Famous Scrolls

From FiranMUX

Though the Great Library was burned down by the Shamibelians during the Great War of 1 B.U., the Firans have amassed a number of useful writings since then. Some of them are kept in the great library and others are worthy of note for their political value.

Is Your Life Worth a Cheese Pie?

In June of 41 A.U. a political screed began circulating in the literate circles of Firan life, entitled 'Is your life worth a cheese pie?' This letter sparked the imagination of the Firan populace. The author claims to have been a slave in Shamibel, and the story told in the letter is horrifying. Some claimed that the letter is just some piece of fiction that the Viceroy and the Clan Council dreamed up to defend their hawkish nature and their insistence on sending Firans to die at war each summer instead of making peace with the Shamibelians. Others claimed it was the gospel truth, and this letter has made them feel more fiercely about their calling to fight and win this war. It quickly become the Uncle Tom's Cabin of the Firan Scrolls and everyone wants to know the identity of its author, "A Concerned Citizen."

Papyrus Scroll: Is Your Life Worth a Cheese Pie?

Picture this: A little boy with one tooth left in his mouth, the rest have been beaten out of
him by his 'Master'. He comes up to each person that passes and asks tearfully, "Are you my
mother?" An old man dying, presses a leather thong into your hand, "Tell my wife I love her,"
he sputters as he coughs up blood and dies. "Is there word from the Republic? Please tell me
I'll be free one day!" a tired young woman asks. These are all daily sights and sounds in
Shamibel. Yes, Shamibel, not Ellish. Is your life worth more than a cheese pie? Do you get
clean water to drink every day? Are you lashed from the time you wake until you go to bed? Do
you pray each night that death might release you from the horrors you see? Well, I can say yes
to all that as I lived this seemingly neverending nightmare. I was a slave in Shamibel -- not
Ellish -- Shamibel. While some of you cry and whine that we should 'cut our losses' with war,
you've never seen Firan children whose teeth have been knocked out crying for their mother to
spoon feed them some spoiled gruel because they don't even have strength to chew. The children
eat with the dogs and flies, kicked and beaten every day. Each field slave is worth about ONE
CHEESE PIE. The most a slave is worth is probably a weeks worth of meals for the average
person living in the city. Women are raped daily and made to carry foul horned spawn. Ticanee
are skinned, truly skinned like animals. Their skin is used to make pillows for the homes.
Ticanee skin pillows. The goats boast about this, and seem to have a horrible hatred towards
Ticanee, even over Firans. Perhaps, that's why our Ticanee people go to war more quickly, more
readily, and don't often seem to want to give up the fight. I can guarantee that the fight for
Ellish is not worth giving up on. Ellish is like a cushy Inn compared to Shamibel where Firans
beg for the release of death and yet it doesn't often come. An old man handed me his wedding
necklace as he died in my arms. I, too, prayed for death. As slave initiation you are given a
situation that you will never forget. You are made to whip a field slave, until he dies. If
you do not they kill him in front of you and throw you into a pit to rot die. Once you are
dead they heap you up and throw you into a field to decompose into fertilizer. There is no
'sending to Unot'. You are soul deathed just for being a Firan. Now tell me, are the lives of
your fellow Firans worth less than a cheese pie to you? There are not a 'few' slaves in
Shamibel. Each home has tons. Firans that are just like you and I. They pray daily, have the
same fears and hopes, and just the barest hint of news that the Republic is still fighting
gave them hope to live another day, fight another day, survive...in a land where there worth
is equal to that of ONE CHEESE PIE! FIGHT OR DIE BY THEIR FOUL HANDS!

Signed: A concerned citizen who will NOT give up the fight!
