Overview

As many of you know, we've been having persistent problems with the Ramada Inn BWI after they canceled a reservation that Adam made of our con suite, without informing him, and subsequently punted our rooms off the floor we'd reserved.

They invited us, in no uncertain terms, to find another hotel, but given that it was only a few short weeks until Memorial Day Weekend, it was going to be a scramble. Though we made numerous inquiries, none of the area hotels really met our needs.

As such, in spite of their abominable behavior, we maintained our reservations at the Ramada Inn, and continued to work with the associated restaurant there, to see if tentative accommodations for our gathering space and the LARP could be made.

However, after today's conversation with the Ramada Inn BWI in which one of their employees demanded that we take down the webpage we provided for our guests to explain our hotel situation, it seems clear that staying at the Ramada Inn BWI is inadvisable.

Naturally, each of our guests have made their own reservations, and if you'd like to stay at the Ramada considering the fact that perfect alternatives are not available, or hold your reservation there until you can be assured that an adequate alternative for your individual needs has been found--that's your right. But Adam and I will not be staying there, and will cancel our reservations this evening in good faith.

Alternative Arrangements

Adam and I have reserved, on our own credit card, a block of rooms at the Candlewood Suites that you may wish to avail yourselves of.

While the staff at the Candlewood Suites, Tangi Robertson, has been extremely helpful, and the price for single rooms is comparable, it is not well-suited to our needs. Many of our guests will have to pay $30 more a night for their hotel rooms. Others, who were counting on doubles, will have to share beds or rely on roll-away beds.

We had hoped to take full advantage of the grace period to allow Tangi to guarantee some of the larger rooms and to see if roll-away beds could be rented from elsewhere. Unfortunately, the Ramada Inn's behavior has forced our hand, and Adam and I can only hope that we are not forced to incur extra costs for additional suites to accommodate the needs of our guests.

If you wish to stay with us at the Candlewood Suites, you need do nothing but inform Lisa Christie, as we have already reserved the rooms. When you get to Baltimore, you can pay for the rooms on your own, and SarahScott Brett has agreed to organize this.

Complaints and Actions

The staff sincerely apologizes for the chaos and uncertainty of our hotel situation for this FiranCon. We understand that it's an act of trust and faith that our guests pack up, fly to Baltimore, and spend time in a new community once every year. It was never our intention to allow you to be displaced, inconvenienced, or overcharged. We will do everything in our power to make this right for you.
