Description

A woman with a contemplative demeanor, Luna has piercing green eyes, wavy sandy hair and fair skin. This young woman has the appearance of a porcelain doll -- smooth-faced and utterly untouchable. A grave air rules her even features, and her eyes seem entirely too shrewd and knowing for someone her age. She has habit of standing very straight, with her chin raised and her shoulders almost perfectly square -- especially when speaking closely with someone. She has a dimpled grin and a merry giggle, but both are rare, and she always looks mildly startled -- and annoyed at herself -- when she does smile. She has a habit of staring intently at things (and people) for just a little too long, as if looking through them with a knowing intelligence.

Early History

When Luna was born, her presence alone was cause for some discomfort among nobles and commoners alike. She had piercing green eyes, and was very quiet for a baby. Many felt as though Luna was looking right through them, and into their soul! This did not deter Judanarius, her proud father, from bringing her to various social and political events, and whispering into her ear the intricacies of trial etiquette, how to properly execute a criminal of the clan, and when it is appropriate to speak during a Clan Council meeting. It's no wonder that as she grew, her contemporaries considered her 'spooky' or weird. She was ever a small child, more like an overgrown doll than a young girl, and quiet as an unlit pyre. Her playmates were the other children of clan leaders, mainly Judanus, and Ojitar, and other noble and common children that were close at hand, like Chinnon, Xamori, and Srenni. Luna, being very concerned with all things proper and useful, was often made to endure wasteful afternoons with her cousins, in which she would lecture them continually on the duties and studies they were shirking. On one such day, it was Judanus' pleasure to repay Luna for her reminders by shoving her into the fountain at the Vanquishing Stallion Inn. Some think she may still have not completely forgiven him for it.

Recent History

Luna went with the Griffon Militia to Ellish on the latest tour (see: TinyPlot: Operation Make Friends) in order to make contact with the Griffon Loyalists, Lord Evander more specifically. Though she was able to meet with the lord, it was a strained conversation, one in which Luna was put into a position to defend not only the Griffon Clan's involvement with the Republic, but also the Republic's founding principles. She was not able to convince Lord Evander through her empassioned words that the Republic exists to serve the clans, and not the other way around, but she was able to keep them from interfering with the Republic's and the Griffon clan's plans to strike at the Shamibelians still entrenched in Ellish. Her next move will be to return to Ellish as soon as possible on a diplomatic mission to once more speak with Lord Evander and perhaps even Lady Marsi, if she can be found, to continue her efforts to bring the Loyalists under Griffon clan control. In her first meeting with the lord, she was the lamb, but she fully intends to be the lion at her next meeting.

Personality & Beliefs

Luna is like a young woman in a glass case -- she seems to watch everything stream past her with nothing ever, ever touching her. Some found her a frightening child -- she had an uncanny grasp of politics, the dynamics of power, and other matters belonging to the adult world, and she never ran and played as did other children. She learned to hide her feelings very early on, believing that showing people what you feel was a weakness, and weak is the last thing Luna wanted to be. She approaches the world in a coolly pragmatic way, learning quickly the lessons of life and diplomacy from watching the errors of others. She has always been very aware of her status, and although she is capable of kindness and generosity, she approaches those she considers inferiors with a regal sort of condescension. Luna believes that it is proper to be kind to those beneath you so long as they understand their inferior status, but if they get uppity, one should ruthlessly cut them off at the knees. This kind of condescension shows in her stare. She stares a lot, as if her eyes could comprehend all things if only she looked long enough. She is ever conscious of propriety, although she has an aversion to things she considers floofy, as floofy is useless. Though Luna was never a normal girl, she had a yearning for a time, to do silly, girlish things that she hadn't before. Becoming a mother herself settled her a great deal, and she looks to her own children now to follow the example she set as a child.

Ranks & Offices

  • Clan Leader of the Griffon Clan

Family Life

Parents

  • Judanarius - Though Luna's father has been married several times over the course of Luna's life since her mother was killed, Luna has ever seen him as the parent in charge of her instruction and guidance. It's true that Judanarius has not had the most glorious of political careers, certainly nothing like what was forcast for him, but he is by far one of the most brilliant minds in Luna's acquaintance. His errors, Luna has surmised, do not stem from his mind, but from his heart. So unlucky in love that oftentimes Luna wonders if he had somehow angered Soli(he's a priest of Eesha, after all, and as rumor has it, Judanarius has never been cursed with the absence of her patronage in his life). She loves her father dearly, and so it hurts her almost as much as it must hurt him when his past deeds are thrown back in his face when he does either good or ill in the city or in the clan. She does what she can to slowly reintroduce him as a capable and worthy member of the clan through his work in the ministry and with his charitable works, but it's a very long, slow, uphill climb.
  • Eve - Luna has no memories of her mother that are her own, everything she knows about the woman who gave birth to her has been told to her, either by family, friends, and both Griffon and Eagle clan subjects. Luna finds it curious that her mother would have given up the rule of the Eagle clan simply to be with her father, Judanarius, but from her studies, she's gathered that if her grandmother, Clan Leader Tazi, had not died when she did, Eve could have possibly retained her throne, and Luna would have been born an Eagle. This thought brings no sense of longing to her, as -- though she loves her Eagle kin -- she cannot imagine leading a life spent largely in pursuit of pleasure, the mere idea is distasteful to her. Eve's death came as quite a shock to the city, as murder tends to do, but the surrounding scandal created by the woman accused of killing her mother is often what people recall with the most clarity. Brinna Sennet was tried and convicted of the murder of Eve, casting an unfortunate pall on the name Sennet for many years. Though Luna is fully aware of the details of the trial, and the woman herself, she does not associate that commoner's actions with the current Sennet family, and therefor bears no ill-will toward them.
  • Petrina (Step-Mother) - Luna was still quite young when Judanarius was married to Petrina, the thinking behind that being that the path to Judanarius' redemption was paved with Ista Aldrik stones. Luna remembers very little of the woman herself, and though what she recalls of the woman personally is not bad, what colors her memory of Petrina is how her actions led to Judanarius losing the Griffon clan Medallion, and Luna's betrothal to Judanus. Neither of those outcomes shines a very favorable light on Luna's memory of Petrina.
  • Lucretia (Step-Mother) - Lucretia is a very odd woman. On one hand capable of ruthless, cutting decisiveness, and on the other, completely --and to Luna, disturbingly floofy and ridiculous. Luna could only make sense of it by assuming that everything Lucretia did was calculated precisely, otherwise she would have to have considered the woman completely insane. She was never much liked in the clan, but when she gave birth to another heir for Judanarius, riots errupted, and Judanarius was forced to divorce her, and disown their child, Zayus.
  • Taleena (Step-Mother) - Judanarius' latest wife, and Luna's cousin and sister-in-law, Taleena is, Luna confesses, not completely unsuitable for her father. Other than the fact that she's his neice(by marriage). Which Luna strives to not think about. Taleena spends a good deal of time with her duties in the Ticanee clan, and though Luna knows the constant separation and infrequent and random closeness that she shares with Judanarius bothers him, she is somewhat glad of it. It's not that she begrudges Judanarius a content marriage, but perhaps the less time he spends with Taleena, the less chance there is of something horribly catastropic happening to end it.

Siblings

Full

  • Juneva - Luna's younger sister Juneva was always a bright ray of sunshine around Corista Estate, friendly and exuberant, she breathed life into the Corinala home in ways that Luna simply felt beneath her to attempt. Always eager to please, she put up with the majority of Luna's condescension, rebelling against her sister's aloofness only when it came to insisting that Luna do something 'for her own good'. This usually involved dirt, trees, stray dogs, and boys. No one else had as good a time at persuading Luna to do something that she was sure to regret, and no one crowed as loudly when Luna begrudgingly admitted that she had ... fun. Luna's relationship with her sister was very easy, until they grew into women. For Luna, it was an easy thing to discard the trappings and foolishness of childhood in favor of the responsibility of a young woman, but for Juneva it was not so simple. Prone still to rash decisions already, a sudden illness robbed Juneva the rest of her good judgment, and Luna was forced to send her away to Lurashar in 37 A.U. for her own protection, to study and live amongst the priestesses at the Great Temple in that city.

Half

  • Zeysani & Nydiam - Her older brother and sister, and both Clan Leaders in their own right, Luna enjoyed a sometimes distant relationship with Zeysani and Nydiam. After Eve's murder, she spent a good deal of time a the Eagle estate, but she was just a child, and remembers very little of it, beyond what she's been told of her time there. As a young woman, she would see them at Clan Council meetings, but rarely did she spend much time with them socially, likely because of their intense and continued dislike of Judanarius. Luna did not blame them for their feelings, but she did not share them, either.
  • Zayus - Luna has only ever seen Zayus once, near after the time he was born, and just before Judanarius renounced his claim on him and he was sent off to live with the Firgaliks. She only knows that he is acting as a judge in the Gold Dragon clan now because Lord Cortik Junik sent her a messenger recently asking for her opinion on the young lord, and whether or not she believed he would make a good judge. Having no experience of the young man he'd become, and not even knowing him by sight, her response was not very enlightening. She has no desire to get to know her brother, as she sees no benefit in developing a relationship with him.
  • Danazir, Vahla & Melisende - These are the children that Judanarius has had with Luna's cousin, sister-in-law, and now step-mother, Taleena. Luna sees them hardly at all, though with the birth of Vahla, Danazir is now technically a Corinala. As such, he should be raised alongside her own sons, but she has not made an issue of it, as Taleena is family, and Taria, Luna's mother-in-law, is trusted to see to his proper education.
  • Melisende
  • Baby Corinala-Oshta

Marriage

  • Judanus - At the apex of the Alliance War, Luna's father lost the clan medallion for the second time in his career, but not owing to any decision he made himself. It was Lady Petrina, acting on his behalf, who chose neutrality in the war -- a serious mistake, which cost Judanarius his leadership. In the aftermath of that decision, the Gold Dragon clan took control of the Griffon Clan, and an arrangement was made by the members of the Alliance that Luna should marry Judanus, Jalil's son and Luna's cousin, so that a semblance of balance might be achieved for both clans. This theme of balance would rule the couple as children, and continue on into their marriage -- at least for a few years. After their first child was born, and no decision was yet made on who would be taking up the medallion and ruling the clan, Luna and Judanus' relationship began to be more strained. Balance was difficult to maintain, especially as the Clan Council began hint at the fact that Luna and Judanus would be competing for the medallion, a notion that Luna felt distasteful and dishonorable. But even once Luna was named Clan Leader of the Griffon Clan, her relationship to her husband was still a difficult one, with moments of reconcilliation few and far between, one of which led to the birth of their second son, Arafax. When she was struck ill and sent to Caldera City to recover, many whispered that Judanus kept so close to her bedside so that he might take up the medallion once she drew her last breath.

Children

  • Aristedes - Aristedes Corinala is Luna and Judanus' first born, and potential heir to the Griffon Throne. Just as Luna was, Aristedes has been carefully and thoroughly instructed in all matters of history, economics, politics, and combat, to better prepare him for the role he may undertake one day. But even with these expectations set upon him, Luna is glad to see that he still has the heart and spirit of a child, so unlike herself at his age.
  • Arafax - Still too young to be much more than an amusement for Luna, Arafax reminds her quite a bit of her sister, Juneva. He certainly seems to be quite a bit more emotional than Luna herself ever is or was.
  • Dasheva - Luna's first daughter, it's difficult for her not to dote on the tiny, perfect little girl. Though she's a cheerful child, Luna does not yet hold that against her.

Frenemies

  • Ojitar Firgalik - For as long as Luna can remember, she, Judanus, and Ojitar were close friends even though Luna was betrothed to Judanus, and they were all fairly sure that Ojitar would succeed Jalil as Clan Leader of the Gold Dragon clan. Luna had an especially close friendship with Ojitar, as she could talk with him about things that she just couldn't with Judanus. Of course once he became Clan Leader of the Gold Dragons, their relationship became publicly more polite and slightly strained, but in private, Ojitar is still family to Luna, though she does not confide in him as much as she used to.
  • Lucia - Lucia grew up in the Griffon Clan due to the marriage agreement made by Sabine for Zafir and Galadra Junik, whereby all of the female children would become Griffons and the males Gold Dragons. She was a close friend of Luna's during their youth, and Luna was pleased at the fact that Lucia, as a Junik, might possibly be the head of her own noble Griffon house once she had her Ceremony of Souls. Unfortunately, in (Get Date), the troubles involving Juneva soon involved Lucia when she was (so she says) attacked by Lord Cletus Sennet and killed him. The fallout surrounding that incident led to Lucia and Galadra both being forced out of the Griffon clan, and any friendship that existed between Luna and Lucia was summarily ended.
  • Evander Sennet -
