AZARUS JUNIK

Lord Azarus Junik had two brothers: Guvell, who is married to Lady Idra, and Covis, who is now deceased. Azarus was the head of the Junik family for many years. He met his wife Pura during the Great War and married her even though she was not a noblewoman. They lived in Cirusuran until their divorce and had three children, Yosef, Maya, and Olena. After the divorce, Azarus was estranged from them for many years.

In February 18 A.U., Azarus was accused of sullying the honor of Clan Leader Judano's niece, Arcadia, and lying under oath about it. The Junik Mansion was struck by lightening one night and as it burned to the ground, a ray of light shone from the sky, directly upon Azarus. This was taken as proof of his blame, and it was believed that the fire was punishment from Zutiv. Judano stripped Azarus of his land and his title as head of the Junik family, turning both over to Zafir, a military man who had recently earned noble status. Azarus was to regain his land and title only when Judano deemed him sufficiently repentant.

All this was complicated by the unlikely demise of Judano. The clan council declared Jalil was to be the next leader of the Gold Dragon Clan. This sparked a civil war among the clan and Azarus sided with Prince Solgarik against Jalil. He was caught trying to make an escape to Istagadin atop Ozer Firgalik's griffon. He was knocked from his griffon, but cheated death when Ozer made a rather heroic dive. Azarus was thrown into the trees, breaking his back rather than falling to his death. Clan Leader Jalil offered Azarus a chance to save his life by swearing an oath of loyalty to Jalil, but Azarus refused. Just before the civil war, Azarus's three grown children made the journey to Anarinuell to be with him after their mother's death. They were left in Lord Zafir's care after the Clan Leader ordered Azarus executed by hanging.
