Official Statement
My name Pike Lainath Samiroon, son of Unarsen and Vaishali, and it's true that I am in love with the Governor's step-daughter and that I challenged him, as is our custom, for her hand in marriage. But if love is going to make me a suspect, I'll not be the only one. After all, everyone knows that my brother Malentez has eyes for Hralib's wife, Nobifa. Let's not be silly here. It was probably a slave who did it, and I, Lainath Samiroon, won't shed a tear for them.
Background
In some ways, Lainath is an abomination in the Shamibelian world. Due to a strange set of circumstances in which his mother, a haffie slave, was given land by her master's wife, she and her son were freed. Lainath is a quarterbreed, and far less orange skinned than the rest of the warriors. His horns are also not as prominent--something he's been teased about all his life. So he has to overcompensate. As such, Lainath is a very cruel Shamibelian--especially to slave girls, and Shamibelian women. He takes nothing but arrogant pride from the fact that even though he's a quarterbreed, he has Tabitha, one of the most eligible bachelorettes in the Empire interested in him.
Tabitha Tibenya is the most eligible Bachelorette in all Anarinuell. Not only does she have huge . . . tracts of land, but she's said to be quite lovely under that burka, and more than a few men have eyed her bared ankles at the Night of Obala's Pride. Of course Lainath Samiroon has his eye on Tabitha, and she wants to marry him, but Hralib refused to allow it because of Lainath's heritage.
Relationships
- Akiva -- One of Lainath's insolent slaves who is useful as a scribe.
- Lucas -- One of Lainath's other insolent slaves, and a former prince who invites abuse.
- Ladonna -- Lainath's best earning entertainment slave.
- Osirus -- Lainath's gladiator slave.
- Tabitha -- The girl that Lainath wants to marry.
- Malentez -- Lainath's brother.
Goals
- Lainath should try to marry Tabitha.
- Lainath should keep other Shamibelian men away from Tabitha, or they might decide to make a challenge for her.
- Lainath should break Tabitha's heart, then get her to fall back in love with him. It's for the ego.
- Lainath should find ways to humiliate his Slave Prince Lucas, and put him in his place.
- Lainath should sell Lucas--when he's with Akiva, the two of them are nothing but trouble.
- Lainath should find a way of showing his control over his slaves or be humiliated in front of his peers (make them fetch like dogs, make them act like pieces of furniture, etc.)

Lainath Round One
Round One Reveal
Lainath couldn't have killed Hralib. Lainath would have ripped Hralib apart not left him to die in the cold or used a woman's weapon like poison.
And Lainath's brother can't be guilty either. Malentez was never known for subtlety. If he wanted to kill Hralib, wouldn't he have done it with his sword? Hralib didn't seem to have any stab wounds.
Nobifa was having an affair with Malentez Samiroon. Could Hralib have found out about it, and been on the verge of killing her for the insult to his honor? Perhaps Malentez should keep better control of his women--it'd be bad if Nobifa killed her own husband to avoid disgrace.
Those Firan Princes, like Zaridos, feel guilty that they lost Anarinuell to the Shamibelians and would be eager to get revenge and redeem themselves by killing Hralib.
But if it's Shamibelians that are suspect, everyone knows Forlanis used to live on Nobifa's land, and when Hralib married her, he kicked Forlanis out. Forlanis never forgave him.
Hralib gave Lainath permission to cut down the Ticanee totem poles, when he was clearing land with which to woo Tabitha. The Ticanee slaves were all horrified, and probably wanted Hralib and Lainath dead for this offense. Why not round up and interrogate the savages?
Round One Conceal
Lainath challenged Hralib to battle several times for the hand of his step-daughter, Tabitha. Each time, Lainath was defeated, though narrowly. Lainath is a good warrior--Hralib beat him a few times, but he was young and getting better all the time. Lainath is convinced that given a few more tries, he could have defeated Hralib, fair and square.
Malentez was having an affair with Hralib's newest wife, Nobifa. Such an insult in Shamibelian culture would lead almost inexorably to a duel to the death and Malentez wasn't the kind to take risks. Hralib probably found out about him and Nobifa, so Malentez murdered him. (Lainath is a bit worried about his brother.)
Lainath was watching Hralib all night during the party, until he saw Hralib slip out with Throgana and knew it was safe to leave himself, with Tabitha.
Lainath and Tabitha did take their leave of the party after Hralib left, but it wasn't to follow him--it was to meet in private, with each other!
Lainath and Tabitha met in the catacombs for some private time at 12AM.
Rodiste was supposed to be guarding the catacombs, but when Lainath and Tabitha snuck off to be together, he was not on duty.
Lainath felt particularly humiliated in front of Hralib that he could not control his slave Akiva, and let her beg for Fidelia's life before the sacrifice. He took it out on Akiva by whipping and stocking her.
Lucas stole the keys to the stocks on the Night of Obala's Pride. Might he have freed his wife Akiva and together put a plan in motion to murder Hralib, then put her back in the stocks by morning as an alibi?
Round One Props
- Skull-of-Aldrikos Cup
- A wedding necklace he ripped off of some Firan that he killed on the battlefield (multi-colored wooden beaded)
- Weapon, Spear possibly.
Lainath Round Two
Round Two Reveal
The reason Fara was allowed to be sold into slavery without land to her name when she turned fourteen is because she attempted to seduce her mother, Pevifa's husband, Hralib. Some say that Fara blamed Hralib for her disgrace, and wanted him dead.
Ladonna wrote a wickedly satirical song about Hralib that flayed him up one side and down the other and because Ladonna makes money for Lainath by singing her little songs and performing her poems, she has permits that allow her access to almost anywhere. She could have gotten away, the Night of Obala's Pride, and killed Hralib.
Hralib used to frequent the brothel whores, especially the ones who used to be noblewomen, and treat them roughly, to humiliate them. Yvette was one of his favorites.
Whenever Hralib purchased a night with Yvette, he would make her perform her "special trick" and she would always return in tears, bitter and murderous. She hated Hralib and wished him dead.
Hralib had approached Malentez about buying Savanna because she was a high wage earner as a slave and armoror, and she could be handy for the the planned offensive to crush the rest of the Firan Republic.
Lainath know that Savanna may seem like a demure slave, but she wields a hammer with brutal efficiency--in fact, she killed a man during the invasion that way. She could have given Hralib a bump to the head that he'd never wake up from.
Emma was seen dancing with Hralib during the Night of Obala's pride until his masked wife, Pevifa angrily intervened and slapped the girl for having the insolence to dance with her husband the one night that the usual social rules for Shamibelian men and women were relaxed.
On the Night of Obala's Pride, Hralib told Lainath that Osirus had too much pride, and that he bet Throgana could beat him up. She proceeded to do just that, and Osirus swore revenge.
Osirus received a messenger in the wee hours of the morning and refused to say what it was about. Might it have been a message from a co-conspirator?
Round Two Conceal
Tazira is actually Lainath's daughter, of quarterbreed blood. Lainath raped Emeelya during a raid years ago, but Emeelya apparently never told a soul. Shamibelian men have a special fondness for daughters that are their slaves. It's the only way they can keep their daughters with them throughout life. Lainath wants to buy Tazira.
Lainath caught Lucas freeing Akiva from the stocks and tending to her wounds, but he hasn't told anyone because he doesn't want to be further humiliated in front of the other Shamibelians for not being able to adequately control his slave.
While Lainath truly wishes he had killed Hralib, he was was spitefully abusing Lucas at the time. Lainath was so angry, he promised that he is going to make Lucas into a gladiator slave and that he'll die in the ring. First, he put his eye out.
In the meantime, Akiva ran off, probably hoping that his temper would cool. But she was actually released from the stocks just past midnight on the Night of Obala's Pride--she had ample opportunity to kill Hralib by morning.
Lainath has been chopping up the totem poles for firewood, and the Ticanee slaves like are up in arms over it. One of the totem poles went mysteriously missing. Hralib uses the wood chunks he has left to torment them with, and makes a big showing of how if they aren't good slaves, he'll burn some more!
Round Two Props
- Chunk of Totem Pole
Round Two Additional Goals
- Find the missing totem pole. It's the principle of the matter. Lainath doesn't like things stolen from him.
- Stop random slaves and demand to see their permits--it keeps them in line. Also, it might divert attention from Lainath's earlier embarassments to embarass someone else.
- Make Yvette show you her trick.
Lainath Round Three
Round Three Reveal
Hralib wanted to marry Tabitha off to one of his old friends, but she got it in her head that she was of the new 'liberal' generation, and was in love with Lainath Samiroon. Hralib said that he'd let her marry Lainath "over my dead body" so it seems she gave him his wish!
Tabitha was flirting outrageously with Lainath at the Night of Obala's Pride. If Hralib had seen her, he might have sent her back to Ellish, and she hates Ellish enough to have killed him over it.
Hralib chastised Tabitha for flirting with Lainath, and demanded that she take off her slutty Firan earrings. The pair of earrings in Hralib's pocket were worn by Tabitha on the Night of Obala's Pride.
Lucas was wet and shivering when he let Akiva out of the stocks, and seems to be suffering from hypothermia even now.
Caree has shown an interest in Shamibelian fire bombs. What would a boat captain and slaver need to know about those?
Lainath can't figure out what the Firan Princes have to be so bitter about. They're the ones responsible for the Fall of Anarinuell. One of them leaked Zaridos' battleplans to the Shamibelians--so they knew well in advance how to defeat the Firans. And another one of them cut a deal to surrender the city.

Round Three Props
Round Three Additional Goals
- Make sure that if there are any rivals for Tabitha's affection, they are knocked out of the running: killed, humiliated, whatever. Tabitha belongs to Lainath.
- Also make sure no one in Tabitha's family is going to dare stand in Lainath's way now.
