GARUSANI: Place of the Bear Sacrifice
One of the Bear clan's oldest cities, Garusani was a holy place for
the totem worshipping ancient Summans who dwelt in the area. To this
day, an ancient rite is re-enacted there for tourists. There is a
place between two hills where a yearly festival is held. The people sit on
the hills and watch the clan's best warriors wrestle and defeat a bear
in an enclosed area. In ancient times, a holy man would lead the
people in a ceremony revering the bear and then all would feast upon
the bear's roasted flesh in order to ingest the spirit of this holy
totem. Now days, the ceremony is still performed, but most of the
people don't believe in it. Others even believe it's heresy against
the pantheon.
Garusanians are primarily hunters and trappers who maintain small gardens around their homes. There are some farmers too. The Garusanians trade fur and leather for other necessities but are relatively simple people as far as the bear clan goes. They have large families and take pride in their negotiation skills. The city is also important because it is on the border between the Bear and Chimera Clans and much trade takes place between Garusani and Emran.
