Overview

Kelarik was born in Luragadin, and arrived in Anarinuell as a child immediately following the ice storms of 37 A.U. After living in the forest for a time, he was adopted into the Cylisti family. Following his Ceremony of Souls, Kelarik enlisted in the First Division, where his adoptive father Lucian was High General (although Lucian retired in 41 A.U.), and his primary jobs (other than locksmithing, carpentry, and bowyery) are currently soldier (as part of the Fighting Fifth) and priest.

Ranks & Offices

Kelarik Cylisti held the rank of Centurion in both clan and Republic military forces, acting in a guard capacity for each. In 41 A.U., he transferred to the Second Division, and with that transfer came a demotion to Sentry. The early part of 42 A.U. saw him transfer to the Fifth Division, and during the war season of 42 A.U., he was once again promoted to Centurion. In early 43 AU, he was promoted once more, this time to Captain. In addition, he is also a priest at the Temple of Firanos, and very devout.

Family Life

Living above the shop which his father owns (Champion Constructions) with his wife, his siblings, and his sister-in-law, Kelarik's family life appears to be fairly mild. The family is close-knit, although neither Lucian nor Yashila live in the same location as the rest of the family.

Siblings

Yacen is Kelarik's brother, married to Phillida. In addition, Kelarik has two more brothers - Ashian and Sedec - and two sisters, Eliva and Sala (although Sala died of the child pox).

Marriage

Quite happily married, Kelarik is very much in love with his wife Petula... and it shows. He may not quite /understand/ Petula all the time, but he's definitely committed to her.

Children

Katia: Born on Petula's birthday (January 4th) in 40 A.U., Kelarik's firstborn daughter has his eyes, and he finds immense fascination in the tiny little girl.

Damen: Originally known as 'Durnim', this child was adopted in 40 A.U. after his caretakers were horribly negligent with him. Damen is one day older than Katia.

Alerik: Kelarik's second blood-child, Alerik was born on November 2nd in 40 A.U., and is a noisy little cuss. But cute... horribly, horribly cute.

Teagan: Born July 10th, 42 A.U., just scant days before Kelarik left for the warfront, Teagan is his new pride and joy. This quiet little child has flaming red hair, which Kelarik viewed as a sign of his need to go to the front and fight for his family's safety.

Accomplishments

While most would not consider it an accomplishment, Kelarik as a child took great enjoyment out of dropping ferrets down the front of the tunics of other children. He has not continued this trend as an adult... much.

After the fallout of a raid, and a griffon landing in and destroying the Junik Mansion (for the umpteenth time), Kelarik risked life and limb to save someone who had fallen through the wrecked staircase of the mansion.

During the lion attacks, Kelarik fought valiantly to help keep the streets cleared of the dangerous, wild animals. Like many, he ended up scarred due to it, but also like many, he was recognized for his valor in risking his life to protect others.

During the first major battle of 42 A.U. at Judano's Climb, Kelarik fought to not only kill goats, but to protect fallen soldiers on the battlefield so that they could be tended by the healers. For this, he was promoted to Centurion, and as with all other soldiers involved in the battle, he was given the Republic Battle Award.

For assaulting Fort Zayes and reclaiming it in 42 A.U., Kelarik (and all other soldiers who successfully made it across the planks and onto the walls) received the Fortification Medal.

For his service not only on the battlefield, but in the effort to supply and aid the healing division, Kelarik was awarded the Kendra Coyote Silver Medal of Service - named after one of the Fifth Division members who fell in the same season.

For his assault on the east gate of Ellish, Kelarik was awarded the Burning Gates Gold Medal.

Enemies

There are few people who Kelarik could possibly view as enemies, and those who might be are not publicly known.

Allies

Kelarik is often seen in the company of his former sponsor, Lord Captain Mahir Iberik, as well as the Lord Captain's wife (and his also-former sponsor) Lady Zenia. In addition, he is often found speaking with Mother Karana of the Temple of Firanos, or her daughter, Veliana. Other friends seen with him on occasion include Priestess Kodiachi Iyandin and her husband Centurion Jericho, Sentry Riven Istanar, Mer Anarios Apellon, his locksmithing apprentice Sren, Mes Serina Jaffus and her brother, Tyrin, and occasionally (and usually with odd results) Alastor Coyote. He may also be found around random members of the Fifth Division, including his sponsor, Lady Endeera Shadina.

Scandals

There's rumor of Kelarik somehow having been involved with the girls of the Gentleman's Club, who were arrested en-masse in the early months of 40 A.U. and sent to the Dove.

Whispers of an incident in the supply tent of a battle camp have emerged, something about Kelarik loudly reading a scroll from a whore to a soldier in the tent... in front of Clan Leader Fidelia Ista Aldrik. Whether this is true or not, who's to say?

Miscellany

Habits

It's widely known that Kelarik likes to spend a lot of time hunting, especially deer or elk. He also has a tendency towards woodworking as a whole, often seen carving out the rough shape of a bow or detailing furniture. Speaking with a horrible Old City accent seems to be a bane for him, and it's a habitual problem which he has always fought against. Of late, it only seems to come out when he's particularly stressed. He has picked up a habit of writing down 'stories' that he runs across, and every so often, those stories become songs. He also has a passion for the art of staff wielding, and trains diligently. Like many of the Eagle Clan, he has a passion for gaming, particularly poker, and he also is very fond of horse racing... although from the jockey's seat.

Likes

Petula, forests, music, long walks, kids, camping, hunting, organization, whiskey, mead, staves, stories, Firanos.

Dislikes

Arguments, frustration, deliberate ignorance (people who are 'stuck on stupid' is one of Kelarik's greatest things to bemoan), his irritating accent when he's stressed, liars, thieves.

Personality

While Kelarik is typically affable, friendly and amenable to most conversation, like many Firanosians, he has a shy side. This seems to usually translate into a quiet gruffness in his demeanor. He is polite and formal, but there is no doubt that he is a commoner - the roughness still lingers around the edges, unpolished by the 'high life'. It is rare that he angers, but when he does, it is fierce... he doesn't get mad, he gets even. And chances are that if it's not a justified anger, he will be apologetic later. When focused on one of his passions, he is full of life and vigor.

Songs Written

Kelarik is known to have written a number of songs, including the following:

all in, arrrrr!, diction song, dunking song, fall festival fun, fighting fifth, firanos and werc, in praise of tea, minuet of the birds, monkeyseemonkeydo, reclaiming ellish, red, remembrance song, royal birthday, scout, spring celebration, three siblings, tooth and nail, warpins, whispering winds.

Rumor has it that he might, just might, have contributed part of the concept for a song called 'fluffy donkey'.

His favorite song is not one he wrote, nor does he sing it often. But he likes the coarse 'feck song'.

He is mentioned in the song 'breaking the gates', written about the destruction of the east gate of Ellish.

Random Useless Information

Kelarik is a firm believer in the concept 'what does not kill you makes you stronger'. This is likely the reason that the list of sentries he has been commander to has such a colorful history. Sentries Drusus and Taquil (First Division) were both dishonorably discharged from the Republic military (and Drusus from the Eagle Clan military as well). Taquil's case actually went to trial. Former sentry Teni is now a captain in the First Division, as living proof that Kelarik's view is correct. Upon his repromotion to Centurion in the Fifth, his (NPC) sentries Joeik and Kargo both suffered horrible fates in Ellish - Joeik captured, Kargo killed while destroying the gates. Sentry Hufimo had been assigned to him after an abrupt wartime transfer, and he got transferred on just as quickly to the second, not surviving the horrors of Fifth Division paperwork. And for now, he has shiny-new sentry Aysun.
