Overview
GARIS ISTARINIAD
Garis Istariniad lived a long, rich life full of numerous heights and varying lows. He was, first and foremost, a Griffon farmer; a patriotic albeit simple man whose love for his clan and its land knew no bounds. Throughout the course of his life he rose within the ranks of his clan - first in the military, and then in the political avenues via several ministerial position. For the improvements he made to the quality of life enjoyed by the Griffon clan, and for his notorious spunk and take-no-crap attitude towards those of the Gold Dragon clan, Garis was regarded very highly by his clanspeople.
Yet for his success in the world of politics, Garis was significantly less successful in his personal life. Perhaps most notable was the dispute Garis had with a Gold Dragon man by the name of Baristano Aurik over the ownership of a number of land plots; the feud grew so virulent that it dragged the entire Istariniad and Aurik families into the fray. Thus began the birth of Anarinuell's most infamous family feud, which over the ensuing years involved clan leaders, sparked inter-clan wars, and traversed generations.
The feud grew even more heated when accusations began to fly that Garis was attempting to seduce Baristano's wife, Ringora. Even after his marriage to his first wife Zurena, Garis was known for his hot-blooded nature with various rumours of extra-marital affairs throughout the course of their marriage, including one allegedly with Ringora Aurik. Regardless, Zurena and Garis seemed content with each other until Zurena's untimely demise in 0 A.U. when she was devoured by the Beast.
Garis' second marriage came swiftly - too swiftly, some say - to a woman much younger than himself. Unlike his previous marriage to Zurena, Garis' marriage with Anala was wrought with conflict, jealousy, scandal, and an unrelenting passion all surrounding the extra-marital affairs that the two routinely indulged in. While details were largely restricted to gossipy women in the bath house, it all came to a head when a married woman by the name of Imenope claimed to be pregnant with Garis' child - a fact made all the more scandalous given that she also happened to be the younger sister of his second wife Anala and the wife of Draugik, a prominent political figure in the Republic at the time. A duel with Draugik followed the accusation, a duel, which Garis not surprisingly lost to the battle-hardened halfie.
In spite of such scandals, Garis Istariniad was just as well known for his many positive contributions to the Griffon clan as he was for the trials and tribulations of his personal life. After years of scandal in Anarinuell, he left the capital of the Republic to be stationed in the Griffon city of Firalut for the greater half of the last decade of his life. While there, he managed the Firalut restoration project and served to boost morale in the wasteland of a city so close to Shamibelian territory.
Ultimately it was Garis' devotion to the people of his clan that resulted in his demise. Upon hearing news of the violence and unrest that was brewing in Scirlut over the Griffon clan's repossession of the city, he grew restless and unhappy sitting idle in Firalut. With news of the violence growing more intense - with the riot and death counts rising by the day - Garis made the decision to leave Firalut behind in the hopes that he could rally the Griffon people of Scirlut around him and put an end to the senseless bloodshed; an act of bravery and patriotism that would prove fatal.
It was during one such riot in Scirlut that yet another, particularly violent scuffle between Gold Dragons and Griffons broke out in the streets. Never one to sit idly during Griffon brutality at the hands of Gold Dragons, it has been said that Garis Istariniad jumped right into the fray and attempted to take control of the situation. Unfortunately his cries went unheard and the mob soon grew out of control. Once the fires had been quenched and the dust settled, the Scirlut Griffons were horrified to find that on the blood-stained streets lay the lifeless, crumpled body of Garis Istariniad. The news sent shockwaves throughout the Griffon clan, and Griffons all over the Republic mourned deeply for their fallen hero.
Garis' body was transported from Scirlut to Anarinuell, where he was given proper funeral rites so that the rest of his family could pay their final respects. He is survived by his second wife, Anala, and their daughter Judala, as well as his three sons from his first marriage: Zurano, Vinik, and Norius. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Zurena, his sons Galumik, Elikos, and Tuelin, and his daughters Tuelli and Galumnae. His youngest son, Dodon, remains a slave at the hands of the Shamibelians.
