of the factors which inspired the Democracy movement of the Eagle clan.
