Overview

A charming young man whom is a Hydran proper, and desires to be a Warrior one day. Due to this, he follows the Code to a T. In turn, though, he is fascinated how things work and are put together, which gets him into all sorts of interesting situations. Naturally, do to his main attribute, he thoroughly enjoys his job as a carpenter.

Early History

Pardon! I didn't hear you come in over the banging! I'm working as a carpenter -- that's what I decided to be after I had my Ceremony. Of course, I knew I would be a carpenter. Just like my father, my real father, Hugannelli. I know, some people say he wasn't really my father, but he was my mother's husband and he called me his son and that's all that's really important, right? My mother wasn't exactly a good mother, I guess. She tried, but she liked men more than she liked anything else, even her children. And more than her husbands. Women are strange and forget things, I suppose. I've noticed it though. I notice a lot of things. And my mother had a lot of husbands to forget! My father, Hugannelli, for one. And then after that there was Darus, who was really nice and was going to be my next father, but he left without reason. Then all the children, my elder sisters and my younger sister and brother, were sent to live with Aunt Aleria and Uncle Seriss. Uncle Seriss was condemned and killed on the Stone of Redemption, so it was off to Aunt Quiranda and Uncle Symeon -- lots of instability, lots of different houses.

Anyway, now I am a carpenter like my father! I can take things apart and put them back together. Sometimes I just like to take things apart! I'm learning a lot, because I watch everything and want to know how everything works because it's really amazing! Maybe I can be an engineer and design things as well as build them, too.

I also am going to be a Warrior. I mean, I am mostly going to be a carpenter, but also a Warrior because Hydran men are strong and need to be real Warriors to defend our clan from the goats and also the pagans. I am going to be a /real/ Warrior and follow the code properly. I need to because since my father died, I am the oldest man in my family, among my siblings I mean. I have to take care of my sisters and make sure nothing bad happens to them, and teach my brother to be big and strong, too. I don't let anyone pick on them or say bad things about them, not even about Perle. I am going to make sure that we don't get moved around anymore, and that Perle and Mazel get good husbands, and that Rodarius becomes a real warrior, and then everything will be fine. And I'll get to build stuff all the time. And when I have lots of strong Warrior sons, I will never let my wife abandon me and them, not for anything in the world -- especially not another man.

Personality & Beliefs

He is a firm Monotheistic Zutivian like all Hydrans. For his personality, he is inquisitive, especially about things. He always wants to know how something works, what's going on inside, how it goes together. He's the kind of person who got in trouble as a child for taking apart the butter churn to see how it worked, and being more upset at the fact that he didn't get any real answers than the punishment he got for doing it in the first place. He understands things and how they work a lot better than people, and sometimes thinks that if only people went together like cabinetry he'd be a lot happier. Women especially confuse him because they never seem to say what they mean. He's very earnest and good-hearted, but oddly guarded, like he'll get to know a person only so well and not any closer. Still, he's charming and sincere, and a man of his word. He takes loyalty and honor extremely seriously, and if he thinks someone has betrayed a promise they are immediately as good as dead to him.

Family Life

Mother: Dantana Aspalathos loves his mother very much, and has fond memories of a time many years ago when he lived with her and she laughed and played with him and treated him so special and perfect and wonderful. But that was a long time ago. He's confused by how Dantana lives, seeming to constantly be in trouble even though she knows not to do the things she does. He was taken from her and sent to live with other people for most of his childhood, and many people tell him very often that she was a terrible person. Some people have told him lately that his mother is acting good again and even seems to have reformed, but he's not sure what to believe anymore. Sometimes he wonders if there's anything he could have done to keep her from messing up and losing him and his siblings.

Father: Hugannelli Hugannelli was probably not technically Aspalathos's real father, everybody knows that, but Hugannelli accepted Apsalathos as his own and loved him. It is because of Hugannelli that Aspalathos came to love carpentry so much, and Aspalathos gets very belligerent with people who try to claim that Hugannelli isn't his father.

Siblings

Sibling: Joie. Joie is Aspalathos's oldest sister. Someone said she was adopted once, but Aspalathos isn't sure if that's true or not. Certainly their never seems to mention it, and nobody else does, so it can't be right. In any case, Aspalathos is always careful to be on his absolute best behaviour around Joie. She may be just his sister, but she can go into a tizzy if you even think about doing something wrong. He would sometimes get annoyed with Joie, because of her condescending and acts like it's cute that he tries to be protective of her and stuff. He's the man of their little family and she should respect that! Joie went and got married to Zateen and became a Mageeran. She has a baby now, even. Her husband died at war, which is a good way to die if you have to, but he left behind a very sad Joie. Aspalathos still considers it his duty to look after and protect his big sister, even if she's technically in someone else's family now, and even more so now that she's a widow. She has remarried to Dryphus, remaining in the Mageeran family.

Sibling: Perle. Perle is Aspalathos's second older sister. She is definitely more in need of protection than Joie is. Perle is a little bit... wild. It's bad, Aspalathos is afraid she's going to do something -really- bad and end up like their mother, or worse, like Aunt Omnesti. Aspalathos really steps up his commanding Man Of The Family-ness with her, but it doesn't work. It's very frustrating. He figures it will be easier to keep her in line when he's a grownup, though, and married off!

Sibling: Rodarius. Rodarius is the other man in the little sibling-group of a family. He's incessantly curious and sometimes seems a little (gasp) floofy. Aspalathos tries to make sure he turns out manly. In most things, though, Rodarius and Aspalathos are as thick as thieves, with Aspalathos taking the lead and Rodarius following right along behind. It's great to have a brother!

Sibling: Mazel. Sometimes Aspalathos feels sorry for Mazel, his youngest sister. She never really knew their mother at all because Dantana has been forbidden to see her since right after she was born. And Perle and Joie are super close because they've been together forever, and he has Rodarius, but Mazel is kinda left out. Still, what exactly is he supposed to do about it? She's a girl, after all. He -might- let her harass him a little bit more than he lets other girls (according to the warrior code!), and he -might- exaggerate how much he found her annoying to make her feel like she's getting to him properly. And maybe he makes himself available for appropriate younger sister harassment a little more than is strictly necessary. Not that he'd ever admit it, of course.

Sibling: Rinisti. One of Aspalathos' younger siblings, Rinisti is still very young. She's a loud and chatty little thing, which could be problematic when she gets older, and so Aspalathos is protective of her. However, being that she's so young and so adorable, he's convinced that she can't get into too much trouble. Yet. He'll just have to watch out for her as she gets older.

Sibling: Vesna. Yet another one of Aspalathos' sisters, Vesna is the youngest. As such, he doesn't pay her much mind at all - she's so small and so young that she couldn't /possibly/ get into trouble. He focuses more on his older siblings now, though he intends to keep a closer eye on Vesna as she grows older.

Sibling: Kefir. His youngest brother, Kefir was adopted by Dantana and Panisto shortly after he was born. While Aspalathos doesn't know much of the details, he knows that both of Kefir's real parents are dead, and that makes him a little extra-protective of the boy. Still, he's so young that the chances of him getting in trouble are slim, so he doesn't need to be watched /too/ closely just yet

Enemies

  • Ryus: Ryus Anizut is a Hydran, but he's no Warrior. Aspalathos hates this man completely. He hates him because he's not good about following the code, hates him because he's out of shape and clumsy, hates him because he smells funny, he even hates him because he was always older and got to be an adult sooner. Most of all, Aspalathos hates Ryus because one time several years back, Aspalathos caught Ryus watching Joie. He was just watching her carry some laundry from one place to another, but Aspalathos' overprotective brother instincts kicked in and he let loose and had to beat the older man up for even -thinking- about looking at his sister. Ryus, of course, claims that he wasn't doing anything of the sort, and boy did both of them get in trouble for brawling... but it made Aspalathos pleased as punch to see the massive shiner he left on Ryus which took weeks to fade. Aspalathos will take any opportunity to get at Ryus, the squirmy wormy non-Warrior slime.

Allies

  • Nas: Nas Anizut is Aspalathos's best friend. He also happens to be Ryus's cousin. A few days after Aspalathos and Ryus had their first brawl, Nas caught up with Aspalathos in an alley and jumped on him. The two got into a pretty good brawl, and nobody interfered so they just kept wailing on each other until they both got tired. Lying there in the alleyway, bleeding from various wounds, the two boys developed a grudging respect for one another. They got to talking and realized they had a fair amount in common, and ended up getting cleaned up and going to hang out and compare brawling techniques. Ever since then they've been fast friends. They try to avoid talking about Ryus, though -- Aspalathos has to respect family ties, after all, and he knows that Nas knows his cousin is a lilly-livered worm, so there's no reason to belabor the point.
