Clan/Race: Bear, Firan

Official Statement

My name is Empyrean and it's true that Master Hralib did not find me to be that worthy of a slave. I am such a bad slave, in fact, that I just left that blue rope sitting around. Anybody could have used it. What about Rodiste? His precious Hydran Pride was truly wounded when Master Hralib informed him that he was going to be bred to another man's girl to produce 'docile' slaves. When Rodiste heard that he was going to be used like a brothel whore, he got angry enough to kill Hralib.

Background

Empyrean grew up a Ticanee Oshta. At his Ceremony of Souls, however, he became a Bear. And, well into adulthood, he became a slave. Neither a motivated nor loyal slave, Empyrean is, in a word, lazy -- and with good reason, he's always felt. Having watched his parents sacrificed to Obala and their skulls made into cups, Empyrean has never been able to obey his Shamibelian master without some sense of resentment. Empyrean doesn't even make an effort to appear like a good slave. He couldn't be happier, now that Hralib's dead. If only that didn't mean he was slated for execution too.

Relationships

  • Melani -- Empyrean's sister and fellow slave.
  • Pevifa -- Hralib's first wife, and Empyrean's mistress.
  • Nobifa -- Hralib's second wife, and Empyrean's mistress.
  • Brizo, Orsatos, Perdita, Jalil, Emma, Teonia and Rodiste -- Hralib's other slaves who, like Empyrean, are all slated to be executed tonight if the real killer is not found.

Goals

  1. Find out who really killed Hralib and Throgana so that you and your sister aren't executed by the end of the night.
  2. Protect Melani--you're very worried about her.
  3. Steal the Skull-of-Taria cup, and give it proper funeral rites so that your mother is not a lost soul

Empyrean Round One

Round One Reveal

Melani lamented often about her inability to just take a dagger and kill Hralib with it when he came near her, so how could she have finally found the nerve?

Orsatos claimed that Hralib trusted him so much he was going to have him draw up his Last Will and Testament. What if Orsatos didn't like the terms and decided to kill him before his new Will could be drawn up?

Jalil vehemently objected to the mentoring role that Throgana took in teaching his daughter Emma to be a good slave. It'd be just like Jalil to do something reckless like murder their master and Throgana and get them all killed.

Everyone knows that Jalil had a longstanding grudge against Throgana for turning on him when Lord Argus tried to seize control during the Alliance War. So Empyrean is sure Jalil would have been happy to kill Throgana. But what motive did he have for killing Master Hralib? Other than the usual ones, that is.

Everyone knows that Hralib broke Rodiste's Hydran pride by forcing him to mate, publicly, with Teonia--and that Prince Savaren told him that if he was any kind of real man, he'd have forced the Shamibelians to kill him before defiling a Firan princess in such a way. Hydran Pride is a bitch--it wouldn't surprise Empyrean if Rodiste decided to 'prove he was a man' by killing Hralib. He certainly hopes not.

Everyone knows that Dyanna has permits for free travel, and is one of the Shamibelians' most trusted slaves. She could have gotten away from the Night of Obala's Pride to kill Hralib without anyone thinking anything of it.

Round One Conceal

Empyrean hated Hralib and wanted him dead. It wasn't bad enough that he had to call Hralib "Master." He was forced to watch as the Shamibelians sacrificed both of his parents to Obala, and made drinking cups out of their skulls.

Empyrean begged to be allowed to burn the cups so that his parents would not be lost souls. But Hralib refused.

Day in and day out, Hralib used to drink out of Taleo's skull. Empyrean finally could take it no more.

He decided to steal the cup from his master, and burn it. To that end, he needed to follow Hralib to catch him off-guard. He obtained forged permits that would let him do just that.

The Night of Obala's Pride, Empyrean left the 'festivities' early, so that he could break into the Great Library and steal the skull cup from Hralib.

Hralib gave Lainath permission to cut down the Ticanee totem poles, when he was clearing land with which to woo Tabitha. The Ticanee slaves were all horrified, and wanted Hralib and Lainath dead for this offense.

Lainath has been chopping up the totem poles for firewood, and the Ticanee slaves are up in arms over it. One of the totem poles went mysteriously missing.

Empyrean, Melani, Perdita, Sarina and Feathyr stole the last remaining totem pole before the Shamibelian warrior, Lainath, could turn it into firewood. They've stashed it in the catacombs, with the dead bodies. They intend to kidnap Caree the Slaver, hijack her ship, and smuggle it out, tonight! The totem pole's safety is far more important than human lives.

Empyrean Round Two

Round Two Reveal

Tabitha was watching Hralib the entire party, and when she saw him slip out with Throgana, she followed.

Pevifa was nagging Hralib to clear the Temple of Zin for her, and make it habitable, because she had chosen it to be her personal bath house.

Nobifa made a very public showing of her upset that she hadn't yet gotten pregnant by Hralib, and she blamed his attentions on Throgana for it.

Hralib always told Ruffialo that he was too soft on the Firans and that's why he'd never get very far in life. Ruffialo took great offense to this.

When Katriana was captured, her children were very sick, and Hralib thought they should be sacrificed instead of infecting everyone else with their germs. Katriana went to Throgana for help and entrusted her with the children, but Throgana turned them over to Hralib.

Forlanis's slave Katriana carries a concealed knife on her thigh.

Throgana told Teonia she ought to thank Hralib for being kind enough to mate her to at least a nobleman like Rodiste, instead of whining and carrying on about how she was publicly humiliated and bred to another man, not her husband.

Inaya frequently visited the Temple District to worship, trespassing on the land Hralib was clearing for Pevifa. Hralib warned her he'd demand Scithvor kill her the next time he caught her there. Maybe she killed him to shut him up!

Empyrean knows that if Hralib had bought Savanna away from Malentez, and made her an armorer for the army, it would have been nearly impossible for her to buy her freedom. Plus, she would be a traitor against the remaining Free Firan Republic.

Anorna is wearing one of Throgana's earrings. Wasn't Throgana missing an earring when they found her dead body?

Hralib gave Throgana the Ranivor's medallion to wear as jewelry, and this infuriated Zaridos beyond measure, who vowed to strangle her with it if need be. Maybe he did.

Empyrean saw Lucas skulking about the Great Library where Hralib often worked nights, burning scrolls to clear the building for his wife Nobifa. Perhaps he laid in wait for Hralib to return from the celebration, and killed him there.

Round Two Conceal

Empyrean brought his blue rope with him to the Great Library because he thought he might need it to sneak into the window, so that he could steal the Skull-of-Taleo cup. As it turns out, he didn't need it.

When he got to the Great Library at 11:30PM, he found the skull cup sitting by the fire where Hralib had been burning precious scrolls. No one was guarding it, because everyone, including Hralib, was at the party.

Once Empyrean had stolen the skull, he went to Torianos and asked for help in burning his father with proper funeral rites. They decided they needed Aldrin's help.

Oddly, Aldrin was not where he was supposed to be. It would be hours before they found him, and when they did, he was in a very self-satisfied mood.

Aldrin, Empyrean and Torianos snuck over to the Temple of Unot and started an enormous fire in which they finally gave Taleo proper funeral rites and burned the skull, saving him from being a lost soul. If Empyrean has ashes on him, it's because of that. He never saw Hralib that night.

Empyrean is very afraid that Aldrin may have been the one who killed Hralib and Throgana.

Empyrean wouldn't blame him for doing it, except that if Aldrin is going to let him and his sister get executed for his crime, they can't be friends anymore for sure.

Round Two Props

Round Two Additional Goals

  1. Get Caree's trust so that it will be easier to kidnap her
  2. Find out how much space her boat will hold, for smugging the totem pole out
  3. Keep any of the Shamibelians from finding the totem pole and desecrating it

Empyrean Round Three

Round Three Reveal

Empyrean suspects that on the Night of Obala's Pride, Inaya went to the Temple District to burn the temples down so that no Firan could ever worship in them again. If Hralib came upon her, a struggle would most certainly have occurred.

Torianos has been secretly burning the bodies of human sacrifices to Obala with proper Firan funeral rites, and that is why he often has ashes upon him. He's not guilty of anything, Empyrean is sure.

Empyrean knows that all he did was steal his father's skull and the last time he saw Hralib, he was alive, having sex with Throgana in the Great Library. Can Lucas say the same?

Empyrean saw Jalil tampering with Emma's pouch of cosmetics on the Night of Obala's Pride. At first, Empyrean thought that Jalil was trying to do something to his own daughter, but in retrospect, that doesn't make much sense.

Emma often did Throgana's hair and make-up. Jalil knew it. What if he put some kind of poison in the cosmetics?
