ANTONIUS

Mer Antonius of no last name (formerly Marcus) had been an esteemed man within the Chimera Clan. The Marcus family was the common branch of the noble Ista Barun family and was working to regain nobility, climbing the ranks to polish their tarnished name, with Antonius as head of the family. An impressive, affluent man, Antonius held ministry positions and rose to the rank of Captain in the First Division. He owned many plots of land and a large estate, as well as a shop in the Palace District. His children, all sons, seemed aware of the family's position and each attempted to work with their father to elevate their status from common to noble. They seemed to shun scandal as much as possible (the whore Delicia was Antonius' little spoken of sister) but could never seem to keep out of it. Antonius once broke Festival Peace and disrespected his Clan Leader -- which earned him fifteen lashes, a fine, and public apology. Still, the Chimera clan seemed to hold the Marcus man in high regard. Yet, Antonius and his family would never gain a noble status and the entire family was dissolved despite the repeated chances they were given.

In 39 A.U., however, a large-scale conspiracy against the Republic and the Chimera clan itself was uncovered. At its core was ex-Captain Antonius Marcus, head of the Marcus family. The forty-two year old man was revealed to have hatched a plot with Mer Nathim to overthrow royal families and slay the status quo by installing Prince Avahlon Elianik by force to the throne. The treasonous plot was unraveled by authorities before it could take off and a massive jailing occurred. During the questioning, it came to light that Antonius and Nathim obtained permits to work on Republic land to keep their organization secret, stole ballistas which they were planning to fire into the city, as well as lure medallion holders out of the city and murder them after a "trial." Their goal was to re-enact the trial held by the Lanesh on Firgalas in Caldera City. To facilitate these needs, Antonius gathered men and women who were disgruntled with current leadership of the Republic, beguiling them with false pretenses and embroiling them in something much larger than themselves. Both Antonius and Nathim were convicted as traitors and killed in June of 39 A.U. with no option for quarter.

With the plot revealed, the Republic also decreed that the family of Antonius Marcus was not innocent in the matter. The family's poor reputation -- with the public and private misdeeds of Antonius -- and inability to ascend to nobility after repeated chances via Clan Leader Inaya came back to haunt them. Given that Antonius spoke extensively about his plan and held meetings in his home, the family was also sentenced to die if they did not ask for quarter. All the Marcus land, possessions, the estate, everything was deemed property of the Republic save the clothing on the backs of those who requested quarter. Such was the end of the Marcus family and Antonius Marcus himself.
