Overview
Although lean and wiry in his youth, this man fills out his form more solidly now. He has perfectly proportioned features and flawless skin that is almost feminine in nature were it not for the Drik-may-care smirk and flashing grin. His wild red curls have been tamed to a degree although his locks tend to flop into his eyes when he lets them grow out too long. He walks with a lazy strut, as if, even in the dead of winter, it were too hot out to put much effort into it.
He likes to drink hard, he likes to party hard. He is an avid explorer and adventurer, although he doesn't brag about it. He enjoys mysteries and delves into heavy reading and research. He isn't above taking a risk if there is a chance for a good outcome. . . Or just for fun. Think: Paris Hilton as a man with a sword and a sense of adventure.
Banian, Artist and Adventurer

Family Life
Siblings
Diamia: Diamia is Banian's older sister. She's the Clan Leader, a position that Banian sort of hoped for when he was younger. When they were children, Banian tortured her mercilessly, killing her dolls and stuff like that. Now? He's more subtle, doing things like bribing Diamia's first born daughter Anais (his favourite niece) to SQUEAL all the time. Over time he grew more and more distant from his sister before finally, in the wake of the Kinslayer War, he declared that his sister was a Drikkist and Rikon her husband was the Son of Drik himself. A civil war was begun, which ended with a duel between sister and brother.
Aeryk: Probably his best friend. Banian and Aeryk may disagree from time to time (cockfights? Ibania? Sore subjects), but they tend to keep it in private. Banian would do anything to help his brother, and tends to see him as he did when they children; Aeryk used to be his shadow. Nowadays, Aeryk is more of a sounding board for the things that Banian knows he can't say in public. Still, they tend to be rather hard to separate, with Banian going so far as to win a marriage prize for Aeryk to wed his love, Lady Sabiana Ista Aldrik. Or, they did. After the Kinslayer War and the death of Diamia, Aeryk and Banian have been seen around each other much less.
Cecilia: Well. She's really only his half-sister, being Lucretia-spawn. But whatever. He doesn't pay her much attention, but when she asks for something, he tends to buy it for her. It's how Banian deals with children that are related to him. Now that she's grown up, it's odd. He sort of likes her, and he certainly finds her easy to talk to. Since then she's become an Oshta with a marriage to Lord Octavian, but they remain closer than any other two siblings in their family tree.

Accomplishments
Judge for a Day
Lord Banian was made a Republic Judge. It was fantastic, until he made his first judgment. He made quite a few enemies that day, and Lord Banian is no longer a Judge. Funny that.
Republic Military - Captain
Prince Captain Minister Overseer Initiate Baniak Elianik nee IstaNydiam. Formerly of Hawk Squad, formerly of Charlie Company, now in Intelligence.
Cockatrice District Overseer
Lord Banian's so far greatest accomplishment politically is becoming the Cockatrice District Overseer. He looks after the sanitation, orderliness, construction and building, security, beautification (stop your laughing) and generally is the person you see if you want or need anything in the district. He's had it since January 41 AU. So far, the longest position he's held!
The Royal Aerval Adventure Company
A group once dedicated to adventuring across the lands. . . Banian plans on kicking it back into gear. Eventually.
Betrothed to Princess Thaddia
Princess Thaddia Elianik is the woman whom Lord Centurion Overseer Banian IstaNydiam will marry. Banian is resigned to this, though he puts on a brave face for the 'little people' that get to be inspired by their, er, fairy tale romance.
The Winter Solstice Festivals of 41 AU
The city was his playground, and with it, Lord Banian and Princess Thaddia held spectacular events throughout the month of January in respect for the Winter Solstice. It was enjoyed by many, and showed the capabilities of the Cockatrice Lord in organizing things.
Retaking of Ellish in 42 AU
Banian was awesome! Just ask him, he juggled six lightning bolts and ate them before crash landing into a group of Obalan Priests. . . Although some other people actually confirm the latter rumour. He also saved Thaddia's life three times, and is prone to bringing it up and reminding her about it.
Palace District Overseer
Not content with just ONE District to overseer, Prince Banian is put into the Ministerial position of overseeing the Palace District. He's done well so far, cleaning up after riots, cleaning up after t'rages, opening up old shops and rerenting others. Nobody major has died yet!
Republic Commander
Prince Argin Elianik raised him to Commander of the Infantry; just a scant year before he would have been commanding in Ellish. Then, the Kinslayer War erupted and Banian left the military.
Banian's Run
Legendary Swordsman
Working on his style and speed, focusing on aggression more than defense, Banian has become known as something of a legend with the sword. Still, he has many years to go to reach the ranks alongside, say, Zafir or Atreides, though he's said to be working on a lightning-fast flurry of sword strikes.
Coronation
On November 20, 49 AU, Lord Proxy Banian IstaNydiam was coronated and the reign of His Honour Clan Leader Banian IstaNydiam the Red, Golden Kraken of the Cockatrice, began. It's sure to be very peaceful, according to Banian:
'"'Long has the Cockatrice Clan been steeped in tradition; tradition of excellence, of hospitality, of heroism and courage, valour and wisdom, of hearth and home. Marriage, noblesse oblige; the simply idea that a Clan can assure its commonfolk that not a single citizen will go through life without support by their noble sponsors, that said nobility will do as they are present to do, and guide, protect, and even serve those that support us as models and leaders. Tradition of legends; it is, after all, on my masterful and unmatched skill with a sword as well as my blood, love for my clan, and right of purpose that I hold the medallion now, quicker with cold iron in my hand than an arrow shot from a bowstring or a lightning bolt splitting through the dark sky, and though that blade rests now any threat to clan, justice, or family will quicken it from its slumber to feast macabre.
But it is now that I must be proficient in other avenues. Thought, and compassion. Deft of heart, of word; skilled at defense of my people, of justice for even the most base pleb. My sister's sacrifice is one that I shall ever remember, a memory of the girl I once loved and the caring sibling that I knew when I was younger; it shall not go to waste. As my brother said, there is a pall over my coronation, one of sadness and tragedy, but with a grand and unfolding silver lining of hope. . . For peace and justice, for unity, for a Cockatrice renaissance both inter and intra clan.
I have fought side-by-side with many of you, bled with nearly as many. Supped and gamed with soldiers, civilians, farmers, entertainers, pirates and sailors. With that spirit in mind, my throne room is now, and forever shall remain, open to all, that any might bring problems and hopes, dreams and goals to the ear and attention of the royal family.
I accept the bequest of the medallion and my ancestors, and accept the mantle of Clan Leader. Long live the Cockatrice, and long live a new day for the people, a day of tradition of rights for the commonfolk, of caring leadership, of meritorious promotion and of breaking down the barriers between all men and women. For in the end, we are all Firans, and Fate is inexorable. Let us fulfill our destinies of greatness, in the eyes of Gods and our fellow Firans alike, choosing good over ill, swift justice over indifference, compassion over war, patience over impulse, and taking the time to not judge, but instead gently remind our friends and enemies alike when they misstep."
Allies
- Cecilia -- Half-sister. Sound advice is always to be sought ought from his younger sister.
- Iberik family -- Allowed to keep their nobility through a clan change to the Cockatrice
- Ania -- Cousins, once betrothed, they've remained close despite unfounded rumours of philandering
- Taleena -- Both have a decided interest in Clan Unity
- Cortik -- An unlikely ally. They've been across the battlefield from each other and side-by-side, but through over a decade of acquaintanceship has sprouted a stout friendship
Enemies
- Tanosa. Yes, Tanosa. The Temple Owl. Banian watched Tanosa fly down on Aeryk's head like a bajillion times, but when it came time for Banian to feed the owl some meat, everything went south. Banian ended up getting bored with the supposed center of attention. If there's one thing a male Paris Hilton with a sword can't take? It's a female owl Paris Hilton, apparently. What-ev-er!
- Rikon - After the death of Diamia, Rikon seceded with 500 men and seems to have lost his touch with his mortal side. He does not like Banian, either.
Scandals
Judge for a Day
Lord Banian thought he knew law. He was wrong. Law isn't about Right or Justice. It is about Politics. A lesson well learned! Even if learned the hard way. It made Banian very depressed for awhile when he made so many people he respected upset at him
Taleo made the following judgment on Firan time: 12:00:58 PM on Fri Oct 11, in the year 40 A.U.: Lord Banian IstaNydiam made a judgment against the First Division in his acquittal of Mer Dalinuel of the Bear Clan. The First Division has laid many charges of tresspassing on those that moved beyond barriers that were clearly marked denying entry. For those that do not read, these signs are certainly expressive enough that anyone with common sense would indeed not enter. But by habit or gross ignorance, Republic citizens have been entering the cordoned of area, an area that poses serious personal risk. The First Division does not have a thousand guards to spare to ensure that people obey simple "Do not enter" signs. Lord Banian's assumption that the First Division was somehow responsible is grossly incorrect. On these grounds I am overruling Lord Banian's judgment on all counts, in both Mer Dalineul's innocence and in the fines he has laid against the First Division. A single judge will be assigned all the trespassing trials at the appropriate time, and a judgment will be passed then.%r%rLord Banian IstaNydiam was a judge in his first trial, and so I would normally not hold such mistakes against him. We expect those that hold such honored positions to learn from their mistakes. Instead of following the direction of Prince Argin, whom was acting in his position as Deputy Viceroy, Lord Banian flat-out refused the guidance given and further insulted the institution of the Republic. This, over a man whom was caught trespassing. I can't say that this follows the behavior of a rational person. This is also not proper behavior for a man that is currently courting Princess Thaddia, an arrangement the Republic will need to review with the Cockatrice Clan.%r%rLord Banian IstaNydiam is fined two million stenis for flatly disobeying Prince Deputy Viceroy Argin Elianik, and a further two million stenis for not properly respecting his position as Republic Judge. He is, of course, fired. %r%rThe First Division is thanked for their patience in this matter. And for future notice, a Republic Judge does not have the powers to find the First Division guilty of a crime for doing their jobs. Should there be an issues in the way the First Division conducts itself, this matter is to be brought up to the Minister of Justice for review.
The Swim
Details are sketchy - was he pushed in? Did he fall in drunk? Did he jump in? What in Aerval happened? All that is known is that Lord Banian emerged after two people rescued him. He doesn't like talking about it.
Execution Party
Alright, so this wasn't HIS party, but Lord Banian held a party in the IstaNydiam Palace. A lot of people were there, and it was going absolutely brilliant! That is, until his sister, Diamia came in. That's when everyone found out Banian's full name, as Diamia yelled out, "LORD BANIAN ZARID BANNOS ISTANYDIAM!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!" It's bad when your mother calls your name out - it's worse when your sister is doing it, and she holds the bling! She then made it an Execution Party if people didn't vacate within ten seconds. People left.
Prince Banian?
Banian's marriage to Princess Thaddia Elianik was an interesting affair, with Elik showing favour (or at least acceptance) by bestowing Banian with a FLOOFY CROWN OF DAISIES. It was interesting to note that there was some conflict after the marriage on whether or not he was a Prince. Banian set it to rights, however, saying in essence that "I don't want to be Ranivor, I just want to do what I want to do. I was born with that permission, and you might as well call me Prince as an honourific, just not in the sense of the classic Clan Council definition of Prince." . . . So, since THAT was all cleared up, everything's been clean sailing for Prince (sometimes Lord, sometimes Lord Prince) Banian Elianik.
La-- /Former/ Lady Nilara?
Allegedly, Banian and Nilara had a brief affair. It might not have been so bad, but /allegedly/ it happened two days before her wedding to Lord Aldrin Ista Aldrik. So, well, it was bad. She's a Dove, and he spent months wearing linen and dueling and all sorts of things, until he rescued Lurashar and Unotran and people forgot about it. C'est la vie!
Kinslaying: The Death of Clan Leader Diamia
During the The Kinslayer War, Banian declared that his sister was a Drikkist and a soul-murderer, and had sold her soul to Drik. Her husband Lord Rikon IstaNydiam was the son of Drik, and coinciding this was Rikon's sponsoree Anorna Pelista being accused by High Priestess Chelona of being the High Priestess of Drik. The latter was confirmed, and the former two are still hotly debated. Civil war had begun. When Lord Banian IstaNydiam journeyed to a deserted field near Unotran, he expected to meet and negotiate with his brother in law, Lord Rikon. Much to his surprise and dismay, the figure who instead came to meet him was his own sister, Clan Leader Diamia of the Cockatrice Clan, seeking to defend her medallion and throne with her life. A terrible battle ensued, brother against sister, and Banian emerged the injured and grieving victor. Clan Leader Diamia passed into Unot's embrace as the sun set over the field.
Kinsexing? Thaddia tells all
During the Cockatrice civil war in which Banian and Diamia fought in a single duel, Lady Thaddia Elikista spoke up and announced that unnamed witnesses fearing for their lives had sworn to her that Banian was involved in sexual couplings with his cousin and once betrothed, Clan Leader Ania Istaneysani. She also called for the return of Banian and Thaddia's son in the same speech. Ania later offered to duel Thaddia over the insult, to which there was no return. The populace generally assume that Thaddia, unable to back up her words with action or proof, was simply trying to provoke a reaction in the custody battle with Lord Banian.
Divorce #1
The generally expected separation of Lady Thaddia and Clan Leader Banian is still a bit of scandal. Perhaps, people are most disappointed that there won't be any more tabloid worthy duels or hair pulling. Currently, the future of the Cockatrice Clan seems to suggest that the partial Chimera line will be the clan heir. However, time could change that and people expect that Lord Aeryk will bring in some possible heirs by Lady Sabiana. More so, Lord Nydias might have to contend the most with Lord Rikon's vengeance in the future.
