Overview
LORD BATTUS ISTA BARUN
Though he would perhaps like to be best known as a great orator and defender of the Firan people, Lord Battus Ista Barun's life was marred from beginning to end by treachery and disgrace. Born in Anarinuell in 18 B.U., Battus was the eldest child of Gold Dragon nobles Lady Phelicia and Lord Wirk Ista Barun. Soon after his birth, the family joined the Ranivor's new Chimera Clan in disgrace, though the details of the scandal have been lost. Battus fought bravely in the Great War and several wars after that, using his signature flowery style that many remember as skillful though not overly powerful.
In 23 A.U., Adrastus attempted to stage a coup for the Chimeran leadership. Battus provided evidence against his brother, who attempted to assault the elder Ista Barun in an attempt to silence him. Adrastus was found guilty of treason and was executed, leaving his widow Aldrissa as the Ista Barun Head of Household. As punishment for not coming forward with the evidence as soon as he had learned of it, Battus was barred from holding public office in the Chimera clan for five years.
After the Chimera clan leadership was executed for treason, the entire Ista Barun family was accepted into the Bear Clan. However, there, too, the family was embroiled in scandal, as Battus' cousin Quintallus was executed for treason against that clan in 25 A.U.
In 30 A.U., Battus was found guilty of murdering Lady Aldrissa, Adrastus' widow and Ista Barun Head of Household, reputably in an attempt to gain control of the family for himself. Battus was sentenced to death, the third Ista Barun in seven years to be executed.
