Overview

JEWELER

Nobles love jewelry! Of course, people of all social classes do, but nobles are where you can expect to make your most money from.

While selling to the market is acceptable, you a better way is to take commissions from nobles to make specialized and customized jewelry for them.

Equipment

The tools of the trade are 'Jeweler's tools' for jewelry made from metal, and 'Leatherworker's tools' for jewelry made from bone. A jeweler that is making metal jewelry must have access to a forge. Some jewelers might sell their pieces through a PC-owned shop.

Metals in order of prestige are platinum, gold, silver, and copper.

Gemstones are often added to pieces. The types of gemstones that exist in the Firan world are amethysts, emeralds, jade, obsidian, sapphires, diamonds, opals, topaz, garnets, rubies, turquoise, amber, pearls and Elianosite. Most gems can be acquired from miners, though pearls are found by fishermen from shucking oysters.

Attributes and Skills

The primary skills for making jewelry is smithing/precious for jewelry made from metals, and leatherworking for bone jewelry, and coordination is important for such delicate work.

Game commands

The 'make' command is the primary command for the creation of all objects. For making a fire in a forge, the 'help light fire' file details the syntax of the command. The command 'appraise' will tell information such as quality and value and for jewelry is based off the appraisal/luxury items. Knowing what is currently 'all the rage,' the fashion skill is helpful, though mostly for reflecting the character's knowledge of current fashion trends.

Jewelry pieces are able to be customized by players. The commands that assist in this are 'name' and 'describe'. Restrictions on customizations are found in 'help customizing.' To put pieces of gemstones on the piece, the 'ornament' command may be used.
