Guidelines for War
From FiranMUX
Guidelines FOR THE FRONT **IC**
o During the summer months, the Firans typically go to war with the Shamibelians with the intention of recapturing the city of Ellish. Players will get to participate in this event by taking the Military Trireme to Ellish. This can be accessed at the Pier to the west of the city proper. Only military personelle may be admitted to the trireme, and once you embark, you won't be able to return to the city until your tour of duty is over, or without a special pass from one of the Generals.
o Make sure you pay attention to what you bring to the front. Once you are there, there is no going back. A checklist of suggested items is provided before each war season. Make sure all your equipment is fully repaired. The fifth division is responsible for issuing and repairing the kit of all republic military personnel. Have a look at republic kit for details on what equipment is appropriate for your character and how to go about requesting it.
o There is IC communication that goes on between Anarinuell and the front. Usually mail is brought in every RL day or so, depending on the supply line. Bring some scrolls along, write to your family, keep them involved. Remember, just because they are not at the front too doesn't mean they aren't stressing out as much as you are.
o Eat whenever you get the opportunity. It is important to keep your energy as full as possible in case of battles. However it is important not to eat any food on the ground unless you have a death wish (if it's been separated out of a container for you it will end up on the floor. This is ok. As long as it's been watched). Keep some food on you. You may not be able to get to a cook in time.
o Do not bring your insignia. Do not bring any jewelry. Don't bring your keyring. Refrain from bringing things that say "I live here, go this way to get to my house and I have lots of gold and lovely women there."
o Don't salute and don't call anyone by their rank or noble titles. Everyone is 'Sir' or 'Ma'am' here. Do not request or order that you be called by your rank or noble titles.
o Keep your Chain of Command (CoC) in mind. Things are hectic during war time and knowing where you are supposed to be and what you are supposed to be doing is key. Military_divisions should provide a general overview of the military structure but it is unlikely to be totally up to date. Hence you are recommended to use the military commands (specifically military/list and military/over).
o Before you head out for a battle or a mission, please make sure you have everything on you that you need. Archers make sure you have arrows, artillery make sure you have missiles, pilots make sure you have your archers! Keep organized and equipped.
o Do NOT just randomly lock and unlock the forts. Really. It doesn't matter if you know OOCly there won't be a battle for the next 12 RL hours... you DON'T know it ICly. Gates are not toys.
o Do not code fight anyone but your enemy at the front. You may RP being in a spar or practicing, but causing extra damage to yourself needlessly is not smart.
o When you log out, sleep or stay IC. This is VERY important if you want to be healed up. If the healers can not get to your object, you will not be worked on and your damage will most likely still be there for the next battle. For this reason it is also recommended to sleep in the barrack or medical tent depending on the severity of your wounds. Healers cannot be expected to check every tent and field for the wounded. Please keep this in mind.
o Do NOT spam your superior officers with inane requests in messengers. If a general logs on to a ton of messengers from you, detailing all sorts of little things, you are likely to risk some serious IC wrath. Unless it's important, it can probably be dealt with lower in the CoC. Remember that the officers have an awful lot of pressure on them both IC'ly and OOC'ly.
o Disobeying orders from a superior officer is tantamount to treason, and if severe enough, it is punishable by death. Please keep this in mind
o No one will advance without the expressed orders of the appropriate officers. Anyone who does will be assumed to be disobeying orders.
o Battlefields are no joke. If you advance into battlefields which are not currently held by the Firan forces (or without appropriate orders and/or permissions) you may suffer ic consequences from it. Even if it was an ooc accident. You may end up stuck behind the shamibelian front-lines and unable to get back. You may wind up dead.
o Looting is not only against military regulations but it is also against the religious ones. Be sure to read news looting if you are considering it.
o In general anyone that has 30 or more damage to their person will not be allowed to advance. This means that if you have 30 damage total to any parts of your body and there is a general order to move out, you will stay put to be tended to by the medics. The way it works is that we only advance when we believe we can take a good portion of battlefields and still survive resting in a single field, or when we believe that we can actually take the next fort. Your commanding officer can overrule this in certain circumstances and if you are ordered to move out with greater than 30 damage (after you have POLITELY pointed it out. Sometimes the officer will not be aware of the fact) to the officer you are required to muster.
o You can capture Shamibelians to interrogate them for information. However, only certain commanding officers can give permission to keep Shamibelians in the fort or camp. No others may do so. You will want to find out who these higher-ups are. You will also want to find out who can grant permission to interrogate Shamibelians. Do not interrogate without permission. If this rule is disregarded, it will be taken as a capitol offense against the Republic Armed Forces and considered disobeying orders in the highest degree. Mishandling of prisoners can lead to utter defeat if said prisoner escapes.
o Even when we hold a fort the general bulk of the army remains in the military camp. The military camp simply moves to a new location closer to the fort. Luckily this all happens off-screen so you don't have to worry about moving every few days.
o Keep in mind: big battles using the one-on-one combat code can (and often do) lag the entire game. This may be at a degree that is annoying and harmful to your character's health. You have to expect this and prepare for this. You should act preemptively and not wait until the last second. You must keep this in mind and you must make appropriate alterations to the way you fight. Sometimes when this happens the GM will call for a pause in the fighting to let the game catch up. Listen out for this.
o Arrive as early as possible for a battle. This allows the officers in charge to sort out defensive lines which are the most appropriate for everyone. Not only does this relieve some of the pressure on the commanding officer and allow the battle to begin close to the announced starting time but it also means that you have a better chance of being paired with someone who is best suited to your style and abilities.
