Firanos

From FiranMUX

In the Firan Pantheon, Firanos is the Lord of the Forests. Born of Soli and Zutiv, he is his mother's favorite child. He alone, amongst the elder Gods, went to live with man and the other creatures on his mother's back. Firanos is shy and elusive. No mortal has ever seen his face. Yet, he is the special friend of the Firan people — bringing men many gifts. Firanos has rebelled against Zutiv on a number of occasions by giving men fire and family. He has escaped Zutiv's wrath because Soli intervenes. Firanos' special color is green, and that is why green is the color of peace and harmony. Firanos is a friend to those who negotiate, are diplomatic, and who are loyal to the clans.

Temple of Firanos

The clergy of Firanos are often diplomats, mediators and conciliators, involving themselves in keeping the peace between other Firans. They seek to resolve conflict without war breaking out among the clans. They encourage dialogue and compromise rather than open violence.

Other clergy specialize in wilderness survival, worshiping in the Forest as much as they would in the temple. They excel in living off the land, providing for others that join them in their wildness meditations. Firanosian clergy often get the reputation of being detached from the world, preferring to spend time in the chosen home of the Forest Lord, meditating so deeply they lose track of the world around them.

The third specialization of Firanosian clergy is a certain level of martial skill. Defenders of the defenseless, Firanosians are trained in defensive weaponry and archery, many times serving in the Republic Army to protect Firanos' chosen people from the enemies that seek to subjugate them, the Shamibelians.

Firanosian Ceremonies

Ceremony of Peace

Each year before the war season, a ceremony of peace is held at the temple of Firanos. This is done to remind people why there is war and how all can help to bring peace to the world about the, During the ceremony there are five steps.

  • 1) Ask Firanos to hear the words of his people.
  • 2) Reminder of the daily evils that all face and how to resolve
those conflicts/evils without acts of aggression.
  • 3) Stories of past war times are spoken and reminders of peace are
said. These stories should be reminders of why violence must
not be the only thing that Firans adhere when facing decisions.
  • 4) An explanation of how all can help in the time of war, not only
by fighting but by doing other things that are needed.
  • 5) A prayer to Firanos to ask for guidance and help for obtaining
the peace among the realm.

Ceremony of Agreement

Priests of Firanos are often asked to bless an agreement of negotiation between two parties. Their words of wisdom are always headed, as the priests are thought to have a fairness and not to be on the side of either party. The priest listens to the wants of both sides and then retreats for a moment of solitude of prayer to Firanos. After the priest has given enough thought to the matter, he returns and states his 'ruling' upon the agreement. A toast is then drunk between the two parties and a document is scribed by the priest in which both parties sign.

Ceremony of Connection

Once a month the temple of Firanos takes its priests and those who wish to accompany them deep into the forest for a ceremony of connection. In this ceremony, one is brought into the forest to become connected with nature. No food is brought by those who go upon the journey, instead they eat what is provided by the land. (Plants, fish, small animals etc). They spend a week in the forest, contemplating the nature of each item about them. Often it is the high priest, or someone that the high priest designates, who leads the group of followers in prayer and in stories. Some of those who have taken part in such a ceremony state that it is like a long camp out.
