Firan has a closed, or circular, economics system based on land. Land provides the basis for crops, which are sown and reaped by farmers, who sell the crops in the market to be used for food, which gives people energy to do work such as planting crops. The farmers pay rent to nobles who own the land. Similar cycles can be found for other resources, like timber, ore, animals, and minerals.

Out of this foundation, that of supply, demand, and limited resources, comes the Firan economy. All of this is kept track of by code, which provides a very interesting world to live in. Making money is important (though not absolutely essential), as it affects how your character lives and what he or she is able to do.

The five social classes are often related to money, though not exclusively. Outcasts are usually extremely poor; commoners are living at barely subsistance level; middle class tend to be skilled workers and craftsman; and nobles are at the high end, being land owners and wealthy elite. The royals are an entirely different class, separated from the regular nobles by titles and responsibility, not funding.

There are many ways for your character to make money. One of the most basic ways is to use the autowork feature. Twice a Real Life day, a job runs that deducts a certain amount of energy from your character and trades it for stenis (cash). Another way is to make or find objects and sell them to the market or individual players.
