ELLISH: End of the Uell River
This battle-hardened settlement has a hard working spartan population. The Clan of the Griffon once extended through the plains so that the clan's territory was cradled by the rivers Ani and Uell. In the great wars between the Clan of the Griffon and the Clan of the Gold Dragon, all but two Griffon cities were lost to the latter, and the clan was driven out of the plains entirely. Ellish was one of the two cities to left to the Clan of the Griffon, along with Firalut.
As a result of the wars, many clan members fled the old Griffon Clan cities and sought Ellish for refuge. The survivors of the war poured into Ellish wounded, impoverished, and forlorn. Because of these refugees, the city doubled in size in less than a half dozen years. While some of the refugees had integrated themselves into the old Ellish society, most of them lived in outlying villages composed of newly built cottages and huts.
Ellish was a very defense driven settlement where men and women alike are raised for battle. The people lived simply, and had very little personal wealth. Men and women were considered to be equal in Ellish society because this settlement had spent so much time either preparing for, recovering from, or engaged in war that men and women had to take on each other's roles as necessary.
But Ellish's troubles were not over after their wars with the Gold Dragon. During the Shamibelian invasion during the Great War, Ellish was one of the first cities to be taken, and it is the only remaining Firan city in Shamibelian hands. Its inhabitants are all enslaved, and it now serves as the major base of operations from which the Shamibelians retain a foothold in Firan territory. Every year, the Firans have fought to recapture Ellish. Finally in 42 A.U., led by High General Donos, the Firan forces were victorious, in what is now known as the Liberation of Ellish. The Governor of Ellish, prior to its liberation, was a Shamibelian called Fudathim, who has made no secret of his antagonism toward the Firan Republic and its people.
