BRANNIK ISTARINIAD

Brannik Istariniad did not have the most prestigious lineage. He was the son of Vinik Istariniad, a notorious drinker and gambler, and Brinna Sennet, mistress of Clan Leader Judanarius and convicted murderer of the beloved Lady Eve. Rude and brash, he was nonetheless pitied by some for being caught up in the scandal surrounding his mother's execution, left without a mother at so young an age and with an often-absent father.

After his Ceremony, Brannik took that bullying nature and translated it into an enlistment in the Republic Army. As a sentry, he did not rise above the line Firan soldier, but he carried out his duties. Nonetheless, he always wanted to rise above being Brinna's son, associated with a traitorous murderer. He got that chance during the 38 A.U. war season.

Captured on the battlefield following a retreat of Firan forces, Brannik refused to cow to his Shamibelian captors. He wouldn't acquiesce to their humiliating games with the Firan prisoners, and stood up to them, matching them insult for insult. For his defiance, he was killed, his body left to rot without funeral. Soul death is the ultimate price a Firan soldier can pay, but in a stroke of luck -- or perhaps by the grace of the gods -- his soul was spared by Lady Taleena Oshta and her group of companions who had traveled to Ellish after the war season had passed to give her husband, Lord Lotuk Oshta, a proper funeral; in the process, Brannik was given his final rites as well, and sent to the heavens. In time following his death many glasses were somberly raised to Sentry Brannik, prideful to the end.

He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart, Arda, and their son, Lattar.
