Overview

Corista was a lord of the Griffon Clan, a mighty warrior, and a devout Priest of Uf who became the Clan Leader when his father, Jamal, died.

Early History

Even as a young man, Corista an avowed enemy of Firgalas of the Gold Dragon Clan. As young warriors, the two had an animosity and a fierce competitive spirit that drove them to nearly kill one another many times before either of them wore a medallion.

Unfortunately, that animosity grew into a series of Gold Dragon-Griffon wars that resulted in the Griffon Clan losing the cities of Anarinuell and Scirlut. The battle at the latter city was so bloody that the Gold Dragons committed rapes and genocide against Griffon citizens who fled to Ellish as refugees and gave Firgalas the name "The Butcher of Scirlut."

Corista in Surrender

In order to stop the slaughter, Clan Leader Corista, a priest of Uf, had to give the Staff of the High Priest to Firgalas as a condition of surrender. He sent his younger sister, Tazi to deliver the staff, hoping that she would not be killed, because she was pregnant at the time. (It is said that during this trip, Lady Tazi fell in love with Firgalas' son, Judano--a fact that she kept hidden from her older brother Corista all her life.)

After the surrender, many say that Corista was never the same man. Bitter, feeling as if he had failed, he is said to have descended into a slow madness. But while he was still performing his public duties, he gave his medallion to his daughter, Nala, who would go on to become one of the greatest warriors in Firan history.
