Overview
Lord Jalil Firgalik is the most recent former Clan Leader of the Gold Dragon Clan.
He spent his childhood in the Cockatrice Clan, but was known most prominently for being the son of the Griffon Clan Leader, Tazi. He became an ardent Griffon Clan nationalist and war hero, and he was widely beloved in the Griffon Clan, considered their young prince. He never passed up an opportunity to snub the Gold Dragon clan nor to remind them of their butchery in Scirlut. He promised the clan that he would win back their city for them one day, though it was never clear if he meant Ellish or Scirlut and they believed him and loved him for it.
That all started to change when it was revealed that Jalil was actually the grandson of the The Butcher of Scirlut. He would go on to lead the very clan he fought against, and many said that he became the very thing he hated.
While there are many complains about the Clan Leader over the years, he is also well-known for being a brilliant strategist in the line of leaders such as Firgalas and Elianos. As an innovator and a tactician, he helped drive the Firans quest to determine how the Shamibelian Firebombs work.
Ranks & Offices
- Clan Leader of the Gold Dragon Clan (former)
- High General of the Firan Military (current)
Family Life
Parents
- Clan Leader Tazi of the Griffon Clan: Jalil remembers his mother as a very calm person in the face of danger. Most of his early life brings forth memories of fear and worry from her. Eventually, she would become the leader of the Griffon Clan. She was a strong influence in his life and had strong morales. Any good Gold Dragon male knows to honor his mother because she brought him into this world.
- Lord Lanester of the Cockatrice Clan: Jalil's step-father. Jalil claims to have seen the man die at the hands of Shamibelians during the Exodus and claims that it is not possible that Lanester could have committed the crimes he was accused of in the Lanesh Uprising in the Caldera City.
- Clan Leader Judano Firgalik of the Gold Dragon Clan: General Judano Firgalik was Jalil's true father though he would not find this out until he was much older. During his early years, Jalil was sure that his father was Lord Lanester. Jalil hated Judano not only for being the leader of the Gold Dragon Clan but also flirting with his own mother. At the end of his life, Judano gave his own to save Jalil when they were on a mission to save Princess Inaya. By the time Jalil found out Judano was his true father, it was too late to get to know the man. One of the reminders of his father, Jalil often carried Judano's sword with him when he went into battle.
Siblings
- Judanarius. Jalil has only one known sibling, which may be why he has risked his fame and fortune for his brother's sake so often. Even so, Judanarius is his half-brother by his mother. He has no full-blooded siblings of any kind, which may explain some part of his essential character.
Marriage
- Taria: Jalil and the Ostha's relationship can be said to have been one of passion whether it was their strong relationship or the fiery fights that occurred between them. For example, while out of town, the Ticanee Civil War erupted leaving Taria as a new clan leader. When Jalil came home, they fought over custody of their children and Taria arrested him. While some might say their arguments are no less fiery, everyone might agree that their shared children serve as a reminder of the bond the two leaders once had.
- Kameelya: Jalil married Lady Kameelya as his third wife. He was able to manage it by using a marriage prize he earned for winning a Pentathlon. While it might have been surprising for him to marry the widow of Lord Atreides, it did not seem that off-kilter as Lady Kameelya was known to be a very good Gold Dragon woman. This image would end, however, with rumors and scandal. In the end, Lord Rogik would announce to the city that his mother was found guilty of attempting to poison the Clan Leader. For her crime, Lady Kameelya was executed.
Children
Clan Leader Jalil had two legitimate sons by his first wife, the savage, Taria Oshta of the Ticanee, and one adopted daughter:
- Ojitar Firgalik, Jalil's eventual heir to the throne
- Judanus Corinala nee Firgalik, Jalil's second son, a widely hated figure amongst Gold Dragons for his role in the Scirlut War.
- Lilana Didoron nee Firgalik, widely thought to be Jalil's bastard daughter by a commoner named Galena, Lady Lilana's nobility was a matter of dispute throughout her life until she died young, giving birth to a son by her husband Zerasmus.
Clan Leader Jalil also had children by his second wife, Lady Emeelya:
Accomplishments
War Hero
Even after his retirement from the Gold Dragon throne, Jalil is known as an excellent Air Force Pilot. Throughout the years, stories of his dashing griffon-flying heroics have motivated young men of the Gold Dragon clan to join the military and get their own wings.
The First Gold Dragon Civil War
The Second Gold Dragon Civil War
The Third Gold Dragon Civil War
The Alliance War
Red Dragons
While not exactly an accomplishment per se, the existence of the Red Dragons seems to be a delicate balance for Firans that is rarely reached otherwise. During the summer of 27 A.U., then proxy Lady Ibania made a speech that declared herself as Clan Leader which she later retracted. The Bear Clan and Gold Dragon Clan invaded the Cockatrice Clan and the Gold Dragon Clan inherited Sarkaran as a result. After giving some time for the polytheistic Cockatrice to leave the city, it was officially declared to be part of the Gold Dragons. Even today there exists a very small faction of polytheists who chose to be Gold Dragons and are known as the Red Dragons. While the Red Dragons are frowned upon by their monotheistic clan members, it is a fairly rare and surprising faction.
Clan Leader's Father
The Gold Dragon throne has long been a subject of a good many on-lookers that wished to have a piece of it. After many years and a long rule, Jalil was able to retire and give the throne to his son, Ojitar. While this event had mixed blessings due to Ojitar's heritage, the coronation of Jalil's son as a whole marked a time where Gold Dragons felt celebratory and empowered.
Enemies
The Ista Aldriks
It is often difficult to place Jalil's relationship with the Ista Aldriks. On some levels, he seems to get along fine with them even going so long as to court Lady Petrina and to agree occasionally and work together with the Bears. Then on the other hand, there are situations such as his courtship of Petrina in which he seemed to be courting several women at once and completely angered the very well-mannered Bear family.
Prince Solgarik
Ranivor Vahlgellan
Lord Quentino Firgalik
Firuell Aurik
Firuell Aurik was one of the sons of Lord Baristano Manosik, before his ennobling and marriage out of the Aurik family. Firuell was always the most outspoken of Baristano's sons when it came to his opinions on Jalil. First showing signs of treason during the Great Dream, Firuell sided with then-Ranivor Vahlgellan against his Clan Leader, and ended up dead by Jalil's hand in the process. Upon waking, Jalil decided that Firuell would never be allowed to command Gold Dragon troops, for fear of his turning against the Clan Leader. This led to Firuell's Gold Dragon rank remaining at the Centurian level while he continued to be promoted in the Republic Guard until he finally reached the rank of High General and Jalil had no real options left.
It was after Jalil gave away Scirlut to his son Judanus that Firuell actually went against his Clan Leader. Firuell left Anarinuell with his family and 25% of the Gold Dragon military and joined the Blood Dragons in Scirlut, shortly thereafter becoming one of their leaders. After the war he returned to the city, pardoned by the Republic. Firuell quickly left the Gold Dragon clan, however, to join the Chimera Clan. When Firuell got mixed up in the Antonian Apostasy, Jalil and others scorned by Firuell's past actions made sure that the ex-General never again had an opportunity to rebel and Taleo had him executed for his crimes. Jalil was the only witness, aside from the executioner, to the man's death.
Prince Sadin
Lord Argus Firgalik
Lady Throgana Zutivik
Lady Throgana is the daughter of Throg and was thrust into nobility by winning a Pentathlon. She was very important to the Gold Dragon Clan and Jalil up until the Gold Dragon Civil War led by Lord Atreides. She did not fare as well as the other man did and ended up banished from the clan for speaking out against Jalil. She joined the Chimera Clan and later disappeared and is assumed to have been kidnapped by the Shamibelians.
Lady Leyla Firgalik
It's often difficult to place Lady Leyla as an ally or an enemy in Jalil's life. She always seemed loyal and drawn to him at some points and then vindictive and vengeful at other points. During the Scirlut War, Leyla made claims that Jalil had seduced her.
Allies
Clan Leader Taria Oshta
Clan Leader Zeysani of the Eagle Clan
Lord Zafir Junik
Lord Atreides Keniwik
Lord Atreides had an up and down relationship with Jalil. He was the bodyguard of the Firgalik girls and was especially noted for taking care of Lady Lucretia. When Lord Argus died, Atreides rose the the forefront of a Civil War. It was very apparent that he was most concerned with the state of the clan and its traditions. It is likely that it was his Gold Dragon passion that saved him and allowed himself and Jalil to reconcile the matter between the two. Lord Atreides would go on to be Jalil's proxy. He would eventually find a heroes death after killing the Shamibelian known as Balthan.
Lady Lucretia IstaNydiam
Lady Lucretia has always been openly a big fan of Jalil. Granted, some of their days have been rocky but at the end of the day she has supported him and his son, Ojitar. One time, when she felt Jalil didn't care for her anymore, she became a Polytheistic Priestess of Zutiv to get his attention. It worked and he ended up slapping her in the forum. Since she was sure that he indeed still cared for his cousin, she stopped being a Priestess and went back to her monotheistic ways.
Scandals
Festival Executions
Jalil had Lady Olena Firgalik, widow of Lord Argus Firgalik, executed during a Spring Festival. His actions were in violations of the festival peace required during those bi-yearly celebrations. This act was made more scandalous by the fact that she was very obviously pregnant at the time.
Lady Lilana
When Lilana was first adopted, an attempt was made to make her a noble. A big fuss was made about inheritance rights and she remained a commoner in the Ostha/Firgalik household. Eventually, Lilana would go on to marry Lord Dedalion and be graced with a noble title of her own.
Numerous Wives
Jalil has had numerous wives over the years including Taria, Emeelya and Kameelya. He also has had numerous wife prospects in his time including women such as Lady Petrina and Lady Selia and even then Lady Fidelia herself!
Possible Polytheism
Prior to his rise in the Gold Dragon Clan, Jalil was noted as being a follower of Uf. Though he most certainly worshiped Zutiv as the Gold Dragon Clan leader, there were always questions as to whether he was true to his faith. Contrary to this scandal, however, Jalil also has been heavily supportive of the True Temple of Zutiv over the years and given priests such as Father Rasmus a very long leash to do their work.
Affairs with Noblewomen
Possible Secret Marriages and Bastards
Gruffle?
Over the years, Jalil has fought the image that he is somehow a pagan Gruffle. A Gruffle is a Gold Dragon term for a member of the Griffon Clan. Jalil had to face many struggles in his career over the image that he was a pagan bent on molding the Gold Dragons into something closer to his roots.
