SKILL: LANGUAGE

This skill enables a character to speak and understand the spoken version of a particular language and dialects similar to it. This does not include the ability to read or write the language. Ticanee is considered to be a widely different language than Firan, not a dialect of it. The Language/Ancient skill applies to a wide class of languages, rather than just one narrow band or language family. Also, Language/Ancient mastery does not imply that you speak all ancient tongues without some difficulty; old languages are hard to learn and remember.

   Firan    Ticanee    Shamibelian    Bonduin    Ancient    Vretian

In game terms, if you have this skill, you can speak the language and understand it when you hear it. The degree of skill represents how many of the words you understand. Words you don't understand will be replaced with a mixture of letters that have no meaning.

In game terms, Ancient Language allows you to try to understand any of the old tongues in the rare instances you hear them spoken, and allows you to speak, read, and write them, if with difficulty.
