A soldier signs up for a 2 year term in the republic military when he enlists but he/she is expected to serve for considerably longer than this. To enlist in the republic military you must first enlist in your clan military. Clan and Republic rank will always be equal.

Enlisting in your Clan Military
First you would check your military heirarchy by typing clanmil. After that it's simple. Find someone of sufficient rank to enlist you (Centurion if you are a commoner and a Captain if you are a noble) and go rp with them about it. If they agree to enlist you they will handle the code side as explained below.
Some clans, such as the Griffon and Hydra clan, require that all adults who meet certain criteria serve in the clan military.
Enlisting in the Republic Military
The process for joining the republic military is exactly the same as it is for joining the clan military with one small difference. Instead of using clanmil you need to use the Military/list command to find the names of those able to enlist you.
At the time of writing the following names would seperate the list up into divisions.
- Military/list Lucian for the first division
- Military/list Savaren for Prince Savaren's Army (second division)
- Military/list Zaridos for Prince Zaridos' Army (second division)
- Military/list Akiva for the fifth division
Enlisting Someone else
If you hold a military rank in the appropriate clan or republic military then you can enlist another into that military. If the enlistee is being enlisted in the republic military and is not enlisted in a clan military the code will prevent them enlisting until they join their clan military. The appropriate rank depends upon the enlistee's social class. A noble begins at Centurion whilst a commoner begins at Sentry. Thus you must be a Centurion to enlist a commoner and a Captain to enlist a noble. It's worth noting that if the enlistee holds a rank in their clanmil other than sentry or centurion you will need permission off a ranking member of their clan military before enlisting them in the republic military at a different rank. Forcing a clan military to demote someone can obviously cause serious ic repercussions.
The code for enlisting someone is simple.
- For the Republic Military: You simply type: military/enlist <player> under <commander> as <rank>.
- For the Clan Military: You type: clanmil/enlist <subordinate> under <commander> as <sentry or centurion>

Requesting Military Issue Kit
At this point in time (7th December 2007) the correct procedure for requesting kit issue for a new soldier is to put up an @military posting. This should be submitted by the new enlistee's CO and the following command is used:
- @military/add IC/<name's> <rank> Kit/1=<details><tt>
eg. <<tt>@military/add IC/Ramisa's Centurion Kit/1=Ramisa needs centurion kit issuing including spear and bow.
Re-Enlisting in the Military
After 2 ic years in the republic military you will receive and @mail which will ask if you wish to re-enlist or not. If this is not answered (for example the character is on the roster) the code will automatically re-enlist the character. You can see when everyone is due for reenlistment with the military/reenlistdue command. military/reenlisted <name> will tell you when that character last re-enlisted and if they are retired.
Leaving the Military
There are three ways to leave the republic military and two ways to leave your clan military.
- If you are a member of the republic military you get the option to leave the military every 2 ic years. Please be aware that although you can leave at this point that it does not necessarily mean that the npc population will approve of your decision.
- You can be honorably discharged at any point in your service. This is decided on a case by case basis by the military officers.
- You can be dishonorably discharged. This is decided on a case by case basis by the military officers.
