Bannos, Zeysani, and Vahlon exchange thoughts
From FiranMUX
Bannos, Zeysani and Vahlon have an interesting exchange of thoughts
Bannos enters the room with his usual grace and demure economy of action. A few of his clan nod to him, showing less deference than those of other clans present, more used to his personal style than the foreigners. He moves with a certain surety each step seemingly considered before being planted, as he does so a sardonic eyebrow quirks upwards at the cry and exuberant dance breaks out unexpectedly.
Zeysani continues to sip at her tea, enjoying the less crowded pavillion as the people flock to the pentathalon.
Vahlon comes into the pavillion from outside.
Vahlon comes into the pavillion, spear in hand, looking slightly less then plaeased as he moves over to the table laden with food. He looks at it with disgust and then shakes his head, turninb back to the rest of the tent.
Zeysani relaxes on one of the couches, five or so guards close by.
Vahlon nods to Zeysani and offers a bow to Bannos, "Honorable Clan Leader." He says respectfully.
Bannos smirks at the collection of metal encased Eagle clan members surrounding the princess. With a light step and a glint in his eye he makes his way along the edge of the pavillion, seemingly approaching the collection with a nonchalent air about himself, drawing closer and closer to the bodyguards, his own trailing some distance behind after the brief words he exchanged with them.
Vahlon deiceds, seeing no Ticanee presently around he might as well try for the next best thing, and makes his way towards the women that is in the family which he has married into, though she is firan and married into thta family herself.
Bannos turns and nods his head towards Vahlon, glancing back at Zeysani and then curtailing the mirthful approach he was making towards her, he steps back towards the guards in his own Royal colours, then makes his way over to the food table where he collects a drink for each of them, passing them out himself.
Vahlon pauses, he didn't mean to frighten the man off, he stops a short way from Zeysani glancing over at Bannos before he turns back to her and offers a traditional greeting in Ticanee, before swithcing back to firan, "The pavillion is very quiet." He comments.
Zeysani looks about the pavillion and spots the clan leader. She watches him thoughtfully for a moment, checking to see if he is remaining in the pavillion or not.
Zeysani looks up, smiling faintly as Vahlon approaches and speaks to her. "Greetings." she murmers in Ticanee before continuing in firan, looking over the pavillion. "I believe many are at the pentathalon."
Vahlon nods, "That would makes sense." He says, he notices her glance towards Bannos as he sits down on the arm of the chair a momment, "Am I intterupting something?" He asks, quietly, "I just wandered in becasue I cannont seem to find Jalil. The coward is hiding and he owes me a duel."
Zeysani blinks in surprise, not sure if she heard correctly. "You are dueling with Jalil? Whatever for?"
Vahlon shakes his head, "He has done nothing but insult me for a long time. The duel was arranged at his brother's corrination to be held after the festival, but he never has followed through on it, and now he insualted me at the trial. By making a threat. I will not let that stand."
Zeysani's brows arch up sharply. "A threat? What threat?"
Vahlon nods, "He threated to assult me with my own spear." He says seriously.
Zeysani sets her cup down on a nearby table and turns her gaze to Vahlon, waiting to hear all this. She gasps lightly as the man continues his explanation. "And this was allowed?"
Vahlon nods, "He is a Clan Leader." He says, "They can say what they want there. But he is also a man, and I will call him out for this insualt."
Zeysani asks quietly, "But will he accept your challenge?"
Bannos stands chatting with his guards, one of them casting shy glances at a young maid placed firmy beside what looks to be her mother, the other guards nudging the more youthful one until Bannos' raised eyebrow quiets them a little.
Vahlon shrugs his shoulders, "If he does not then it will show what a coward he is to the whole world." He shakes his head, "I do not think that he is brave enough not to fight. He has no honor but he would not want every one to know about it."
Zeysani points out, "But if no one knows you are challenging him, they are certainly not going to know he is avoiding you."
Vahlon shakes his head, "If he denies me when we speak in person, then they will know." He says, "I will call him out from the center of the marketplace."
Vahlon isn't being particularly quiet at the momment, there isn't really a commonly used word for subtle in Ticanee.
Zeysani just looks at Vahlon, her violet eyes wide. "So you are seeking him out to demand satisfaction for his insult? -Why- did he threat to assault you with your own spear in the first place?"
Vahlon shakes his head, "I do not know." He says, "He and I have had bad blood between us for a long time."
Zeysani leans back against the couch, looking at the man appraisingly. "He threats you and you do not know why?"
Vahlon shakes his head, "He threatens me becasue he does not like me. And I do not like him becasue he corrupts eveything that he touches."
Bannos makes his way, with a smooth alacrity of motion towards Vahlon and Zeysani, nodding to the guards as he does so, a very faint smile gracing his lips. "Excuse me for interrupting you both, but did I hear quite right from my place over there?"
Zeysani is certainly not going to argue with Vahlon about that. She turns as Bannos approaches, bowing her head respectfully to the man.
Zeysani says, "Greetings your Honor."
Vahlon looks up as Bannos come over and he ofers a smile to the man, appearantly glad to see him, "That depends on what you heard most honorable friend of my father." He syas.
Bannos says, "Well something about you challenging Clan Leader Jalil, and accusing him of being a coward and a dishonourable man, that was I believe the gist of what I heard, would I be correct?"
Zeysani mentally goes through the list, deciding Bannos has touched upon the main highlights of the conversation.
Vahlon nods, "That would be what I said, your honor." He says respectfully, though he watchs the man with a bit of concern now, not exactly sure how he is going to respond to this, but still he should be safe, Bannos isa friend after all.
Bannos nods his head slowly "Right...this would be...Jalil...Judano's son and heir. The same person you had words with in this very pavillion at the last festival. The one who had words with you during the trial..words from his position as judge which you have chosen to take offence at?"
Zeysani reclaims her tea, lifting the cup to her lips as Bannos speaks to Vahlon.
Vahlon nods, "And the same person that has taken every opportunity he has been able to to insualt me, attack me, or stage an assualt upon my honor." He says, "The man comes from a good line, Clan Leader Judano was a man for whom I have much respect, but his son is not, he has not even attempted to earn it, instead he has destroyed that which his father created."
Bannos ahhs. "Right, I see, this would be...Jalil my.....nephew?" The words softly spoken, the same fixed smile upon his lips, sardonic tint curving a corner upwards.
Vahlon turns towards the man, and then shrugs, "I will take your word on that." He says, "All of the Firans seem to be related some how, I can not keep track of it."
Zeysani sits up a little straighter on her couch. She never realized Vahlon's thoughts on Jalil, but they are more than clear now. She glances at Bannos and notes his demeaner. Ut-oh, it might be a good time to remain quiet. She sips at her tea.
Vahlon is not being hostile towards Bannos at the momment, atleast not with tone or intention. In fact for the Ticanee he is really very calm.
The glow of Zutiv's light starts to warm the dark skies.
Bannos says, "Now, just to look at a couple of issues here. Firstly on the subject of cowardice. I must say i'm not quite familiar with the definition of the word if it is extended to someone who has received high honours from the republic for their actions on the battlefields, someone who fought to save your own wife afterall, and someone who did afterall, painful as this might be for the present company, just defend their title? Ohh and it's not all that difficult Vahlon, you see I'm Elianos' brother and that made Judano my brother as well, Jalil is Judano's son and therefore my nephew. I'd have thought being married to Inaya you might have tried to grasp the family history and lineage but evidently not. So...returning to the salient point, i'm just curious as to how he comes to be labelled a...coward wasn't it?""
Zeysani has nothing to say about the title defending issue. Jalil had help from unexpected sources that she still can not believe. The tea is very good and she has some more as she looks from one man to the other, staying out of the conversation for now.
Vahlon shakes his head, "Fighting for something that you want is easy, when you insult another man and allow him no recorse then you are a coward. In the basested and most vile sense of the word." He says, his tone remians calm and respectful, atleast fairly so. He pauses, "He has refused to allow me to regain my honor through honest combat and has not even given me a response. Further adding insult against me. That is all I need to know."
Bannos ahhs "Ohh I see, fighting for something you want is easy? Well do remind me to tell all of the firan soldiers who fought on the battlefields to defeat the shamis that it was easy, I'm sure they will be delighted to hear. Ohh and i'll have to mention to Elianos that when we fought room by room and step by step to rescue Sabine in Caldera city that that was easy as well. Ohh and the beast, I'd forgotten how easy that was after all this time. As for his response, well i'm almost positive that either the Queen spoke to him to suggest he not kill her granddaughters husband, or he decided to pretend the challenge hadn't happened in order to let you live. He is Judano's son afterall, I'd imagine he does know the odd thing or two about fighting, though of course all those accolades came from easy fights didn't they? And as for honour...personally I always thought it was more honourable to rise above petty things, but then I am often thought to be an unusual individual."
Vahlon shakes his head, "Banno, you twist the truth through you words, I will not comment about your firan history, and I have much respect for the people that you name in those actions, but the abuse that has past between myself and Jalil is not something that is for you to scoff at. I do not have quarrel with you, and if I die fighting Jalil then so be it. Atleast I die with honor. But will not die knowing that I have been insulted and was unable to attempt to avengage myself, the insualt given now is only so great because of that which has passed before."
Vahlon voices raises with these words and his comments become more heated.
Zeysani's expression is one of calm pleasantness as Bannos continues to speak. Her violet eyes flash slightly as the conversation starts to heat up and her guards take a few steps forward before she holds up a hand to stop their progress.
Bannos coughs "Was I scoffing? Did aught of the word scoff pass my tongue? Nay not at all. What I did was respond to your declaration that fighting for something you want is easy. As for being insulted" he chuckles and shakes his head "You're only insulted if you choose to be, personally I can't remember the last time I was insulted, but then I don't choose to let myself be such, that and it's rather hard to insult someone laughing in your face as I understand it, never having encoutered such myself." His voice remains the same calm, well measured tone for which he is famed as an orator, perhaps with tints of mirth or sarcasm interlaced. "Ohh and just as a side point Vahlon, not to make a big point of it or anything but I do believe i'm allowed to scoff about anything I choose on my own land, not that I was of course, just to rejoin you on that issue. If you insist on fighting against Jalil for what you and you alone perceive as insults then thats up to you. But do be a good fellow and don't call my nephew a coward without being able to justify it. I'm sure there are all manner of people who'd take offence at that, i'm given to understand he has some very loyal subjects and a lot of comrades who owe their lives to him. I can't imagine why but something just tells me that insulting a decorated war hero might not go down in the best light with them"
Vahlon bows his head, "If you preffer that I not call him a coward on your land then I will obey that wish." He says, allowing most of the rest of speech to pass by himwith out truely acknowledging him, "I gave you my justification. Even though you did not agree with it. And I do not wish to offend you, still considering you and your family one of my own family's most trusted friends. But I do stand insulted by Jalil and whether or not I acknowledged it that insult would stand, the logic you give saying otherwise does not make sense to me. I am sorry to have offended you."
Bannos chuckles "Ahh Ticanee and Gold Dragons, I think pride must be some heritage both clans are born with and drenched in. Well if you truly wish to leave your wife a widow then thats entirely up to you. Just don't do it on my land or I might be forced to knock both your heads together, and we wouldn't want that would we?" His tone remains light, eyes glinting with a hint of some repressed mirth.
Zeysani smiles lightly as she finally interjects in a soft voice, "I am sure that no one would be so presumptious as to fight at the festival Clan Leader, why this is a time of peace and good will."
Bannos chuckles "Absolutely, thats why every year either I or my guards have to break up a fight or twenty. Then again you know what some people are like once they've had a drink or three"
Vahlon nods, "I understand that it is not Firan custom to fight at the festival and I will honor it." He shakes his head, "I will meet him where he will allow me too, I imagine that will be on his own lands." He sighs and closes his eyes a momment. He can't help but smile at his next comment.
Bannos adds as if as an afterthought "Ohh and Vahlon, you do know that if you've challenged him, that means he can choose the weapon, he might choose griffons to fight with afterall" He chuckles, humour evident despite the serious topic "That and of course you might get charged with assassination if you managed somehow to win."
Vahlon lloks over to Bannos and shrugs, "I don't have to kill him to win." He says, "In fighting I have done what was needed."
Zeysani's violet eyes fly over to the Clan Leader and back to Vahlon. "This is not a challenge to the -death- is it?"
Bannos ahhs "Ohh I see, you want to show how brave you are so you're going to fight until what? Someone gets a splinter?"
Bannos adds "No sorry, not brave..how honourable it is to fight words with steel, my mistake"
Vahlon shakes his head, "Until someone gives up or cannot continue." He says, "Words, Clan Leader Bannos, serve to hide honor more then they do promote it. They can be to easily twisted, actions, on the other hand, are real."
Bannos raises an eyebrow "Really? Well so much for all those dying speeches, and people who have said noble things over the years. I might as well just go and shred my whole collection of writings on the subject of honour, obviously I need to go and prove it on a daily basis and not just live it and speak on the subject. My I am learning a lot. Ohh and actions can never be twisted? I see, so someone says something you take offence with, so instead of ignoring it, or nicely turning the jibe back at them, you need to sink some metal object into their chest? Jolly good, I do like to hear what people regard as honourable, and all soo....civilised afterall"
Vahlon shakes his head, sitting down on the couch, "Talking to you make my head hurt, your honor." He says, quietly, resting his chin in his hands as he looks over at the man, "My words make perfect sense to me. That is the path of honor, and the path that a Ticanee most follow. I would not tell you to destory anything that is yours however. That is not my place to do."
Bannos smirks "Ohh I'm sure they do make perfect sense to you, and will keep on making perfect sense right up to the point a griffon eats you, or three foot of steel emerge from the back of your neck or something. Ahh well, if thats what your definition of honour is i'd rather keep mine if thats all the same to you?"
Vahlon shakes his head, "You are Firan, I am Ticanee, you use words, I use iron. You are skilled with your weapon and I with mine. You would be a fool to pick up a spear to fight with, and I am a fool to try words. Keep your damnable defition." He looks up standing and smiles to the man, "I preffer mine."
Zeysani's eyes widen, did Vahlon just insult the Clan Leader again? She must have heard wrong.
If Vahlon insulted the Clan Leader he didn't realize he was doing it, as far as he knew he was conceeding defeat.
Bannos raises an eyebrow "My damnable definition? Did you just say my....damnable definition? Ohh and one other thing Vahlon, you assume I don't know how to use a spear? I do so like it when people assume I don't know the first thing about fighting. Lets see, Elianos is my brother, Judano is my brother, Vahl, Solgarik and Sadin all elarned how to fight without weapons from me. Nope, you're right, obviously there isn't the slightest chance I know how to fight"
Vahlon cants his head, "I can count the number of firans that know how to use a spear that I know on one hand." He says, "I thought you would be best with a sword your honor. And I do not mean to offend you, but I have lived by my spear all my life. I am probably the best with it in the city."
Bannos smirks "Actually I barely know how to use a sword, just about what end to pick it up by. Ohh and i'm sure you're most impressive with it, you feel free to boast away, i'll just smile and nod and agree with you to boost your ego if you like"
Vahlon nods, "Some agreement at this point would be good." He says, "We have been agruing for a long time, I do not like to agrue with people that I respect as much as I respect you. Or people that I would like to consider my friends."
Zeysani just looks at Vahlon, realizing he doesn't know the clan leader at all. She knows that Bannos does not care for swords and thought it was common knowledge..
Bannos frowns "Arguing? I wasn't aware we were arguing, I was just replying to your words, and offering the odd piece of advice here and there. No no, you'd most certainly know it if we were arguing. I tend to be...much more cutting than the norm in an argument."
Vahlon nods, "I had thought it was an agruement because we where speaking or things with different ideas about reality, but I am the first to admit I do not know Firan very well, I am much better at speaking in my own language. What is the right word for the exchange we have had."
Zeysani smiles lightly at Vahlon. "A discussion?"
Bannos chuckles "A frank exchange of views? A...discussion. Besides, wouldn't arguing with a clan leader on his own land be...incautious at best?"
