The Clan of the Hydra was ruled under the iron fist of Belik for more decades than most have been alive to remember. Although a benevolent dictator, Belik imposed harsh laws and strict obedience to uniform codes of conduct, values, and religion.

Persons born into this clan grow up in a spartan, but not deprived, environment. They like things plain, and simple. They value serious scholarship, hard work, and a quiet existence. They are, almost uniformly, monotheistic Zutivians -- and do not tolerate religious diversity in their ranks. Also of note is their tendency to view women as being either somewhat inferior, or at least relegated to their "proper" roles in society. Above all, members of the Clan of the Hydra hate change and innovation. Risky ventures are met with strong disapproval. Belik married young Senika Junik in hopes of providing his clan with a heir. They had a daughter, Seliana, who was kidnapped and is believed to be held by the Regime. Recently, the Hydra heir, Amenik, was born, and he is kept closely-guarded by Belik and is much-beloved of the clan.

In 21 A.U., the Hydra clan split from the Republic and left the city of Anarinuell, and left the unity of the clans. A year later, after negotiations between the Ranivor Vahlgellan and Clan Leader Belik, through Princess Selene, the Hydra clan returned and joined the New Republic.

In the beginning of 33 A.U., the Hydra clan faced another civil war when, in a dispute with then Viceroy Sadin, Lord regent Rodellos resigned his Regency. In the ensuing chaos, Lord Pavan N'Gato, long thought to be dead, attempted to lay claim to the Regency and launched an attack against the Eagle lands as his father, Lord Gadiste had done before him. He was revealed to be a pawn of Lord Draugik Vasen-Drakas when the N'Gato lord was assasinated and the Half-shamibelian attempted to claim the throne in the name of Prince Vahlgellan.

Clan Leader Zeysani and her High General, Lady Ishani Tanelish, went to Arinzi themselves to direct troops and fight the war. Zeysani was captured by the traitorous Lord Draugik and after she refused to surrender to him she was executed. Vahlgellan had a brief reign as Regent, but was captured by Republic forces soon afterwards. He died mysteriously in his cell and rumors suggest the Lanesh may somehow have been involved. The Hydran Clan was then occupied by the Republic for the duration of Amenik's regency, and then in 35 A.U. Amenik was finally coronated as the next Clan Leader of the Hydran Clan.
