REACH

Certain weapons will have a quality called Reach. This allows a defended person to attack a target that is engaged with their defender. Normally, a defended character cannot engage anyone else (their defender gets in the way).

For example, Bob defends Charlie, then Ugly Shami attacks Bob. If Charlie has a spear (with Reach) then he can attack Ugly Shami. This will cause him to attack Ugly Shami without "real" engagement (the Ugly Shami still cannot attack Charlie). Any attempts on Ugly Shami's part to engage Charlie will end up with an engagement to Bob.
