Ezekeus

Overview
A sweet young man, if a little thick at times, Ezekeus has few ambitions in life other than to be a good husband and father one day, become a priest and write home about it, and to live his life politely and properly.
He has broad shoulders and a stocky frame, rough hands and a decent height. There's an approachable gentleness about him, and he is almost always smiling, whether a subtle smile in his eyes, or a bright and dazzling grin. His colouring -- olive-brown skin, auburn hair and bright green eyes -- is an odd mixture of earthy tones that seem to work together rather than clash.
Ezekeus tells everyone that he's a storyteller, but he makes his stenis as a carpenter, creating pretty pieces of furniture and selling them in stores all around Anarinuell. When he does assume the role of his vocation, it's usually within the Great Library of the Temple of Uf, telling made-up parables that are usually aimed towards children and rarely have a point - his favourite kind of story.
Currently, Ezekeus resides in the western end of the Bear District in the Teranzik Cottage with his sister Emee, his not-actually-his-brother Eriden, three hounds, one nephew, two ferrets and twenty-four chickens.
Ranks & Offices
- Centurion within the Bear Clan militia
- Initiate within the Uffian clergy
Family Life
Siblings
Emee
His older sister, Emee. She was the one that came from Nelanos to Anarinuell first, and he merely followed suit as soon as he had gone through his Ceremony. She is almost a second mother to him, as she had a hand in raising and looking after him when they were both children, such as washing him in cooking pots and helping make mud pies. Now that they are both adults, Ezekeus still turns to her for guidance, although is coming to realise that she doesn't have to fill a parental role anymore, and is more frequently handling his own life, and helping her with her's.
His brothers consist of Echid, a soldier with a large family back in Nelanos, and the other one. He's not talked about.
Nephews/Nieces
Pretty much a miracle. This little blonde-haired, blue-eyed cherub was introduced to their family not through any usual ways. Emee found the little boy when he was just an infant, abandoned in the wedding maze, Emee having been lead there by a monkey. The consensus was that this was a gift from Kamnestra, perhaps because Emee was a deserving mother who had lost at least one child by miscarriage.
So far, no formal adoption has taken place, but it makes no difference to them. Ezekeus treasures Alael as a nephew, and will see to it the boy gets a proper and religious upbringing and education so that he might one day become a priest himself.
Parents
Emeesa and Rios, his mother and father, back in Nelanos and probably still bickering over everything. Emeesa was most protective over Ezekeus out of her brood of four children, being the youngest, and Rios was, in contrast, rather distant. He wanted all three of his sons to be soldiers in the wartime and fishermen every other time, and was very disappointed in the fact that Ezekeus wanted more to be a bard and a storyteller instead. Ezekeus loves his father and everything, but is glad he no longer lives with him.
Marriage
Ezekeus is currently unmarried.
Children
Ezekeus currently has no children, but wants many, one day. The idea of being a father is one of great appeal, a father who has a hand in raising his children and taking care of them. This is one of the reasons Ezekeus became a babysitter for Lady Suphi's three children for a short while.
Accomplishments
None to speak of, really.
Enemies
Ezekeus isn't aware of any.
Allies
Eriden
Eriden, arrived in Anarinuell with only a bit of stenis and a very rough, mismatched set of clothing to his name. Much like Ezekeus did. Being rather new to the city himself, Ezekeus extended some charity towards the other Bear man and had him stay with him for a while. They became very close and rather inseparable for a while, and Ezekeus knows he can count on Eriden for anything.
Well, sort of. He is a noble, after all, and Ezekeus would doubt that Lord Captain Fiero Teranzik would see he, a last-nameless commoner, as any sort of ally in return. But either way, Lord Fiero's attention was caught by Emee and Ezekeus when they discovered a rather embarrassing painting of the Bear Captain lying in the Palace District. They hid it from view before the guards could come and deal with it, but Lord Fiero granted them a boon. They, very nervously, requested a place to call home, and within a month, Lord Fiero and Lord Empyrean set them up in the Teranzik Cottage, a cosy home with more than enough space. Ezekeus and Emee then became the charges of the Teranzik family and are very humbled and grateful to be so. Ezekeus trusts Lord Fiero very much.
Sister Kodiachi was Ezekeus's first mentor upon joining the Uffian clergy. This teacher-student relationship turned into mutual friendship and continues to be so even when Lady Mother Taleena moved Ezekeus's instruction to His Honour, Priest Torianos. Kodiachi is on Ezekeus's rather short list of people to tell anything to, and he values her opinion highly. He would do anything for her in return and cares very much for her.
Well perhaps it's a stretch to call a young girl an 'ally', but he would count himself as her ally, at least. Also on that Very Short List is Aziza, once a Bear and now a Griffon but still counted as one of his closest friends. She has the level head Bear women should have, is very smart for her age and thinks things through. Ezekeus has a great amount of respect and pride for her.
Scandals
Ezekeus makes sure not to get involved with any scandals. Scandals are unseemly and would make his family look bad! He has a few brushes with scandalous behaviour, however.
One such time was when he was attending one of Lord Banian's numerous parties. He got drunker than he ever had before and wound up waking up and locked in Mes Ladonna Harror's wine cellar. He spent perhaps a day and a night inside before he was discovered, and no charges were pressed against him. The whole incident is completely embarrassing to Ezekeus, but he can't help but grin when he recalls it.
Miscellany
Habits
- Ezekeus collects and breeds chickens and roosters, and names every one of them. They live, pampered, in the Teranzik Cottage garden and enjoy a great variety of seeds to peck and straw to scratch. On last count, there were twenty-four.
- Not cutting his hair. It's possibly the one thing Ezekeus is vain about, but at least he keeps it neatly bounding back in a braid.
- Not writing down his stories. Ezekeus thinks up a great many but only a few are actually written and recorded properly. He structures them in his head and tells them from memory and off the cuff, but, being not the most studious of men, he neglects to put in the work and get them penned. His excuse is that storytelling is largely an oral tradition and practice.
- Getting called 'Zeke'. 'Eze' comes up a bit too, but Ezekeus even gets called 'Zeke' by nobles, or 'Mer Zeke'. He rather likes it!
Likes
- Lady Uf. Surprise!
- Puppies! Deviating a little from typical Uffian behaviours, Ezekeus also loves dogs. He doesn't know much about them and mostly he can't ever get them to do as he wants, but he's working on it!
- Carpentry... well, he tries to be more of an interior designer than a carpenter, but it's good work, pays well, and gives him time to think.
- Harp playing. One of the best ways to get invited to grand parties is to act as the entertainment!
- Making new friends! Ever the social butterfly, Ezekeus enjoys striking up conversation and likes it even more when this leads to friendship. He also enjoys a bit of gossip - he has trouble keeping secrets unless they're really really really important, and likes to impart what he knows to others.
- Finally, storytelling. Ezekeus has very distant ambitions to be a Famous Storyteller, and pictures himself going on grand adventures and witnessing the acts of heroes and being the first one to spread the word. In the meantime, he creates small stories and parables and shares them at the Temple, a favourite passtime of his as well as a duty.
Dislikes
- Scandal. Ezekeus, personally, would rather be known for good things rather than be known for his errors.
- Bullying. He has no tolerance for the bullying of others and finds it hard to bring physical pain to others in turn, though by the size of him, he well could.
- Cockfights. It used to be a mild dislike - he has no idea how one can find this practice anything other than vulgar. Now that he is an Uffian and has come to understand the value of birds, he detests it. He's rather quiet about his dislike of this popular sport, but he would never attend such an event and any talk of it would likely be met with chilly, stony silence. He thinks it's wrong in all ways.
