Obituary

Laytania Elianik, the only daughter of Lady Leyla and Lord Dursun Firgalik, was born on March 2nd 21 AU. She is remembered as a young woman of impeccable manners and breeding, who often headed the social committee, functioned as Acting Queen, and took an active role in projects such as the School for the Arts. As a member of the Eagle Clan, she served as a capable proxy for many years.

Her marriage to Prince Zaridos Elianik was determined several years before her Ceremony of Souls had taken place. The two were joined in 36 AU, and they welcomed their first child within the year, Princess Cersei. This child would be the first of many; of eight, to be exact, born over a span of eleven years. Their relationship seemed to many to be a pairing of opposites-- the proper princess and a rogue of a prince-- but time showed their marriage to be one of warmth and committment.

When her husband Zaridos killed his cousin Argin in a duel, Laytania found herself caught in the middle of what would later be called the Kinslayer War. Rioters stormed the Eagle Mansion intent on revenge against what the considered the soulless twin Zaridos, and although they did not find him there, they did come upon the nursery. The mob took their lives, far too shortly-lived, though it is rumored that the children placed a curse on their attackers in their last moments. The only child to survive was Cersei, and only because she was not present, and she went into hiding.

Laytania was trapped in the palace, which was taken over by the angry mob, after the fall of the Republic. The Zaridos Loyalists had found Princess Katriana, the widow of Argin, and had her hanged in the Eagle district in retribution for the deaths of Zaridos' children. When the rioters heard what happened, they dragged Laytania out onto the lawn, and slit her throat in retribution. She died in 48 AU.

Laytania is survived by her daughter, Lady Cersei Firgalik. Her children Zephyr, Dasani, Adidas, Zaridon, Laiton, Zander and Marina preceded her in death while her husband passed shortly after she did.

Personality

The picture perfect image of a proper Gold Dragon woman, Laytania has only improved upon this image once becoming an adult. She adores wearing silk and fancy jewelry, now that she's able. Polite and respectful, Laytania is always aware of her station in life. She often seems withdrawn inside of herself, however, preoccupied by her own little world of music. It gives her an almost ditzy appearance at times, when she's singing or humming quietly to herself. But, those who know Laytania best know that there is much more to her than she leads one to believe. Around those she trusts, or when music is near, she shows her true colors.

Family Life

Parents

  • Father: Lord Dursun Firgalik (d)

Lord Dursun was a military hero. That's what everyone says, anyway. Laytania doesn't remember her father at all, as he died when she was very little. It seems he did really love Lady Leyla, though, because Laytania found some love letters he had written in among Leyla's things.

  • Mother: Lady (Princess?) Leyla Elianik (???)

Lady Leyla was never the most attentive or warm mother. She was proud of Laytania's achievements, but rarely seemed to have time for her daughter. Laytania began trying to play the harp because she could lose herself for hours in music and wouldn't feel as ignored by her mother. But just before Leyla was sent out of the city she began to be much more affectionate and attentive to her daughter, as if afraid she'd slip away. It makes her absence all the more painful; Laytania had only just begun to see what a mother and daughter really could be to each other. The last Laytania heard of her mother, she was in Scirlut and had married Prince Sadin. Leyla declared that Jalil had done unspeakable things to her -- shame of the highest order. Since then, both Sadin and Leyla have gone missing. Sadin is back now - but her mother isn't. This bothers Laytania. A lot.

  • Ex-"Step-Father": Prince Sadin Elianik

Laytania pretends to be happily oblivious to the fact that Prince Sadin is now her step-father. But now that he's really not her step-father after all, she is relieved.

  • Ex-Step-Father: Lord Aldrikos Ista Aldrik

Lord Aldrikos was Laytania's stepfather, married to Leyla. He's very... large. Laytania's not quite certain how else to describe him, because Aldrikos seems to live in his own reality that only occasionally intersects with everyone else's. He's often quite cheerful -- almost unnaturally so sometimes -- and can be amusing, though usually not intentionally. Aldrikos and Leyla hadn't had any children yet, which is why Clan Leader Jalil sent Leyla out of the city, but then Aldrikos came back to lead the Hydra while Leyla was far away. When Amenik took the Hydra clan medallion and became clan leader, Aldrikos was no longer regent, and Laytania expected that her stepfather will be sent from the city again. But he never was. He's actually no longer her stepfather, after Leyla divorced him during the whole Scirlut fiasco. She hasn't seen him in quite a long time, and doubts she will any time soon. Without Leyla, Aldrikos' Firgalik status was rather unnecessary and, by agreement between Fidelia and Ojitar, Aldrikos returned to the Ista Aldrik Family.

Siblings

  • Lord Captain Tyrsun Ista Aldrik

Laytania's younger brother, Tyrsun, is kind of hard for her to understand. Then again, he /is/ a boy, so this probably isn't all that surprising. He's absolutely fascinated with being a pilot like Clan Leader Jalil or being a great swordsman like Lord Zafir or a great strong axe-warrior like their stepfather Lord Aldrikos. Really, he's fascinated with anything that will let him fight Shamibelians. Laytania is convinced this is because everyone has spent years telling Tyrsun how heroic and brave their father Dursun was, and now he wants to be as strong and heroic and brave too. Unfortunately, the brave ones always die, and so Laytania is convinced that eventually her brother will go away as well. Tyrsun is being married, at Tia and Ojitar's decision, from the Firgalik family into the Ista Aldriks. It seems to have changed him, in Laytania's mind, and not in a good way.

Marriage

  • Prince General Zaridos Elianik

Laytania and Zaridos were married in the Spring of 36 A.U., shortly after her fifteenth birthday. The timing was perhaps a bit peculiar, as it took place right while things in Scirlut were escalating, but their wedding surprisingly ran quite smoothly. She had heard most horrible stories about him - that he partied, fought, and was essentially quite a rogue, but he /seems/ to have appropriately toned that behavior down somewhat now that he's had to settle down. She knows they were married for political reasons, but she found herself more and more charmed by and attracted to Zaridos as the days and years went on, despite the fact she was fairly sure the feeling wasn't mutual. Time, and providing him with more sons, seems to have changed that at least a little. After his two year stint away on a Zinnian religious trip of sorts with their oldest son, Zaridos finally returned and their marriage resumed as warmly as ever. Laytania is very pleased at how their marriage has turned out so far, even if it took a long time to feel truly comfortable and find real contentment from it.

In-Laws

  • Mother-in-Law: Clan Leader Zeysani

Laytania never really had the opportunity to meet Zeysani - she passed away before she even had her Ceremony of Souls.

  • Father-in-Law: Prince Solgarik Elianik

Again, Laytania never had the chance to meet Solgarik, as he died before she was even all that aware of his existence.

Ania is Zaridos' younger sister, and Clan Leader of the Eagles. Laytania likes her -- she's polite and intelligent, if not all that warm or friendly. She can't help but feel slightly intimidated by Ania's apparent confidence and political shrewdness. Ania named Laytania as a Clan Proxy in January 40 A.U., along with Ania's husband, Prince Rislan. Laytania is sure there were political motivations, but thinks this must be an indication of Ania's respect in Laytania's decision-making. After all, a Proxyship is a weighty responsibility, and Laytania plans to ensure Ania never feels the need to remove it due to lack of confidence. Ania and Rislan have three children, all named after her mother, Zeysani. Zeylan, Zeynasi, and Zeythri live in the Royal Eagle Mansion with their parents, and as such, don't spend much time visiting their cousins in the palace.

  • Brother-in-Law: Prince Captain Lianos Elianik

Lianos is one of the newest additions to the Elianik family, but not by marriage. He's Zaridos' twin. That fact startles Laytania every time she passes him in the hall or sees him around. It's even worse when she sees her husband and Lianos standing together. He seems a bit mysterious and distant, unlike the very boisterous and outgoing Zaridos. Though he's usually been polite and kind to her, Laytania wishes that he hadn't come at all. Twins aren't exactly the most popular topic in town, after all.

Accomplishments

  • Surviving her marriage to Prince Zaridos (Eight years and counting!)
  • Providing six heirs - four males - to the Royal Family thus far
  • Many balls, parties, charity fund raisers, and other such activities during her term as Acting Queen
  • Revitalizing the Social Committee
  • Revitalizing the Marsyas Zaridik School for the Arts

Enemies

If she has any, Laytania certainly doesn't talk about them in public!

Allies

Laytania met Lady Diamia around the time of her Ceremony of Souls. Ever since, she has looked up to the Cockatrice Proxy -- now Clan Leader -- somewhat, and found a friend in her. Both are reserved, shy, awkward around men, and distrust commoners for the most part. The whole deal. Diamia seems to pity Laytania for having had to marry her cousin, Zaridos. Their apparent rivalry amuses Laytania a little, but she does try to keep mentioning Zaridos' name around Diamia -- and vice versa -- to a minimum.

Lady Yvette Didoron and Laytania get along very well! Both know all too well how important propriety is, and together they have worked on the Social Committee. They also both love tiaras. They haven't been incredibly close as of late, but Laytania knows that Yvette is someone she can turn to should she need assistance.

Though they are certainly an odd pair, Laytania is quite close with Corrina. While Laytania tends to be prim and proper, Corrina is often wild and bubbly. They're almost complete opposites, which makes it all the more odd that they are the best of friends. Corrina was once a Firgalik and now an Oshta, married to Lord Mateo. For a while, her sisters Portia and Asteria lived with Laytania at the palace for a little while -- a favor to Corrina. (Just like Corrina had lived in the Palace with Laytania, prior to her marriage!) Laytania returned them to the Firgalik estate after a short time. Although they don't get to see each other nearly as often as they used to, Laytania still views Corrina as one of her very best friends. She'll do whatever she can to make sure that their bond will never break!

Laytania and Xamori have seemed to have skipped over whatever tension that may have been there years ago when they were younger - now they work together to run the Spring and Fall Festivals every year, and seem to be of similar thoughts when running it. Both are quite fervent fans of fashion and sparkly things, so they have naturally bonded over that! Now they seem to get along quite well, and Laytania considers the Teranzik a good friend after all the things they've had to do together.

Scandals

Scandals? There are none thus far. Laytania has managed to avoid any such social catastrophes, despite her walking scandal of a husband. She's got a good head on her shoulders!

...Okay, so maybe there was one instance at Banian's birthday party where Laytania up and punched and Old City man in the face for being too crude in her presence. It had the Old City people present cheering and supporting her for Queen, so maybe it wasn't all bad!
