Istabannos Family History

Family members include Bannos, his wife the Lady Shara Istabannos, his daughters, Lady Ibania Istabannos and Lady Bashona Istabannos, and his son Banik. The family also includes Bannos' grandsons through Lady Bashona, Lord Rikon IstaNydiam (married to Clan Leader Diamia IstaNydiam) and Lord Adan N'Gato, who were mistakenly thought dead as children during the Air Raids of 24 A.U. This was the ruling family of the Cockatrice Clan, and though no one speaks of the origins of noble blood for this family, everyone knows that it came from Bannos' notorious father, Lanester. Bannos and Shara came to power, when in fulfillment of a prophesy, the two held hands while wearing a pendant given to them by the Goddess Eesha and disappeared before a crowd of hundreds of people -- casting no reflection into the pond in front of the Palace in Sarkaran. The people are eager for Bannos' children to enter into arranged marriages that they approve of so that their fears about the Regime will not come to pass. In 16 A.U., Bannos and Shara had a third daughter, Katriva. Tragically however she was kidnapped from their estate and believed to have been murdered. Their son Banik offended Zutiv in some way and was a golden statue with the word 'HUBRIS' on the base -- he became unstatuefied in early 21 A.U.. He returned to statue form in early 25 A.U., where he remains on display in the Temple of Zin.

In 17 A.U., the notorious Old City Crime Lord Pangaros won the Spring pentathlon and claimed Lady Ibania with his marriage prize. Citing a little-known (some say made-up) courtship clause, Bannos insisted that the couple must wait six months before consummating their marriage, and in that time Pangaros' water sickness and heavy negotiations led to a peaceful divorce. Pangaros retained the Istabannos name and noble title, however, and was wed in 23 A.U. to High Priestess of Eesha Isa Istabannos. Also in 23 A.U., Lord Trikon Ista Barun became Lord Trikon Istabannos by using a purchased marriage prize to claim the hand of Lady Bashona Istabannos in marriage. This marriage did not last very long, as Lady Bashona disappeared without a trace at the time of the Shamibelian Air Raid of 24 A.U., together with her children Rikon and Adan. It was later revealed, Drikkists killed her and the children, killing their souls, an unspeakable crime. The children were not actually killed though and they have returned to Anarinuell.

There are currently no members of the family bearing the name 'Istabannos'. Lady Ibania fell from power and disappeared mysteriously after having been arrested by the Republic; Lady Bashona is still missing, presumably in the Shamibelian lands, Lord Banik is a statue, and Lady Katriva is long thought dead or missing. Both the children of Ibania and Bashona bear other names, relating to their marriages or to their fathers. It is not known if the family name will ever be revived, but one thing is relatively certain -- Bannos himself, should he ever return, will come back to an empty and decimated house.

Adan N'Gato was at first the acknowledged son of Lady Bashona and Prince Sadin Elianik. However, when Lord Atreides returned from the dead, the Religious Council decreed that Lady Bashona and Prince Sadin were never legally wed, and that Adan was a bastard. His nobility itself was in doubt for some time until Clan Leader Nydiam IstaNydiam recognized him as a member of the IstaBannos line. There was some hope that Adan would regain his princehood when his father claimed Adan as his own during the Scirlut conflict in 36 A.U.. When Lord Adan would not speak in support of Sadin's actions in Scirlut, Prince Sadin once again rejected him.
