The Eagle Clan Civil War of 45 A.U. resulted from volatile rumors that Clan Leader Ania Istaneysani had lost the Eagle Clan medallion.

Overview

On Monday May 14, 45 A.U., it has become widely believed by the Eagle Clan that the true medallion has been lost to the Shamibelians. As such, their clan identity is on shaky ground. Not only have they been agitating for more and more freedoms, and treating their clan leader with less respect, but they have also started to lose population. Some Eagles are leaving the clan to become Cockatrice, Chimerans, or even Griffons!

Scholars in the Griffon Clan point out that since Clan Leader Luna is the next in line descendant of Eagle Royalty and actually does have a clan medallion that Eagle Clan Citizens could rightly consider themselves Griffons, and that a merging of the two clans would bring about prosperity--cities for the Griffons, soldiers for the Eagles. Clan Leader Luna should be an acceptable clan leader for the people of both, and Lady Ania can't object too much can she? She was the one who lost a clan medallion... the Griffons are certain that Luna's would have to be pried from her cold dead fingers.

Eagle citizens would normally be enraged at the scholarly suggestions of merging clans with another, but they are disheartened and fearful about what is now widely suspected to be the truth--that the Eagle Medallion is lost. Firans don't exist free of medallions, the spirit populi, and so the Eagles do take seriously the Griffon point of view. If they joined with the Griffons they would become a power on par with the Dragons or the Bears--perhaps stronger than either of them or both of them together--and the Griffons would have supremacy within the Republic. Something to ponder.

Panic spread amongst the Eagle Clan citizens. Prince Proxy Zaridos responded, "Any who spread rumors that the Eagle medallion is lost will be found guilty of slander against Ania and the Eagle throne, and as such, will be found guilty of treason. It is certainly the perogative of the Clan Leader when and where she shall wear and display the medallion -- rest assured that Clan Leader Ania is perfectly aware of where the medallion is."

In reaction, Prince Lianos stood before the Eagle Citizens, "We are a clan of free speech, a clan of liberty. In his fear and in his despair my brother, Prince Zaridos, has forgotten this. He tells you not to speak. My people, this is wrong. And so I bring you the truth. We lost the medallion. It was taken from us. This much you already suspect. What you do not know is we took the medallion back. Bravely did we journey forth and seize it from the Shamibelian empire, the dark empire that would dare to take our sovereignty from us. But the medallion rejected Ania. She is no longer our beloved Ania, she is without her mind and she could not touch, could not carry the medallion. And so it has been kept secret."

Upon the Prince's neck when exposing his throat laid the Eagle Clan Medallion. Lianos declared, "It remains secret no longer. My people, I carry the medallion. And with this medallion I revoke Prince Zaridos' judgment. Speak, speak freely! And let us together welcome a golden age of democracy."

Asylum and the Public Outcry

The strife within the Eagle Clan splintered the citizens into two separate factions - pro-Ania or pro-Lianos. The medallion in question led citizens to chose sides or switch alliegences than face the uprising. Clans, even the Old City, offered asylum/refuge to the troubled citizens.

Not every Republic citizen responded with generosity. Certain citizens responded in favor of democracy, questioning the present leadership by Divine Blood, while others took the opportunity to make stenis.

A Clan Divided

Strife continued as leadership remained undetermined. Clan Leader Ania had taken ill, remaining largely unseen by the public. Meanwhile, Prince Proxy Lianos assured the Eagle citizens that he remained in control of the true medallion, rebuking claims of coup by other Clan Leaders. Prince Proxy Zaridos acted in her stead and revoked Proxyship from Prince Lianos. Later, Sir Dominik Cryani closed the Eagle District Gates to stave the internal conflict. But that hasn't stopped the public's outcry and war is on the brink.

On May 30, 45 A.U. Lord Viceroy Taleo announced that Ellish was being fire-bombed by the Shamibelians, a precusor to possible air raids upon the city. Since Prince Proxy Zaridos was handling Eagle matters, the Viceroy named Prince Lucas the acting General of the Third Division. Despite the urgency, the internal strife did not cease but only grew.

The Rise of Democracy

Then known as Mes Nestra Apellon, she was not the first to speak against the right of clan leadership being determined by divine blood. Mer Huetzi of the Chimera Clan led a series of left-wing speeches which caught the ire from nobility and subsequently was jailed. An Eagle Citizen and a follower of Zin, Nestra's actions immobilized the clan on a path toward democracy.

Overturn of Rulership?

In the days following the air raids upon the city, the attacks on Lurashar, the Eagle Clan remained in conflict. Sermons and Group Prayers were made for those heading into battle -- to Ellish, to Unotran, to Lurashar and beyond. And in the midst of the chaos, Mes Nestra assumed control of the Eagle Clan and captured the main Eagle Royal Family. As a result, the Clan Council had no other course but to assume control. The Lord Viceroy claimed the Eagle Clan (temporarily) and the Republic Military has placed an imbargo around the Eagle Clan District.

Burning Passions

In the face of the glooming prospect of being starved to death, a flicker of fire engulfed the streets and caused a looming black cloud of smoke to hover over the district. A temporary truce was in order and the Fifth Division as well as prestigious Republic figures such as Clan Leader Luna Corinala and Princess/Lady Lucretia of many last names came to the Eagles' aide. Once the fires were stopped, every citizen save for the Eagles departed and the gates were thereafter closed.

Put to a Vote

The majority of the Eagle Clan dispersed from the Republic capital and traveled to their clan's captial, Lurashar. Camped for days while Mes Nestra heals from grevious injuries, discussions and meetings began to decide their clan's future.
