Joie Mageeran, widow of Dryphus Mageeran, is most notably known as a nanny to the N'Gato Family. She has three children, Matik, Nyopi, and Drysias.

Overview
Joie Mageeran was born Joie Rianavalu. Adopted daughter of Hugannelli and Dantana Rianavalu. It is heard that her mother and father were very absent parents and that she and her sister were bounced from home to home, relative to relative. This has caused quite the rift between Joie and her parents. But it has brought her closer to her sister, Perle. Joie grew up worried that people would compare her to her mother and think that she would also bring the family pain and become a very bad mother to her children. She started at a young age learning to cook and clean and learning manners and proper times to speak.
She was married into the Mageeran household, to a man named Zateen. They were married for only two months before he was sent to Ellish to war. He was killed there, in the year 37 AU. While Joie was pregnant with their son, Matik. He didn't even get to see his son born into the world. She is now remarried to her second husband, Dryphus. They are very much in love and have a daughter, Nyopi. Joie is determined to be a good mother and wife to her husband and children. She will do everything she can to make sure that happens.
She cleans everything. She finds that cleaning calms her. She loves to clean. If there is even one thing out of place, she must fix it. Sometimes, its as if the woman thinks that the more she cleans, the more she can scrub her mother's bad influence out of her life and the stain will not live on in her own family and life. She is a nanny, at the moment, she is employed by the N'Gato family and finds their children a delight to teach and look after.
Personality and Beliefs
Joie is quiet and shy, and cares most about making sure that things are the way they're supposed to be. In fact, the thing which will make her come out of her shyness the fastest is if something is out of order, or if someone is behaving poorly -- she will see it as her duty to correct the situation. She is a gentle soul, though, and is genuinely kind and sweet, and it is extremely rare that anyone could say her behavior is offensive or improper. She prides herself on being well-kept and proper at all times. Her one foray into a borderline area is her music. She loves to sing and play the harp, although she keeps it limited to religious or clan-supporting music, and doesn't perform or anything scandalous like that. She teaches the children she takes care of to sing as a way of instructing them in religious and clan dogma.

Dryphus - Joie met Dryphus for the first time when they were children. He was being beaten up by his obnoxious brother in the market square. Joie felt a certain doting kindness toward him instantly. A few years later they met again and he had grown into a man. So very tall and polite. Joie counted him as a good friend even before they married and as they spent more time together, their feelings grew rapidly into something so strong that it almost ruined both of their standings in the clan. The warmth and manner in which they express their feelings for one another has always been particularly un-Hydran and that may be the reason that they had such a difficult time in the period before they were married. Even now that they're wed, Joie still has a hard time acting the way that she wants to with him because they are so much more passionate with each other than Hydrans are supposed to be. It's difficult being perfect when your clan says one thing and your heart another.
Children
Matik - Matik is her son with Zateen. He has his father's heavy brow and is growing to be large like his father was. This is not for no reason, for the little boy adores sweets of all kinds, and the only way to pacify his foul temper is to ply him with junk food. He does not like to go outside - in fact, whenever he is in close proximity to foliage he starts having sneezing fits that make him miserable - but if someone tempts him with a picnic he will behave until dessert comes. All things culinary fascinate him, and when he is not eating he loves to watch someone else cooking. Smells and tastes fascinate him more than sights or sounds ever could. Joie lets him sit in the kitchen with her, but it would be improper to let him help. That's a woman's job. She has been trying to get him to go out on the farm with Ameer more often, he's old enough to at least spend some time outside with the men.
Nyopi - Nyopi is her daughter with Dryphus. She is mama's little angel. She is by far a very proper and spitting image of her mother. She follows Joie around where ever she goes. Has her hands in the cooking and the cleaning. She is dutiful in her lessons, even at such a young age, but she has bright eyes that Joie just knows means she wants to learn more. She is a quiet child, which is perfect for a young Hydran girl - its only .. she won't stop sucking on her thumb, which is something that Joie will have to break her of. Its just not proper behavior.
Parents
Dantana - Joie's mother Dantana is a disgrace. She was in and out of Joie's life whenever she felt like it, first leaving when Perle was an infant, then coming back years later -- Joie thinks mostly because Hugannelli was engaged to another woman finally and Dantana couldn't stand it. There were a few happy years then, but Joie kept waiting for her mother to disappear again. Then Hugannelli died, and Dantana disappeared again, running around with so many men and getting pregnant without getting a husband. Joie has some spark of feeling for her mother, because a girl can't help but love her mother, but it is so hidden behind layers and layers of hurt and betrayal and mistrust that it is hard to let it out.
Hugannelli - Joie's father raised her alone for portions of her younger life, and Joie loved him in spite of the fact that the poor man sometimes didn't know what to do with two little girls. She used to climb into his lap and look at his big, rough hands and compare them to her tiny little delicate ones, and he would laugh in his gruff way and give her a hug. He was rough around the edges, no doubt, but he had a good heart and tried hard, and she loved him for it.
Siblings
Perle - Joie's sister Perle has been the one constant in her life, for better or for worse. Through all of the being shuttled from caregiver to caregiver, Perle was always there with Joie. As a result, the girls have a close bond between them, and are extremely protective of one another. Joie loves her sister fiercely and would never tolerate anyone saying anything bad about her. But Joie also worries privately that her sister can be very mean sometimes, even to Joie herself but mostly to, well, anyone else that Perle can get to. That is worrisome, and Joie tries to reign Perle in when she can -- without turning that sharpness back on herself.
Aspalathos - Aspalathos is probably Joie's half-brother. He was born after their mother ran off to Anarinuell, back when Perle was a tiny baby and they lived in Arinzi. He is probably not Hugannelli's, and everybody knows that, but Joie's father accepted the boy as his own anyway. Joie tries not to hold his circumstances of birth against him. He's a nice boy, really, and thinks he needs to be the man ever since Hugannelli died. Joie privately thinks that's the silliest thing she ever heard, but since she's not a child anymore it's not her job to harass him and so she tries to be as supportive as possible of his ambitions towards manhood. Sometimes it comes out a little condescending, but she does try. Most importantly he is determined to be better than his dubious beginnings, as far as Joie can see, and that makes him okay in her book.
Rodarius - Rodarius is supposedly Dantana and Hugannelli's son, really truly, but he was born only a few months after they got remarried so it's a little hard to say, isn't it? Anyway, he's cute and, like Aspalathos, Hugannelli accepted him as his own so Joie doesn't question. Joie finds his curiosity at once endearing and absolutely exasperating.
Mazel - Joie is very careful with Mazel. Mazel is Joie's youngest sibling, and was taken with the rest of the children from their mother just as soon as she was born. As a result, Mazel has spent a lot of her young life not seeing Dantana at all -- which, as far as Joie is concerned, is probably better for her. Joie worries about Mazel because sometimes she seems to be very well behaved, and others she whines and pouts. Joie thinks Mazel's life hangs in the balance -- she could be good, or she could become Dantana. Joie is determined that her sister will be good, and is maybe a little harder on the child because she wants so much for her to be proper and grow up to a happy, normal, proper life. Joie loves Mazel very much, never let that be doubted, and that is why she cares so much about how her sister behaves.

Scandals is not a word that is in Joie's vocabulary. She has no public scandals to note that involve her being bad. If she did have such scandals she would be severely punished and rightfully so.
