Following the intervention of a diplomatic envoy representing the Republic, in the form of Lord Didoron, peace has been declared in the now infamous city of Scirlut. The agreement between the Griffon clan and the dissident Gold Dragons of Scirlut, still referring to themselves as 'Blood Dragons', allows for the division of the city into two independent halves, each ruled by one faction. A wall is to be built between the two halves, to reduce the instances of violent sporadic uprising, which, it is rumoured, is to be accounted for in the already stretched Republic budget. Economists predict further tax rises.
The passing of Dame Urtenia is to be marked in the Bear clan by the traditional six months of mourning for an honoured citizen of the Republic. It is expected that those clans who have not already stated their intention to follow suit will do so before the much beloved sharanir is sent to Unot on Wednesday 8th March, at 8.30pm EST. By the late Dame's last wishes, males of all clans in attendance for the ceremony are requested to wear the traditional Ticanee attire of a loincloth. Mer Parosh has requested that I advert you all to his desire to purchase one of said garments, in navy blue with a motif of stars.
Clan Leader Taria is said to be grieving in the more liberal and expressive Ticanee way, with various sundries and pieces of furniture broken, torn or destroyed, with all personal and business messengers turned away unanswered. Unconfirmed rumours state that our own Lady Proxy Fidelia was allegedly seen attempting to unlock the door to Clan Leader Taria's chambers in an unconventional manner using her own hairpins, in an attempt to gain entrance to comfort the grieving Oshta.
Mes Ilea recently began advertising her skills as a locksmith, perhaps following these rumours in an attempt to gain employment with the Lady Proxy. It is understood that those of the Bear clan in need of such services might contact the mes directly by messenger.
Mer Hufimo Fengan, 11, of the Chimera clan, who claimed responsibility for the firing of the ballista bolt which killed Mer Icarius of the Cockatrice family, and seriously injuring several of his family members, stood trial for his crimes. The Judge Dinesh, another Cockatrice, gave sentence which some consider to be unnecessarily harsh for a young boy, even despite the unfortunate result of his allegedly well meant actions. The child has been put into the jurisdiction of the Dranieez family and the Cockatrice clan for a period of five years, including service with the Cockatrice clan military's junior division, the 'claw cadets', his family have been fined 100,000 stenis, and on reaching adulthood, Mer Hufimo is to be conscripted into the fighting divisions of the republic military to see action at the Ellish front for a period of ten years.
Lady Xamori Teranzik hosted a tea for heads of noble households, and those otherwise authorised, to discuss marriage prospects for various members of their families. This tea followed closely on the heels of an announcement by a Cockatrice common mes that she wished to hold a gathering for nobles and commoners alike for a similar purpose. Lady Xamori's tea was sadly sparsely attended, although she assures me that some progress was made.
Lady Xamori also kindly advised me of a correction to last week's newsletter, in that she has not worn skimpy red clothing for months, as circumstances have necessitated the wearing of navy. I should like to apologise for any mistaken references to the wearing of such scandalous garments during the requisite mourning period.
