The Ista Aldrik Family -- led by Sabine (Royal House: Bear) Colors: red/yellow

The Ista Aldrik family is said to be headed by Sabine, as is only proper due to her status as the leader of the Bear Clan, but Sabine often left most of the responsibilities to her niece, Sarcia. Sabine is widely known as a patroness of the poor and unprivileged, as well as a defender of noble privilege. Though Sabine and all her children are technically members of this family, Sabine's children go by the name Elianik and it is politically wise to keep the separation in mind. These days the family is led by Fidelia, who is the Bear clan leader in Sabine's absence.

Other members of the Ista Aldrik family include Sarcia's children: Lady Gellina, Lord Aldrikos, and Lady Aldrissa. Newer additions from the Caldera City include Lord Thaddeus, Lady Petrina, and Lord Erythes. More family members have arrived from the city of Nelanos: Lady Fidelia and Lady Junia. Of all of these family members, only Fidelia, Petrina, and Aldrikos are yet living. Some might say it has been a dark time for the family since the departure of Queen Sabine.

Lord Aldrikos appeared to have been tragically killed on a trip shortly after his marriage to Lady Bashona while he was with his mother and his sister Aldrissa (see 'news aldrikos') -- he was later reunited with his family having returned on a Vrelander ship as a Knight of the FrostReaver (a Vrelander title). Sarcia and Aldrissa had relocated to Nelanos to care for a sick relative, but both later returned. Sabine named Junia as her proxy, as Sarcia, her once-proxy was away in Nelanos until after Sabine's departure to Vreland.

When the Mind Plague struck in February 21 A.U., Junia was one of the victims. However, unlike the others, she neither died nor recovered, remaining in a coma, and leaving her sister Fidelia the proxy for the time being. Further tragedy struck the family when Lord Thaddeus died from poisoned food during the war season of that year. And, in September of that year, Fidelia disowned Aldrissa for 'a scandal of a prurient nature' and sentenced her to the Dove as per Queen Sabine's famous decree about proper behaviour for Ista Aldrik women. Aldrissa, however, fled to Hydra lands and was accepted as family by Clan Leader Belik. She was convicted of treason in absentia, and once more when she was returned to Anarinuell. Her hair shorn, she was drug through the streets, sentenced to work in the White Dove and stripped of her title. Later that same year, however, she was readmitted into the family, and rebestowed her title. Within weeks, she was married into the Ista Barun family, and given to the clan of the Chimera.

Petrina had been engaged to Lord Sabinus Rissik for over two years, and Fidelia was finally engaged, to Lord Banik Istabannos, Erythes' marriage to Princess Inaya and Gellina's marriage to Lord Gavin Rissik had been the only Ista Aldrik marriages up to 24 A.U. The Bear clan was quite antsy over the dearth of heirs in the family, but the younger generation has grown -- Junia's daughter by her marriage to Pertinax, Laurelia, for one; Fidelia's children Sabiana, Aldrin and Julea for another; and Gellina's children Akiva and Sirio.

At the Spring Festival in 21 A.U., one Mer Philander Jaffus chose Lady Junia for his pentathlon prize, therefore becoming Lord Philander Ista Aldrik, a member of the family. A few short months into the marriage he was accused and found guilty of embezzlement, and he and Junia divorced. He was, however, still a member of the Ista Aldrik family, until his death in October 24 A.U. when he was executed for treason by the Clan Council, for having spoken up against his Clan Proxy, his former wife, Lady Junia.

At the Spring Festival of 24 A.U. Lady Junia was once again chosen as marriage prize, this time by Lord Pertinax Didoron(d). He joined the Ista Aldrik family as her husband. Later that same year, the [[Gold Dragon - Bear War]] broke out, for the failure of going through with two marriages that were supposed to shape a bond between the clans: the marriages of Lord Aldrikos Ista Aldrik to Lady Leyla Firgalik, and Lord Halakeye Firgalik to Lady Fidelia Ista Aldrik. The Bear Clan could not withstand the Alliance of Gold Dragon Clan, Cockatrice Clan, Eagle Clan and Ticanee Clan and Lady Junia was forced to give up both staff of the High Priestess that she held for Clan Leader Sabine, and the clan medallion. She became a member of the Didoron Family and the Cockatrice Clan.

Lady Petrina had been engaged to Lord Sabinus Rissik(d) for a few years, but when he was claimed by Lady Yasha Iberik as her Spring Festival marriage prize in 23 A.U. the engagement found its unnatural end, a mere days before the scheduled wedding. She was then later married to Griffon Clan Leader Judanarius, shortly before the Shamibelian Air Raid of 24 A.U. Not much later Judanarius took ill and so it was Lady Petrina, as his Proxy, who led the Griffon Clan for almost a year, until Jalil claimed his brother's medallion to rule both the Gold Dragon and Griffon Clan. In the aftermath of the removal of Junia as Bear Proxy, Lord Taleo Teranzik was named Proxy for the Bear Clan and he was divorced from Ticanee Clan Leader Taria Oshta, so he could marry Petrina and take the Ista Aldrik name, so that a member of this Royal Bear family would hold the medallion. They married in May of 25 A.U.

The greatly desired Gold Dragon-Bear marriages that were to unify two clans finally took place and Lord Aldrikos left the Ista Aldriks and the Bear Clan to become Lord Aldrikos Firgalik of the Gold Dragon Clan, in January 25 A.U., while Lord Halakeye (d) joined the Ista Aldrik family and the Bear Clan through marriage to Lady Fidelia in February 25 A.U. After the execution of Lord Sabinus and Clan Leader Akinita, Lady Gellina returned to the Ista Aldrik family, both her and her husband Gavin taking the Ista Aldrik name, and he joined the Bear Clan. This was not to last long, as Lady Gellina and Lord Gavin divorced in late 25 A.U. and he returned to the clan and family of his birth.

Lord Halakeye perished on the Ellish front when a healer ministering to his injuries failed to save him. As the healer, Odoni Istanar, was herself a servant of the Bear clan, she was at first accused of having killed Halakeye on Fidelia's behalf. Though the accusations proved groundless, some Gold Dragons still regard Halakeye as a martyr who was killed by the Ista Aldriks. Fidelia and Halakeye had two children -- a son, Aldrin, and a daughter, Sabiana -- before he perished. Fidelia then remarried Lord Jaran Iberik, and they had a daughter -- Julea -- before Lord Jaran died of a heart attack. Before he passed away, it is said that Jaran left the entire Iberik family estate to Julea, a claim which has never been substantiated but which has only further heightened tensions with the Iberiks which began with Lady Yasha's marriage prize.

Lord Donos Ista Aldrik, Fidelia's full brother, arrived in Anarinuell with his daughter Gemella in tow. There was a great deal of fuss about the dashing pilot's arrival, and pleasure at having another Ista Aldrik lady in residence at the estate. Lady Gemella did the family proud, marrying the heir to the Hydran throne and becoming wife to Clan Leader Amenik. She gave him two sons and two daughters before dying tragically young in childbirth with the second daughter; two clans mourned her death, and many more, for she was well-beloved.

Donos was married to Zeysani in somewhat mythic circumstances, or so it is said; the two appeared blissfully happy. To all rumors he was devastated upon her death. They have two children, Daranos and Nazina. Several years after her passing, though, Donos remarried, this time to Lady Pia Teranzik. The Bear clan seemed pleased at the lady's rise, as she had served the clan well as a proxy for many years, in addition to serving the Griffon clan as a regent.

In the spring of 38 A.U., Fidelia married Lord Docci Shadina, formerly of the Ista Barun family. They as of yet have no children together.
