Overview
The Junik Family -- led by Zafir Junik (Gold Dragon) Colors: white/red
Tracing their lineage back quite a ways, this family has ties to both the Gold Dragon and Griffon clans. Like all Gold Dragon nobles, they are proud and ambitious. During the Great War, most of the members of this family fled to the Caldera City with Elianos and fought in his army. They consider themselves warriors and gentlemen. They are monotheistic Zutivian and maintain a distinctly anti-feminist bent as a result. As a reward for their good service during the war, Elianos partitioned off excellent farmland for them outside the city and they are perhaps one of the most involved families in the actual business of farming.
For many years. Azarus Junik was head of the family, which consisted of his brothers Covis(d) and Guvell. Guvell was married to Idra and they have four children, Senika, Amanaki, Archigan and Zirek. Senika married Clan Leader Belik Istabelik and gave birth to Amenik and Selia as well as adopted other children. Azarus himself has three children: Yosef, Olena(d), and Maya, although he left them when they were very young, and didn't see them again for a great many years. Covis, who lost his wife in the Shamibelian invasion, never remarried nor had any children.
Zafir's Joining the Family
Then in February 18 A.U., lightning struck the Junik mansion and set off an ugly fire which burned the building to the ground. There were no deaths, but as the once proud mansion lay in smoldering ruins, a shaft of light from the sky cast upon Azarus, as if in laying blame on him. Clan Leader Judano accepted the interpretation of the High Priest of Zutiv that the lightning and subsequent fire were Zutiv's way of punishing Azarus, who was accused of having lied under an oath to Zutiv by stating that he had in no way sullied the honor of Judano's niece, Arcadia. The clan leader decided he had to act quickly before any further harm was brought upon the Junik family. He did this by stripping Azarus of his status as head of the family and taking away his rights to any lands privately owned by him or in the name of the Juniks. Then he chose a man named Zafir (44), a former commoner whose redeeming qualities and actions as a guard of the Republic army had recently earned him a noble status, to be the new Head of the Juniks in spite of the fact that Zafir has no blood ties to them whatsoever. Shortly afterwards he married Galadra, one of Queen Sabine's ladies-in-waiting, who kept her membership in the Griffon clan until Clan Leader Luna Corinala bid her to join Zafir's clan.
Judano also decreed that no one of the Clan of the Gold Dragon was to give or sell any land which would enable Azarus to regain his noble standing. Only when Judano was satisfied that Azarus was repentant in ways of honor and integrity would he reassign Azarus' former deeds back to him.
All of this was complicated by Judano's untimely and death at the hands of the Shamibelians during a valiant rescue of a kidnapped Princess Inaya. After a lengthy debate, the Clan Council declared the next ruler of the Gold Dragon Clan to be Jalil, Judano's illegitimate son by Tazi of the Griffon Clan. This did not sit well with many Gold Dragons, including Azarus, who tried to make his way to Istagadin to join Prince Solgarik and his attempts to rise up against Jalil in a civil war. Unfortunately, he was knocked from his griffon by Jalil's pursuing guards and broke his back in the fall. The newly coronated Clan Leader gave Azarus a chance to save his own life by swearing an oath of loyalty to him and when he refused, ordered the Junik man executed by hanging. Covis himself, tragically, died shortly thereafter at the hands of a fellow prisoner in the Republic Jail, where he was being held on charges of treason against the Queen.
The Ill-Fated Junik Mansion
During the spring of 24 A.U., during an uprising between the Gold Dragon and the Bear Clans, Shamibelians attacked Anarinuell. Lord Zafir's children, Aristan and Adelina, died in the air raids when griffons attacked the Junik Mansion. That same year, Lady Olena was also killed, executed for treason; accused of sharing her husband's, Lord Argus, crimes against the Republic. Recently, Lord Zafir and Lady Galadra had a son, Cortik, who is now the family heir.
The strife in the Junik family did not stop there though. Nearly ten years after the first air raids, another occurred in 33 A.U. The Junik Mansion was hit first in the kitchen, killing Lord Archigan Junik instantly. In the days to follow, the library of the Mansion would be hauntingly hit again, as it was a decade ago, and claimed the life of two more of Galadra and Zafir's children - little Galia Junik and their ward, Olecia Junik. The rest of the children were all critically hurt and remain affected physically or mentally to this day.
Two years following the incident, Lord Guvell Junik made an attempt to poison the Junik household. Subsequently, he was sentenced by Lord Proxy Zafir to serve at the front for fifteen years, one year for every life he put in danger, and was divorced from Lady Idra Junik forcefully after many offenses against her and her mental state.
Lady Galadra joined the Gold Dragon Clan after her daughter, Lady Lucia, killed a Griffon noble by the name of Cletus Sennet. Both she and Lucia were given to the Gold Dragons by Her Honor Luna in great amounts of shame and scandal. Galadra struggles to fit in with Gold Dragon expectations. The Junik mansion continues to suffer Shamibelian attacks to this day.
