Overview

GLADIATOR

Gladiators are men and women who fight for sport and the entertainment of the population. Several cities have their own gladiator circuses, including Anarinuell. Their goal is to defeat their opponent without killing him while trying to keep relatively unharmed themselves.

Firan gladiators are comparable to real world professional wrestlers. They usually develop a stage persona, are often gregarious extroverts in public, and seek to claim the championship belt during a season's tournament. Amateur gladiators are often new to the circus and seek to prove themselves to gain a noble sponsor. Professionals are often established and well known.

Socially, a noble is to be envied if he or she sponsors a gladiator, especially if their gladiator can claim the championship. Unlike traditional sponsorees who make money for their noble sponsors, a gladiator's sponsor is responsible for seeing their gladiator well equipped, as a poorly equipped gladiator reflects poorly on his or her sponsor.

Equipment

  • Any weapon, though bigger weapons are flashier
  • Armor

Attributes and Skills

A gladiator does not need to have massively incredible stats, though it helps in coded combat. A gladiator can become popular through sheer force of personality.

Physical stats that are important to gladiators and other combat oriented characters are muscle (how much damage can be inflicted), reflex (defensive dice), and agility (offensive dice.) Stats that affect speed can be found at the Combat Tutorial Timers page.

The various areas of combat that exist in the game and gladiators are likely to focus on are:

  • Unarmed
    • brawling
    • wrestling
  • Armed
    • axes
    • clubs
    • knives (better for small arena combat)
    • spears
    • staves
    • swords (ICly highly popular weapon)
    • whips

Ranged skills such as archery, javelins, slings, and thrown weapons do not have the 'wow' factor that face-to-face drawing blood has in melee combat.

Suggested Roleplay Ideas

  • Get into public arguments with other gladiators (ie, 'chest thumping' arguments, not serious fights.)
  • Hang out at a tavern to get 'face time.'
  • Look for a sponsor.
  • Arrange a spontaneous fight with another gladiator.
  • Spar at one of the training centers.

Remember, as a rule, Firan gladiators try to strenuously avoid death in their fights, as Shamibelians have death matches.
