Clan of the Bear
Clan Leader: Fidelia Ista Aldrik
Religion: Polytheistic
Clan colors: red and yellow
Traditional coloring: dark eyes, hair, skin tone
The Clan of the Bear is located in the northwestern reach of the Firan realms. Their land is heavily forested and filled with the rich mining opportunities of hills. The clan has, throughout history, enjoyed its seclusion and peace. Their rulers shrewdly kept this clan out of almost all the wars and conflicts, and so the Clan of the Bear always prospered while other clans have withered.
Having many children is important to members of this clan, as large families are seen as an ultimate boon. The clan has a strong characteristic for poetic justice and irony -- and are often thought to be unnecessarily subtle, evasive and sarcastic by the standards of other clans. The clan members are highly egalitarian and values negotiation and clever deal making of all sorts.
Ruling Family
The Ista Aldrik Family is clan royalty, and has ruled the Bear Clan in a generally matriarchal fashion for as long as anyone can remember. There have been rare exceptions -- male clan leaders -- but by and large, this is a clan that believes politicking is best left to the women. The Ista Aldriks have a reputation for being frosty, prudish, and ruthless schemers. Their clan rather likes that about them.
Nobility
The Teranzik Family is the major noble house of the Bear Clan.
The Shadina Family was once considered an equal and rival noble house in the Bear Clan, but most of their line died out in the Great War. The house was revived when Lord Taleo Teranzik was the proxy for the Bear Clan, and ordered a distinguished middle-class family to be elevated to nobility.
Sharanirs and Persons of Distinction
Nanny Graciana was a nursemaid to Queen Sabine and helped raise many of the Ista Aldrik girls. As such, she is revered, though she was a commoner, and made a Sharanir.
Sir Parosh Dilarik was also granted his land and a horse by Clan Leader Fidelia in spite of troubles in his family.
