Winter flies by quickly, and spring bleeds into summer, as changes abound across the Firan lands.

With the Hydras being expelled from the Republic, when the Council next met it was realized that without the Hydrans, the Republic vote could not occur -- they had left, and the Republic was no more. Shock prevailed, and as they debated courses of action through the skylight an eclipse suddenly began to occur. Although they filed outside to see what the matter was, it was quickly decided that action needed to be taken: they could not sit idly by while the Republic was no more. Instead, they went back indoors, continued their meeting, and voted to reform the Republic as the Alliance, with Prince Vahlgellan becoming the new Ranivor.

Meanwhile, plans for the Festival were underway, and the clans found with the trade embargo that had been settled on the Hydrans that they had to work closely together in order to meet their needs without them. Many Hydrans did not come to the festival, although they were welcomed, and it was later determined that the Hydra clan had not donated any funding for the festival, which angered the people. As well, in the lean two seasons that followed, the Hydras found themselves beset by a lack of goods and rioting, as morale fell when the clan did not meet their needs for basic goods. It's said that the level of corruption has risen quite high as well. Despite some attempts at negotiation, efforts were not accomplishing much, due in part to the unrest that was occurring in the Alliance itself. When Princess Selene was tried and convicted for treason because she sent aid to the Hydrans despite the embargo, she was charged with the task of bringing the Hydra Clan back to the fold of the Republic; once she did that, her name would be cleared. Nevertheless, the clan still went through two seasons of riots before it was accomplished -- but it was.

Unrest beset the Griffon clan in spades as well, as there continued to be fallout over the death of Lady Eve. With the clan believing that Judanarius had done nothing to punish Mes Brinna, who the clan perceived as the killer of his wife, rioting began and threats of war from the Eagle clan began to mount. When Judanarius would not go ahead and perform a swift trial for Brinna, open revolt began and, in an effort to sooth the clan, Judanarius stepped down as leader if the clan, leading it in a state of flux as he has named Lady High General Zayes, a neo-noble, as the regent for his young daughter, Lady Luna. In the meantime, Zayes herself held the trial, and Brinna was found guilty and executed.

But this did not solve all the problems. Before Judanarius stepped down, there were rumors that he himself was involved in the plot to kill Lady Eve. Although he vehemently denied it, the increasing threats of war from the Eagle clan that caused him to step down were hardly lessened, and it ended with his arrest by the Ranivor to pacify the Eagle clan and prevent an invasion. This, of course, caused yet moire outrage as it seemed thet Judanarius still had his clan medallion in his possession. The former clan leader has since been bailed out, by his brother Jalil, who recently returned from visiting his clan lands.

To add to the inter-clan troubles, Lady Ibania, now proxy for the Cockatrice clan, and her husband, Lord Nydiam, were recently divorced after accusations sprang up that the lady was indiscreet. Given that Lady Ibania was heavily pregnant and gave birth to a son named Banion not long after the divorce, there is a considerable amount of turmoil between the two as the clans try to decide how to deal with this breakup of what seemed the perfect marriage for solving some of the ever-present debate over who is the rightful ruler of the Cockatrice clan.

Most recently, after the Republic was again restored to its former state with the Hydrans being readmitted and the name being changed back to the Republic to signify the return to wholeness and unity of the clans -- although Vahlgellan is still the Ranivor -- another spring festival was celebrated. This time, with all clans in attendance again (for many in the Hydra clan had skipped the last festival due to the expulsion of the clan) the usual shocks did take place. Most notably, a Mer Philander of the Cockatrice Clan chose Lady Proxy Junia Ista Aldrik as his prize when he won the pentathalon. While it is his right, one has to wonder if the Mer knows what he is getting into, marrying into one of the most powerful families in the realms.

On happier notes, several wanted marriages among the royal houses have been announced or have even occurred! Lady Fidelia Ista Aldrik and Lord Banik Istabannos have begun formally courting, and it's about time, many of the people are saying. Princess Inaya and Lord Erythes Ista Aldrik have also wed, with the Lord moving into the palace to be with his new bride. Lord Proxy Argus has married Lady Olena Junik as well. Several births have occurred also, which has caused some good amount of happiness. The new Queen, Eliana, gave birth to a new heir to the throne, named Prince Rislan, after her grandfather the General Riss, who recently died. Her brother, Lord Gavin, and his wife Gellina, also had a son, named Sirio. Lord Kristover Rissik and his wife, Lady Nazeera also had a child, a daughter named Delrisa. As well, lady Pia and Lord Leonus had a daughter, named Teonia, and Lady Xenobia and Lord Primo had a daughter, who was named Prima. Births abound, and pregnancies too!

And now, the troops are off to war, and all the people are geared to support them as they go to make their push towards Ellish. So close, they say... and yet so far away.
