This neo-noble House was led by Lady High General Zayes Vasen-Darkas who won her title in the Fall Pentathlon of 20 A.U. Military commitments of both the head of house and her husband, Lord Centurion Vahseli, had precluded any major social undertakings for the Griffon family, but both of them served as Clan Proxies for Clan Leader Judanarius. Other members of the Vasen-Darkas Family include Lady Srenni, who is the daughter of Zayes and Vahseli, and Lady Carana, Lord Esen and Lady Ranazeel who were adopted when Lord Vahseli's 'aunt' and 'uncle' succumbed to the Breath Plague.
In the summer of 24 A.U. the Vasen-Darkas received a rather unusual addition to the family that caused quite the social ruckus, when the half-Shamibelian General Draugik chose Lady Ranazeel as his wife with the Marriage Prize he had won at a Spring Festival Pentathlon, thus joining the family and becoming Lord Draugik Vasen-Darkas, the haffie noble. He and Ranazeel had several children, though they were killed in the aftermath of his own betrayal.
In November of 25 A.U. the family lost one of its members, none other than Lord Vahseli himself. He was banished from Griffon lands and stripped of nobility for the crime of treason, and soon afterwards Lady Zayes divorced him. As part of his sentence had been to never enter Griffon territory again and he continued to spy on his former family, entering the Griffon District while he did so, he was sentenced to death in January of 27 A.U.
During the war season of 27 A.U. Zayes was instrumental in the recapturing of Fort Sacrifice, but at a heavy price. It is said that negotiations between the Firans and Shamibelians went awry and Zayes paid with her life during the ensuing battle. It is said that blue holy flames erupted around her body, knocking back everything within view. The flames flickered up like a ward to those who would desecrate Srenna's fallen High Priestess and a war cry was heard in the distance. The Fort was renamed in her honor, and the Vasen-Darkas family became known thereafter as the Ista Zayes family.
On August 13th 39 A.U. Lord Proxy Judanus Corinala decreed that the Ista Zayes Family would be dissolved and joined with the Sennet family, creating a neo-noble branch of the family.
June 17th, 44 AU, Clan Leader Luna split the Sennet and the neo-noble Ista Zayes Family back apart, recreating the two houses. Lady Carana become Head of Household and was joined by her husband Srennik and all their children. Also joining the Ista Zayes' was Lady Imoen, her husband Lord Zeynus, and Lady Srenni.
