Overview
Balinda is a middle-aged woman with a charming smile, but there's a strength of personality to her that seems to declare that she's a force with which to be reckoned. She has a keen intelligence which shines in her eyes. Her body is enough that it could easily catch the attention of any man, though she carries herself with a certain grace that suggests she's the epitome of propriety.
Childhood
Balinda was raised as the very proper grandchild of Sir Vasyklo, the first Sharanir of the Chimera Clan. Her early childhood was not care-free however but burdened with family scandals, fear of poisoning, lingering unease and distrust rooted in vague memories of the Dream and of the pain and suffering from injuries of the 24 AU air raids when she survived being struck three times by falling griffons. Seeing the pain the scandals caused her beloved family and overhearing how much risk such scandals brought to everyone she loved made Balinda commit herself to the effort of never bringing more down on the heads of her family, no matter the cost to herself.
A vision of the past about fire and twins was shared by most residents of Anarinuell. Clan Leader Inaya spoke with her, trying to comfort Bali when frightened by the vision. Bali's manners and intelligent questions caught the attention of the Clan Leader enough that Inaya hired her at age 12 to run errands and personally supervised Bali's education, hiring Mes Ezarette to train her. As time passed and Balinda became adult, her employment became full time as a Lady in Waiting and as nanny and teacher for Torianos and Thaddia, Inaya's children. During some of her classes in Etiquette she wrote several scrolls about the topic, two still in the Great Library.
Early Adulthood
By the time she was fifteen, Inaya had decided she preferred one highly trained family servant to many who came and went and expanded Bali's training to fill that role easing her into managing the daily running of the compound, serving as everything from scribe to poison taster. She had Balinda trained to protect Torianos and Thaddia while they were in her care. A prank by young Torianos had Bali greeting Inaya in Ticanee with 'Your goat has yellow teeth' instead of 'good morning, Your Honor.' The prank outcome was Inaya arranging Ticanee language and archery lessons from General Ghali for Bali. Ghali's lessons led to she and Bali jointly creating songs that covered basic vocabulary needed (Ten Singing wolves, Ready to be Sold, Market Song, Lost and Found, Half Remembered).
In 29 AU Bali was sent to accompany Princess Selene, Prince Sadin, Dame Urtenia and a small group of others on the 'Trail of The Beast', going to seek out a home in a tall maple tree the other side of Corlut where Lord Elik, the diety married to Princess Selene, lived at that time. A journal record of the trip is in the Great Library.
Vasyklo had hopes of a noble marriage for Balinda. Lord Marsalos had developed a liking for Balinda and suggested her to Lord Trachi as a possible wife. While Trachi seemed interested, Lady Yasha told Vasyklo, 'no, never into the Iberik family' and promptly betrothed Elif to Balinda. While Elif and Balinda were friends, Elif had hopes of marrying another and could not bring himself to court Balinda or set a marriage date...so the betrothal dragged on untill it was finally set aside and broken, neither Elif nor Balinda having hard feelings toward each other.
In time Sir Vasyklo set up an arranged marriage to Captain Vellik of the First, who married into the Garkansan family. Less than two weeks after the marriage, he shipped off to war...and a mater of weeks later became a prisoner of the Shamibelians. Balinda bore him a daughter, Levana, who he never saw, never knew about. Bali followed his wishes and after waiting four years for him to return, she divorced him and remarried but always honored his memory and made sure his child knew who her father was. She took in and raised Vellik's four siblings to adulthood when their father was given a long prison term. In the war of 42 AU Shamibelians executed Vellik while Balinda watched.
Ronti was Balnda's second husband, an older man who was not in the prime of health yet the two clearly have romance and friendship tying them together and produced four more children.
Recent History
Balinda worked for the leadership of Chimeran Clan for over 18 years, Torianos picking up her services after Inaya stepped down as Clan leader. Her education continued, instructors fees paid by her employers and associated fees covered even to the point of hiring a nanny for her children that she could study and work more efficiently for the clan.
Torianos gave her leave to study more healing and practice the skills till she became a legendary healer. He sends her out to assist the military, help in epidemics, and to heal others as a symbol of good will and cooperation between clans, paying for her healing supplies and help with her children. He let a group of healers Balinda loosely organized meet in the Chimera Academy and over the course of several years, they jointly wrote some educational scrolls about healing, the Healer's guide. Copies of this are in the Great Library.
Torianos made Balinda his Sharani because of her years of service and her risking her life protecting them on more than one occasion. This was remarkable because that made not one but two individuals of the Garkansen family so recognized, Alessandro, son of Vasyklo and a Gold Dragon, become a third Sharinar from this same family in late 42 AU, three generations of Sharinars.
