A character makeover occurs when staff places an @republic request up to take a character and make them more appealing to play. This may happen for a character who has a lot of change in their life or who has spent significant time on the roster.

Makeover Guidelines

The following guidelines must be met for a successful makeover and before CP will be awarded:

  1. The character must be something with zing! This means if you would not be willing to consider the character for their personality or background or relationships because there is something unique there that the makeover will not even be accepted.
  2. The makeover should be spelling and grammar checked.
  3. The makeover should include relationship updates that are important to understanding of the character.
  4. There should be one character twist in either the personality, background, or relationships that was not indicated on the sheet when the makeover started. There are a lot of weird things that can happen to people, that they can pick up, or that they learn over time so there is a slew of ideas. This may require some brainstorming.
  5. Backgrounds and personality are expected to be age-appropriate. Child backgrounds should be updated to sound like adults. Adult backgrounds may need updated to show more experience as a character ages.
  6. The makeover is more likely to be approved if it suggests a new kind of secret for the character. We may not use the secret due to having more of a world view but it always gives brainstorming room to add something to the character.
  7. Please put a summary at the beginning of your makeover to explain the concept you added to the character. This will reduce the amount of reading required for the staff and will improve the chances of it being approved.

Helpful Hints

  1. A makeover is like a character update only meant to give the character something new and different. Think about various characters on the grid, the staff certainly twists child objects when they are CG'd.
  2. Choosing a concept that seems a little over the line may not be accepted but it's likely to be more acceptable and easier to work with than a concept that barely changes the character.
  3. Remember the characters you see in movies that you enjoy. Try to think what about them makes them an interesting character to watch versus movies or television shows that you find boring.
  4. If you don't feel comfortable doing a makeover but have some character twists to suggest, please put them below!
