DERGANIVA JAFFUS

Derganiva Jaffus was a matchmaker, and a woman surrounded by scandal. She had the misfortune to have been wed to Admiral Jaffus. It wasn't easy finding a match for such an outspoken young woman, but when she was wed to Jaffus, she fell deeply in love with him and bore him five children. Her heart broke the day she found him in the arms of another woman - and her pain increased ten-fold when she realized he had not one, but two other women, and they were wives who had also borne him children. She was devastated, but was not about to give up her children's rights of inheritance, and so the legal battles began.

Formidable, Derganiva was self-confident and independent, an ideal matriarch for the large clan. As Jaffus' first wife, she felt she was the matriarch of the family, and was very aware of social propriety and careful to point out any breaches of etiquette found in others, perhaps given to do so even more by the fact that she was living her life in scandal, gossiped about by all those of her clan. When Clan Leader Bannos decreed that all the wives were legitamate and must all live together in the Jaffus Insula, built with Jaffus' fortune, Derganiva was resigned to her fate, but she never liked nor forgave those other wives, and cared for their children little.

After years of living in the Insula with her family, including her son Dinesh, who was made Head of Household after Jaffus' death, Derganiva was found dead in her home at the age of sixty-six years old, having lived a long, if embittered, life. She found her way to rest with Unot on Sun Jan 31, in the year 37 A.U, and is survived by her sons Dinesh and Rutan, her daughter-in-law Norah, and her grandchildren Serina, Tyrin, Faedrus, Balinda, and Lirinaya.
