Overview
Lady Gemella was born an Ista Aldrik, one of the royal Bear family. Her father, Lord Donos, was from the Nelanos branch of the Ista Aldriks. She grew up with an older brother, Lord Olivander Ista Aldrik, who was her best friend and closest confidante, and a bastard younger sister, Gracine; her father's illegitimate daughter by a courtesan, brought into the Ista Aldrik family to be raised.
In Nelanos, Gemella was known for a keen intellect and love of studying; from an early age, she was fascinated with the financial books for Ista Aldrik lands, and soon found she had a gift for numbers in all their forms. Upon arriving in Anarinuell, Gemella quickly found friendship with her similarly studious cousins, Lady Akiva Ista Alrik and Lady Yvette Didoron. Having grown up without a mother-figure in her life, she soon found she had two; both her aunt, then-Lady-Proxy Fidelia, and her stepmother Clan Leader Zeysani, who it turned out her father had -- in typical Donos fashion -- married in secret without telling anyone.
She even found her first childhood love with young Prince Torianos Elianik. For a while, the two appeared together at nearly all social events, and it was rumored that they would wed to mend the long-standing rift between the Bear and Chimera clans.
As she grew older, Gemella became involved with the Bear clan economy, serving quietly as assistant to Lord Tagali Shadina. And when the Hydra clan nearly collapsed both economically and politically in the wake of the civil war which led to Zeysani's death, Gemella suddenly found herself betrothed not to Torianos, but to the young Hydran clan-leader-to-be, Amenik Istabelik. With a wedding date set and the Hydra on the verge of starvation, the Republic appointed Gemella to sort out the books, sort out how to afford trade goods and bring the clan viable once more... a bitter pill to swallow for the misogynist monotheistic clan, at first.
In time, Amenik and Gemella proved surprisingly well-matched; she did her best to settle into the public role of a Hydran matron. She helped to organize efforts in childcare and healing among the Hydran women, and acted as healer to any Hydran citizen who found themselves in need. During the years they were married she gave Amenik four children: two sons, and two daughters. The first daughter was a near thing, as Gemella supposedly lay near to death from a difficult birthing. In the end, she recovered... only to get pregnant once more, shortly thereafter. Ariella's birth was even more difficult, and it finally claimed Gemella's life on the very eve of her nineteenth birthday.
Amenik was reportedly shattered by his wife's death, and some wonder if he will ever truly recover.
