Background

There are rumors about this noble family that they went off to the clan of the Chimera with Elianos in his youth under a cloud of disgrace, but because of the Great War, most of the specifics of this controversy are not accessible. As a consequence, the loyalty of this family to Akinita, former Chimera Clan Leader, was unquestioned -- until Adrastus' acts of disloyalty during the absence of Akinita's proxy, Sabinus Rissik, that is.

After the tragic death of Wirk Ista Barun during the mysterious "Mind Sickness" of 21 A.U, Adrastus took over the household as head briefly until 23 A.U at which time, Aldrissa, nee Ista Aldrik, gained the leadership of this house after Adrastus's death and dishonor. Despite a somewhat troubled life in Anarinuell, Lady Phaidra Ista Barun, one of the few female members of the Ista Barun family, died heroically during the war season of 21 A.U. when the Shamibelians captured the healer and used her as a human shield. Adrastus' brother Battus remained a member of the Ista Barun Family, retaining his noble title. Lord Vilis, once a member of the family was cast out and stripped of noble title for his involvement in the coup Adrastus had planned. He was thereafter a member of the Marcus Family, a commoner branch of the Ista Baruns, and he lost his life with a lot of his relatives after the failed Antonian Apostasy.

In September of 24 A.U., Lord Quintallus Ista Barun wed Mes Nevra Jaffus of the Cockatrice Clan, thus making her Lady Nevra. Lady Aldrissa named her Acting HoH for while she herself was absent. Lord Quintallus' brother Trikon had caused a minor uproar a year before, after purchasing the Spring Festival prize from the Vrelander Vorgan, using it to marry Lady Bashona Istabannos.

In January of 25 A.U., when the Rissik Family had been replaced as Royal House in the Chimera Clan, all remaining Ista Baruns left the Chimera Clan, joining the Bear Clan instead at the price of two plots of land each for the Ista Aldrik and Teranzik families. In late 25 A.U. Lord Quintallus was executed by hanging, after he had confessed to committing treason against the Bear Clan.

Lord Docci, brother to Vilis, arrived in the city shortly after that, joining his family in the Bear Clan. He married the widowed Lady Nevra, and they had a son, Devran and a daughter, Sitara, and Erianthe, born after their divorce, along with Nevra's child from her first marriage, Vaquira.

In the end, the disgrace that seemed to follow the family at every turn, brought them to its apparent end in the Bear Clan. In 30 A.U. Lord Battus was found guilty of the murder of Lady Aldrissa in an attempt to wrest control of the family from her. He was executed by hanging, and Lady Proxy Fidelia Ista Aldrik dissolved the Bear noble family. Lady Nevra and Lord Docci were forcibly divorced, making him marry Lady Zelva Shadina, while Lord Trikon was married to Lady Xamori Teranzik. Lady Nevra was at a later point accepted into the Ticanee Clan. Lady Zelva bore Lord Docci two children, Naxas and Leander, before their marriage ended in divorce for reasons that have thus far not been made public. Trikon and Xamori had one child, Nilara, before Trikon was killed during the summer war campaign of 31 A.U.

Lady Proxy Junia Didoron used the dissolution of the Ista Barun Family by Lady Proxy Fidelia as an opportunity to invite more nobility into the Cockatrice Clan, and extended an invitation to all Ista Baruns of Lady Witara's line to join them. Lord Erato Ista Barun and his wife, Lady Sophia Ista Barun accepted their position as heads of the noble Ista Barun family in the Cockatrice Clan. They rejected any authority of Lady Fidelia's to dissolve their noble house, and brought with them a social perk, as Lord Erato was the Vice Mayor of the Caldera city, conferring onto the Cockatrice Clan some small portion of prestige and power in the extra trading routes now available to the clan and raising the morale of the clan as well.

The arrival of the Sennet Family, freed from slavery in Ellish saw a resurgence of interest in this family - namely because one Lord Marthin was formerly a member of that family, and thus his children could claim the same lineage. They all were accepted into the Griffon Clan as members of the Sennet family soon after, however.

Famous and Infamous Family Members

  • Erato Ista Barun -- He's known as the 'Vice Mayor of the Caldera City'. He's extremely powerful, wealthy beyond measure, and has shown a surprising knack at political survival that extends to his numerous heirs and descendants. It is said that his wife, Sophia is so fertile that she continued to have children for him well into her forties, but there are rumors that the two of them were simply faking her pregnancies to disguise the adoption of Erato's bastards.

Tragedies

  • Brain Damaged Daughter. One of Erato and Sophia Ista Barun's young daughters was thrown from a horse and lost her memory. Some say that she became an idiot. Others said that the ruin of the girl broke her mother's heart. Whatever the cause, the girl was sent away to the Temple of Unot in the Caldera City.

(?) Lord Stero and Lady Fia are presumed dead, because they were taken prisoner
by the shamibelians during the Great War, along with their young sons, Marthin
and Palasio. They had not been seen nor heard from since, and were presumed
dead until 36 A.U., when a group of nobles were rescued from Ellish, Marthin
being among them, though married to a Sennet noble, Geesha.

* Executed, banished, stripped of title or married out of the family.

! After the death of her first husband Quintallus, Lady Nevra chose to marry
Lord Docci Ista Barun. After Lord Docci divorced Lady Nevra, he went on to marry
Lady Zelva Shadina.
